H-SC up 30 -6 over Huntington with 9 minutes to go in first half.  Eleven players have been in for H-SC so far - very even scoring.  Everyone should get time today.

#19 CNU Captains defeat Bridgewater 97-74. BC got it down to 7 before a CNU run.

Guilford over Birmingham-Southern 88-85 at Maryville (TN).  All five Quaker starters in double figures led by Josh Pittman's 22.  Twelve treys for GC and over 50% from the floor overall (32/62).

Guilford improves to 9-2 and B-SC falls to 6-3.  The Quakers travel to Fayetteville for a 5 pm game with Methodist on January 2.

Tigers win, 99-54, playing 12 guys for 12-17 minutes each.  The other 3 Tigers played 8-9 minutes each.  No team has as overwhelmingly defeated Huntingdon as the Tigers did tonight.  No doubt that the Tigers continue to lead the country in scoring margin.  They're now 10-1, and will likely be 11-1 after tomorrow's game against Johns Hopkins.  Toughest opponent to date will be next Saturday when they travel to Guilford!

In the other game at Fleet Gymnasium, Randolph (10-0) stomped on Johns Hopkins, 70-48, and remained undefeated, with Colton Hunt scoring 25.  No other team has beaten Hopkins by as large a margin as Randolph did tonight.

With the win by Guilford (9-2) over Birmingham Southern (6-3) and by RMC (5-5) over Washington College (0-10) by a large margin, it was another good day for the top half of the ODAC.

With the schedule RMC has played to date, I fear they have been battle tested more so than any other ODAC team and will be ready to kick butt come January. I've not seen one game this year so I have no idea what I'm talking about, other than it seems everytime I pick up the paper RMC has played another quality team and not so with other ODAC programs. To my knowledge HSC has played two decent teams and lost to one of them; basically has run everybody else out of the gym minus the Wesley game. VWC is playing a tough out of conference schedule and will also be ready for the ODAC run. Should be another fun season in the ODAC. I see five teams having an opportunity to win the tourney. Good luck to all !!!

As you've stated, RMC is easily the most battle-tested team in the ODAC!  They have a solid chance to beat any team they play, despite their 5-5 record.

I see the ODAC teams dividing into 5 groups, with very blurred divisions:

Hampden-Sydney   3-0   10-1
Virginia Wesleyan   3-0   7-2
-------------------
Randolph   3-0   10-0
Guilford   2-1   9-2
Randolph-Macon    2-1   5-5
-------------------
Eastern Mennonite   1-2   8-4
Lynchburg   0-2   8-2
-------------------
Bridgewater    1-1   7-4
Washington and Lee   1-1   5-4
Roanoke   0-3   6-4
-------------------
Emory and Henry   0-2   2-5
Shenandoah   0-3   3-8

It's still very early, and time will tell where things go this season.  Next Saturday, we have HSC @ Guilford and RMC at Randolph!

Happy New Year!  Looks like VWC had a tough weekend in Atlanta while R-MC romped through the tourney in Crenshaw.  H-SC, Guilford & Randolph all winning big in late December.  We heard today that R-MC's opponents up until this tourney were 66-8 overall, so it's been a tough season for us but the Jackets seem to be learning how to win.  We were missing a couple of key players this weekend, but the 2 freshmen stepped in playing well & the bench overall is a deep one.  Big tests ahead for January, starting with Sat. at Randolph.

Wishing everyone a safe & happy holiday weekend & lots more great ODAC basketball.

GO JACKETS!!!

See bold above. I'm assuming you mean Joe Hassell and Chris Hamilton were the missing key players. But what's up with Hunter Fromang that he's not getting any minutes late in these games where the outcome has been determined?

Harrison George scores 21 on 10-14 shooting, to go with 5 rebounds, 4 assists, and 5 steals, as the Tigers (11-1) defeat Johns Hopkins (5-5) by 15.

5'9" Mike Murray, freshman point guard, scored 10 points on 3 of 5 shooting, to go with 3 rebounds, 6 assists, and 2 steals.  This guy has been starting for a half-dozen games now, and looks better as a freshman than anyone since Harrison was a freshman.

Now the Tigers will play the rougher part of their schedule, as they play nothing but ODAC for the rest of the regular season, including 2 games vs. RMC, Guilford, Lynchburg, and W&L.  Next game is at Guilford!  Then at Lynchburg on the 9th.

See bold above. I just ran the numbers. As of games through yesterday, but not including the two teams who played in the weekend tournament in Ashland, the Jackets' non-conference opponents are a combined 50-14 with only Ferrum at 5-5 having a non-winning record. The three conference opponents so far (Lynchburg, Guilford, EMU) are a combined 26-8. So overall the Jackets' opponents (again not including the two in the weekend tournament) are 76-22. The 4 non-conference teams the Jackets lost to are a combined 36-6.

Looking at the ODAC teams, only Shenandoah and Emory & Henry have losing records. Should be an exciting rest of the season as conference play gets into full swing.

^^^ Yes we did mean Hassell & Hamilton.  Hunter Fromang had surgery over the summer & has just started to practice again.  He hasn't dressed out for a game yet this season, but we sure hope to see him back in action SOON.

Thanks for the correction on the numbers we cited.  We must have heard it wrong... that happens a lot at a basketball game.

GO JACKETS!!!

Don't know if anyone has seen yet, but Hampden Sydney's Khobi Williamson was the #3 play on Sportscenter today

Thanks Dewayne,
I saw it in person and a friend of mine said it was on SC.  Khobi had at least two other dunks in that game, but the block and hustle are what made that play so impressive!

Guilford put a big hurt on Methodist today in Fayetteville, 84-61.  Four Quakers scored in double figures led by guard Matt McCarthey's 21.  Freshman center Zeb Richardson added 17 and, I believe a career-high, 15 rebounds.  The boxscore looks as though GCQ controlled most aspects of the game, including 10 of 21 behind the arc and 20 of 23 FTs.

Guilford improves to 10-2 with their 5th straight win and Methodist falls to 3-7.

Hampden-Sydney comes to Ragan-Brown on Saturday afternoon- can't wait.  Go Quakers!
