^^ We WILL see Saturday & hope to be in that crowd, but it won't be at night... the game is set for 3 pm.  What time is the Marlins' game?  Hopefully the long trip isn't going to slow them down AT ALL.

You're right 1982: R-MC fans don't talk a lot of smack on this board-- or anywhere.  We let the team do the talking & we're pretty sure they'll be ready for the next game.

And only because it's been mentioned a few times that R-MC beat VWC in Salem but with Woodmore on the sidelines, the Jackets also had a starter on the sidelines that night - Dylan Cole.  While he doesn't score at the level of Woodmore, if you look at his defensive stats he's certainly a factor.  We're hoping his ankle sprain won't keep him out of the game this Saturday.  His size could really come in handy this weekend.

As has been said we should all be proud of our conference and especially our players.  As a group, they have earned a lot of respect around the nation this year.  Let's keep that going ODAC teams!

GO MARLINS!!!    GO JACKETS!!!!

Quote from: Maroons07 on March 09, 2013, 11:44:53 PMThe only thing pulling down the Tigers is the fact that their two biggest rivals are at the very least going to be hanging Sweet 16 banners in their gyms, while the Tigers have not played on Sunday of the ODAC Tournament since 2007.

1-3 vs. Hampden-Sydney in ODAC Championship games all time. 5-23 vs. Hampden-Sydney since 2002. Got beat down in the 2007 ODAC title game by Hampden-Sydney when Mike Edwards had more points at halftime than the entire Roanoke team. Haven't won an ODAC title since 2000. Haven't even had so much as a .500 season since 2009. ODAC record the past four years - 3-13, 7-9, 3-13, 4-12. And your Maroons only got that 4th win this year because Bridgewater used an ineligible player. 17 ODAC wins in the past four years is second worst in the ODAC.

Come on 1982!!!!!! You ruined my smack down time I had planned for tonight. The jackets will have their say, come Saturday!

Unless Billy Old is suiting up for RMC, the Jackets don't stand a chance against Amherst.

What team in the entire country has played a schedule as tough as the Yellow Jackets?  13 of their 30 games have been against NCAA Tournament participants!

Record vs NCAA Tournament participants: 6-7

11/15    Loss at #27 Christopher Newport
11/17    Loss vs. #38 Transylvania (neutral court)
11/18    Loss at #11 St. Mary's
12/17    Loss at #9 Catholic
1/5    Loss at Randolph
1/16    Loss at #16 Hampden-Sydney
1/30    Win at #25 Virginia Wesleyan
2/6    Loss vs. #16 Hampden-Sydney
2/16    Win vs. Randolph
2/23    Win vs #16 Hampden-Sydney @ Salem Civic Center
2/24    Win vs #25 Virginia Wesleyan @ Salem Civic Center
3/2    Win at #39 Stevens @ Lehman College, Bronx, NY
3/9    Win at #4 WPI

Record vs NCAA Tournament participants since 1/30:  6-1, with wins over #4 WPI, #16 HSC, and twice over #25 VWC.

Amherst's Record vs NCAA Tournament participants: 7-1

11/30    vs. Elms @ Westfield State    W, 79-63
12/1    vs Springfield @ Westfield State   L, 70-64
1/23    vs. #8 Williams    W, 83-67
1/29    at #13 Rhode Island College     W, 74-65
2/10    at #8 Williams     W, 65-48
2/12    at #7 Middlebury     W, 104-101
2/24    vs. #8 Williams     W, 74-73
3/9       vs. Plattsburgh State    W, 89-72

An impressive record, for sure, but a few things worth noting:

(1) Amherst has not played as many games against NCAA Tournament teams,
(2) They definitely have Williams' number, and I wonder whether Williams isn't overrated,
(3) The nonconference schedules for NESCAC teams is generally no more impressive than Hampden-Sydney's was this year.
(4) The 11-team NESCAC has 3 excellent teams in the tournament and 2 others that were decent (Tufts, Bowdoin).  Nevertheless, from top-to-bottom, I don't think that the NESCAC measures up to the ODAC, which had 5 "tournament-quality teams" (including Guilford, which .. understandably .. did not qualify), plus 3 other teams that had winning records and were capable of upsets (Lynchburg, W&L, and EMU).

Jackets don't need anymore stuff. They will show up on Saturday.

I am, indeed, a Middlebury fan...with a long ODAC history.

RMC82: Drop the name Billy Old to Coach Nathan. I guarantee a laugh at what I wrote.

Thanks, lefrakenstein!.  That 2007 mistake was a particularly huge one, since it was Amherst that beat Virginia Wesleyan in the national championship game.

I guess since Bucket made it clear I should too.  I'm not a Amherst fan, I'm a Williams fan.  For the record the 2 people that said Amherst would win are not Amherst fans.  The actual Amherst fan just posted an overview of the team and said he expected a close game.

So while I've been enjoying all the comments about bulletin-board material, I'm not sure it counts as bulletin-board material when it's coming from two people that don't care for Amherst.  We are just letting you know what you can expect because we've played them 4 times this year and watched them many more times on top of that.

As for the Williams game, it's going to be a toss up because it's two completely different types of teams.  I think it's going to come down to who can control the tempo of the game.  If they start running then Williams will be in trouble.  If Williams can slow the pace and make it a half-court execution battle then it goes in their favor.  Williams does like to get out in transition so it's going to be tough for them to control that urge I think.

middhoops

Another non-Amherst fan here.  All hype aside, the Lord Jeffs really are that good.  They have a couple of D1 level athletes, a great point guard, an enormous and effective center and they play extraordinarily well together.
What they lack is quality depth.  If you hope to beat them; go at them very hard, very physical and don't let up.  If you get Kaasila, Toomey, Workman and Williamson in foul trouble, it's a whole different game.  Otherwise, they can kill you a hundred different ways.  Stopping Toomey is key.  No one has beat them since Dec. 6 and they just keep getting better.
Your chances of leaving Massachusetts with a win are much better for the Marlins.

Bucket...

I have not posted in years on here, but follow discussions on a regular basis.  I busted out laughing at your Billy Old comment!  Ole' Bill Old is a great guy and would be laughing his tail off as well!
