Guilford's off to a 2-0 start after topping Lagrange Friday night, 90-81, and William Peace last night, 72-53.  Lots of freshmen in line-up.  Guilford lost to DI Coastal Carolina 76-49 last Monday in an exhibition game, so everyone but the News & Record knows that doesn't count in their record.  The Quakers face Greensboro Tuesday night at the Coliseum and then Averett at home on Wednesday.

Roanoke loses to Goucher today 91-82, actually got to see the game today.  Roanoke has good offensive ability and looked pretty good pushing the ball. With that being said man we stink on the defensive end. Goucher guys were driving to the middle with ease and there was about 0 to none help defense.  Goucher was much better then recent memory serves me though but if we play this defense against Macon, HSC or Va Wes things will be ugly.

Well here we go. The Marlins tip-off tonight on the road at Salisbury University. The Marlins have lost the last 2 years to Salisbury so this should be a good test for a pretty young Marlins squad. I'm interested in seeing how the freshmen play tonight along with Woodmore. I watched 2 of the Marlins scrimmages and they were starting a freshmen at the shooting guard position. I think it was the moore kid who was an all state performer in AAA Virginia last year. I think this years team is capable of being pretty good just have to see how fast they can gel. They will need Woodmore to carry them thru the games where the Freshmen play like freshmen. Also Remember the name Poe. Hes a freshmen for VWC who i had the pleasure of watching in HS. He really reminds me of Donald Vaughn who the Marlins had a few years back. Go Marlins!!!

"Visiting" Guilford over Greensboro tonight, 77-65, at the Greensboro Coliseum.  Quakers were led by Matt McCarthy's 23 and move to 3-0 while the Pride drop to 2-1.  The Averett Cougars visit Ragan-Brown tomorrow night (11/20).

The Jackets lost by 1 at home against a very efficient CNU team.  CNU's long shooters (54.5%) got open a lot & made the most of it.

For the home team, they were in foul trouble EARLY in both 1st and 2nd half play & their low percentage shooting (<45%) & missed FT's (<73%) were big factors in the loss.

Hope they can regroup and get ready for the next one.

Congrats to yesterday's winners.

GO JACKETS!!!!

Congratulations to Guilford HC Tom Palombo ... Tuesday's win over Greensboro was his 300th overall Head Coaching victory in Men's basketball and his 200th at Guilford.  He was 100-63 (.613) at Defiance and is currently 200-84 (.704) at Guilford in ten full seasons plus this year's 3 games.

Feels like a repeat of last year. RMC starting slowly playing a very competitive OOC.

Guilford moves to 4-0 (all versus the USASAC) in a 94-91 win at home over Averett.  The Quakers were led by freshmen (and HS teammates) Spainhour and Furr, who both had 20 points.  GC had a 15-point second half lead, but let the scrappy Cougars make it a game.  Maybe they had tired legs after back-to-back games.  W&L comes to town Saturday afternoon to open ODAC play.

Yes, eerily similar to last year. Last year's early season losses were by 7, 2, and 10 points -- all away from Crenshaw.

H-SC finally wins a close one 66-65 over Mary Washington on Greg Lewis' 3 pointer at the buzz.  Down most of the game - out of time outs - made a 3 pointer to be behind by 2 - stopped MW from getting ball in on 5 second  rule - finally had 2.8 seconds to get ball in and shot and they did it!!  Has to be real morale booster. MW played hard and can they make the 3 pointers.

Greg Lewis!

After he hit two 3-pointers within the last 7 seconds of play ... turning a 5-point HSC deficit into a 1-point win over Mary Washington, Greg was picked up and carried across Fleet Gym by 50-100 exuberant Hampden-Sydney guys who rushed the court like a tornado.  It was crazy!

Amazing end to a game that we thought was over.

My son tells me that the end of the HSC game, with Greg Lewis's beautiful 25-foot 3-pointer, is #2 on this morning's ESPN Top Ten.   :)
