Marlins win their 3rd game of the week..Off to a good start but room for improvement with such a young squad.  They seem to be a very determined group despite some Freshman mistakes.  As usual fast and athletic but so early in the season to judge how they will fare.  Good luck to all in the ODAC this week and the coming New Year.

Noke beat Greensboro last night 87-72, Greensboro was without their leading scorer

Thanks, 2RMCFans.  Happy Thanksgiving to all as well.

Final/OT Guilford 73, RMC 71 at Guilford

Hard fought, entertaining game ... tense throughout .... no team ever led by more than eight.  RMC up 31-30 at the half.  Matt McCarthy hit a floater on the right side of the lane with 0.7 sec to go for the win.

In my opinion, two things cost the Yellow Jackets this game:

1. RMC was 13-21 from the line, while GC was 26-29
2. Marcus Badger was 0-10 from the field

Looked to me as though the Jackets were more athletic, but shooting is their Achilles Heel.

Guilford improves to 6-0, 2-0 while RMC drops to 1-3, 0-1

This is a really great observation. I have seen a lot of very graceful, athletic basketball players and teams that underperform in relation to how you think they will. Not trying to knock the Jackets, my alma mater, however. They have lost 3 games by a total of 5 points, all to very good teams and I'm sure will have had a good season when when it's over. But it's often easy to assume that the kind of athleticism I think you are referring to automatically translates into the skills that leads to winning lots of games. But that is not necessarily so in my opinion.

Wesley is a top-quality team that will certainly be among the Top 25 when the next poll comes out.  They were an NCAA tournament participant last year and are now 4-0, with the wins coming against some very good teams.  They were 19 for 22 from the free throw line, which made the difference in a game that was as close as 2 points with 56 seconds to play.  Their center, David Langan, is a tremendous player:  http://www.d3hoops.com/awards/tow/2013-14/week1 ...

Not a bad game for the Tigers, but Khobi didn't have his best game, the Tigers were outrebounded, and they just needed a really great game to beat Wesley, a team that is among the best in the CAC (along with St. Mary's and CNU).

Tigers win a big one against Springfield College today, winning the game by 7 points in OT and handing Springfield their 1st loss of the season.  Mitch Owens had 20 points and nine rebounds and has been having a great season.  Khobi Williamson also had 20 points and nine rebounds, and Greg Lewis posted 16 points, going 4 of 8 from behind the arc, while also coming down with 8 rebounds.  The win will keep the Tigers in the Top 25, although I'm sure they'll drop somewhat from their current #8 spot.

The Tigers should have an easier time tomorrow against Carnegie Mellon, a team whose record over the past 4 years is 27 wins and 72 losses.

Roanoke lost to Washington and Lee last night in OT 87-84, a W and L player knocked down a shot just inside of half court to win it as time expired  :'(

Looks like a Tiger loss today, with less than a minute to play.  Carnegie Mellon with a big non-conference win, and the Tigers lose their second game in the last three!  Way too many turnovers, and they weren't hitting much today (33%, compared to CMU's 53%), especially from behind the arc (3 of 22), so their outrebounding CMU 44-29 and hitting 88% of their free throws just wasn't enough.  Khobi led the team with 16 points and 9 rebounds today.

The Tigers will hopefully get wins over Bridgewater on the 7th and Randolph on the 11th before going into the Christmas break.

HSCDad

Unusual game for H-SC - lost by 6  68-62  Murray had fair game but other guards did not show up - big men did ok as it appeared strategy was to get inside - at least 4, maybe 5, times that H-SC just handed the ball to other team band CMU had three or four fast breaks with no H-SC players down court.  H-SC led  by 12 with about 7-8 minutes to go and just saw it disappear - long trip home - just appeared tired

Actually, HSCDad, the Tigers' biggest lead of the second half was just 8 points, with 10:34 to go.  Their lead was down to 4 points with 7 minutes to go, and CMU took the lead for good with 6:15 to go in the game.

Carnegie Mellon had a 20-5 run between 10:34 and 3:46, going from 8 points down to 7 points in front of the Tigers.  What an extreme turnaround for less than 7 minutes of play!
