I thought Vassor just finished his freshman year. What happened ?

He's transferring to ODU.  My understanding is that he's decided he wants to major in engineering, and he can't do that at HSC.

Yes, he's a very bright young man and has had an interest in engineering.  So, moving to ODU doesn't surprise me.  Also, of interest, his former high school coach, Bryant Stith, is now at ODU and his former teammate, Brandon Stith (transferring from ECU to ODU).  Would Steven try to play at ODU?

D1 transfer, will be announced soon.

You've been around the ODAC for a while. How many 'D-1 transfers' have been impact players in the ODAC?

Mason Woolridge was a really good player for Lynchburg... his team was just terrible

You're right - he had a very nice sophomore year and a good junior year. Where'd he turn up for his senior year?

Since I was still at Lynchburg when he was there, this is what I know of the situation. He graduated after his second year at Lynchburg. He played one year at Marshall, stayed there but didn't play for a year, then came to Lynchburg and finished out his undergraduate degree, which he got in four total years. There was talk of him playing his final year while he attended graduate school, but at that point he was pretty much burnt out on the game and wanted to move on with his life.

I remember Bridgewater getting a big man D1 transfer back in the mid 2000s, Josh Fox. His senior year was a letdown, but his sophomore and junior years were solid. I also think Matt Green came to H-SC from a D1 school and he had a good career.

The D1 transfer that HSC is getting is Jake Duncan. Was at NJIT this past season and played HS ball at Williamsburg Christian Academy. VWC also has a D1 transfer coming in but I will keep his name under wraps until it is officially announced or someone on here comes forward. They do have some other freshmen coming in that have a chance to be immediate impact. Think the biggest name is Nick Douglas from Christchurch. he is a 6'2 guard who had a lot of Mid-Major D1 interest in the likes of VCU, ODU and george Mason but chose the Marlins over some smaller offers. Should be another great year of ODAC basketball coming up.

Sounds like the Marlins are going to be loaded again. No big surprise.

Yes NJIT is D-1 by strict definition. On a neutral court, if NJIT was playing HSC, I'd be inclined to give NJIT points & odds if they were meeting Farmville. ;D

That being said I hope the young man prospers at a fine basketball school.

I saw NJIT on TV a couple of times. HSC would not beat them but a fun to think about D3 beating D1.

NJIT did have eight Division I wins this year and had several more losses by single digits to D1 teams. So it's not like they are the Patrick Henry College of D1 (for contextual reference, please see http://hscathletics.com/sports/mbkb/2011-12/releases/20120207l0j9fw)

On another note, Jake Duncan was the leading scorer in their game vs. Deleware State with 19 (including the three-pointer to send the game to overtime) in 36 minutes for a win. Maybe I am wrong, but don't think the ODAC gets to many freshmen that cold satisfy the three following criteria as freshmen: (1) make a D1 team, (2) play 30+ minutes in a game against a D1 team, and (3) score 19 points to help lead the team to a comeback win in said game.

Duncan actually started to carve out a nice role off the bench as the year went along. Playing time was rather sporadic through his first two months, not surprising given he was a freshman, but he then averaged 16 minutes a game over the last two months. Obviously have no clue what his prospects were for the team in 2014-15 given they had seven other freshmen/sophomore guards returning, but it's clear the coach was growing more confident in him as the season progressed. The kid can play, I suspect he will make an immediate impact on the team.

Speaking of Delaware State...It's the former home of Nick Doyle, the D1 transfer VWC is getting. He was a walk-on at Delaware State. Given that, plus all the losing and his PT being slashed after the NJIT loss, it was probably the smart thing to do to transfer. He actually had originally committed to play at VWC out of high school. He announced he was going to VWC on Twitter, so I am not releasing anything that wasn't publicly available https://twitter.com/Nick_Doyle_/status/464189594100330496

tigerfanalso

anybody know anything about the HSC recruits ?

CMR

Don't know any of the HSC recruits, but on paper it looks like a strong group, along with the aforementioned Duncan.  HSC needed size with the losses of Williamson, Lumpkin, and Vassor, and it looks to be good size in this group.

CMR

And, I'd also add, that on film, Guimaraes looks to be the real deal!

CMR

Add Malcom N'Diaye , 6-2, Carlisle School, VA to the HSC list.
