H-SC has one other freshman also - Nick Chase from Wilmington (NC) Christian (2013 graduate).  He prepped last year but no other information.  Great game this coming weekend - neighborhood rivals as H-SC has an exhibition game with Div 1 Longwood in Farmville. I heard that it is a sale-out.  Also, the following Friday, it is a big day as H-SC plays Div III Coast Guard Academy in Puerto Rico on ESPN as part of a five year program for all academies to play on national TV. It will be exciting for the players, fans, and coaches to start this way.

Actually it's on ESPNU, not ESPN.

I'm looking forward to seeing HSC on ESPNU. Gonna be pretty neat to see an ODAC program get shown on national TV. I hope they win by a wide margin... represent the ODAC well HSC!

so how will D3 basketball show to a TV audience that is use to watching D1 ? I don't have a clue but I sure hope it shows well.
Could help D3 in many ways.

Don't know more about the newbies, other than what you can find online, but interesting one from Guam! Guess he does not get to go home for the weekends! Also twins from Charles Town WV.

H-SC played an exhibition game with Div 1 Longwood today.  Longwood came off a rough season last year but recruited a number of good, fast players -  95-60 Longwood was final score with Longwood making somewhere between 15 and 20  3 pointers. They shot the lights out.  Turnovers hurt H-SC plus limited rebounds. Several H-SC freshman showed well and will mature as season progresses and they learn to work together.  Happy to see season underway and looking forward to Puerto Rico game on Friday.

Did HSC underperform or play as expected vs. D1 Longwood. I heard some talk about HSC actually winning the game but I just could not see how that would be possible. Hopefully after Christmas break this young team will be ready to roll.

I don't think it was as bad as the final score indicates, when a whole entire team shoots like they are on fire in NBA Jam there isn't much you can do about that. Imagine it would have been a 20ish point margin of victory had Longwood had a "normal" shooting performance. Alas, this Longwood team is looking a lot better than the Longwood teams of yesteryear. The fact that a former 4-star Auburn player (and it's not like he left Auburn because he was lacking in talent) wasn't even the best player on Longwood speaks volumes about the talent Coach Gee has brought in there. If he can keep these guys on the court they could shake things up some in the Big South if that league isn't a post heavy league (which my guess is that it isn't).

All things considered, I thought we showed well. I told their radio guy I wanted a rematch since they got the video game cheat codes and we didn't, that's an unfair home court advantage! After seeing the Longwood game and the scrimmage two weekends ago, in my opinion we are looking much better in the preseason this year compared to last year. Now we'll just have to see how well that carries over to the regular season once teams start getting some film on us.

Just reviewed D3hoops pre-season and All-American picks.  From the ODAC, Randolph-Macon is picked 11th and Virginia Wesleyan is picked 19th.  For H-SC, this year versus prior years, they will only face one other pre-season pick [other than post season   :) ] - that is Mary Washington on Nov 22.  They are 30th.  Interestingly, there were no ODAC players on the preseason All- American teams (4 teams and Honorable Mention) so no bulleyes on players this year. There are a lot of potential good ODAC players so lets see what season end will show.

GO JACKETS!!!

Good game by HSC. It was pretty cool seeing the Tigers in HD on ESPNU and hearing those ESPN guys calling the game

On the Multi-Regional Topics link there is an annual D3 Men's National Pick Em League thread. One of the games in this week's pick em contest involves and ODAC team -- R-MC vs Mary Washington tomorrow. Those who chose to vote in the contest seem to be evenly split as to who they think will win that game. Good luck to all the ODAC teams playing this weekend.

Wesleyan up big 56-26 at the half over The College of New Jersey. En fuego from 3

Lots of newcomers for the Quakers tonight as they easily put away the Maine-Farmington Beavers, 69-41, in Greensboro.  It was 33-13 at the half.  Guilford faces the William Peace Pacers tomorrow while the Beavers meet the Virginia-Lynchburg Dragons, a 99-81 loser to WPU.

The Marlins came out smokin' hot tonight and shot light's out the first half.  Marlins made 14-19 three's (73%) and led by 30 at the half.  The College of New Jersey made adjustments at the start of the second half and got the lead down to14 before the Marlins got back on track, scoring an additional 4 three's for 18-32 for the night, along with 15 steals. The final score 91-60.  Tomorrow they play a tough Newport News Apprentice team.  They are cross-town rivals and it is always a big game.  They will have to play at their best for a win, but the Marlins  have already shown real promise for a young team and I look forward to a great season.  Go Marlins!
