H-SC  really had a great finish yesterday against NC Wesleyan.  They were down 9 points with 6 minutes to go and won by 3.  Freshman are starting to understand college level play better and the strong guard rotations are paying off. It would have been easy to let up when down 9 points but they did not. Will help as conference play begins.  Check out streaming at 2:00 today when they play Mary Washington in Winchester.

Interesting note, Rice plays W&M tonight.  Rhoades vs Shaver, like the old days!

I wish that someone at the Hampden-Sydney / Mary Washington game could tell me what happened in the last few seconds, because the game wasn't on the radio and the online play-by-play makes no sense at all.  It appears that, with the Tigers down by 2, Mike Murray engaged in some theatrics during the last second, turning over and stealing the ball back and then hitting a 3-pointer at the buzzer.  The Tigers also beat Mary Washington in the last second a year ago at HSC.

In Atlanta, the 15th-ranked Emory University Eagles (2-0) hit a shot with 1 second to go to beat the Guilford College Quakers (3-1) 77-75.  :(

That's why I write the recaps! And this one even has a video of the last 3.3 seconds

Quote...On the Eagles next possession, Taylor Johnson was called for an offensive foul, resulting in the Tigers getting the ball back with a chance to tie or win the game with 20 seconds left. Murray eventually dribbled into the paint where he was met by several Eagle defenders, and John Lutkenhaus tied up the ball for a jump ball with the possession arrow point in UMW's direction. Hampden-Sydney called a timeout to draw up their last defensive possession, and the underneath out of bounds pass by Johnson was picked off in the front court by Murray who then put up the game-winning shot.

And the description of the game-winning shot
QuoteMike Murray (Norfolk, VA / Norfolk Christian), following a turnover, stole the Mary Washington inbound pass with 3.3 seconds left and hoisted up a running three-pointer from about 30 feet to give H-SC a 58-57 win at the buzzer. His shot bounced high off the front of the rim, well above the height of the backboard, but came nearly straight down to go through the net.

It's a great write-up, but the in-bounds pass at the end of the game seems to have been stolen by someone not visible in the video, who passed it to Murray.    ????

It was Leon Hargrove who actually had the steal. I put Mike on the recap because I wasn't sure from watching it live and Mike got credit for it on the stats.

Are you going to edit it so that it's correct?

ESPN Picked up Mike Murray's game winning shot as one of their top 10 weekend plays.  Just like last year when Greg Lewis' two 3 pointers in the last few seconds lifted HSC over Mary Washington - both on November 22!!  ::)

Shenandoah's SID graciously agreed to make the correction and it is now reflected in the statistics.

EMU drops to 3-1 after losing to Messiah in PA.  Looks like they also could not hit FT. 8-of-23 will not win you many close games.  Ryan Yates went off with 29 points but my guess is Coach Dean will have them shooting FTs all break long.

Still a good start. Watch out for Lynchburg, too. They are undefeated and beat UMW by a larger margin than R-MC and also beat CNU by double digits at home while R-MC lost that OT game at CNU, largely due to poor free throw shooting.

Will your recap also be edited so that it becomes correct ... and consistent with the corrected stats?
