^^ Silverthorn is very self-confident & an aggressive outside shooter.  Holmes also had a great night (with a double double) & was tournament MVP.  Badger also made the all tournament team.  The guys spread scoring around quite a bit in these past 2 games.  Things are looking good in Crenshaw to close out 2014.  Happy New Year to everyone around the ODAC.

GO JACKETS!!!!

I think the ODAC is going to be very unpredictable this season. Nine of the twelve teams have winning records and the eight other than R-MC are likely capable of beating the two teams the Jackets beat this weekend. Both those teams come from somewhat weaker conferences than the ODAC. St. Norbert, the top team in the MWC where Carroll plays, is 9-1 and currently ranked 18th. None of the other MWC teams is receiving votes. The CUNYAC, where Baruch plays, has Brooklyn on top at 10-1 and not even getting a single top 25 vote. I'm not sure if the voters haven't noticed Brooklyn yet, or if Brooklyn has just played really weak competition. R-MC has to feel good to already have the two ODAC wins over VWC and Lynchburg, two very good teams. Hopefully the Jackets will continue to improve. I listened to Coach Davis on the post-game last night and he mentioned that he is still working on the rotation. It seemed clear from that comment and a couple of others that he still has some thinking and work to do to feel comfortable with who to put on the floor and when and maybe what combinations of players to have on the floor together. Anyway, it's probably going to be an intense battle in conference play, with no team likely to survive with only two losses as R-MC was able to do last season.

Brooklyn definitely plays some weak competition but I would suspect they get a small number of votes next time out if they don't lose at Staten Island on Saturday.

I'd also add, that both Engel's and Silverthorn's shots have been off so far and little has dropped for them, but once those two freshmen get the range down, they will both be very special from the outside.

Silverthorn is 4-5 from 3.  That's what I'm talking about!
Eighty percent from three will win a lot of games!

R-MC played a game against Averett a few years ago (likely Davis's first or second year as coach) and made about 20 3s with Adam Desgain hitting 11 of 13 (or something like that).
That's a career!  lol  The most memorable game for me was watching GC's Gabriel Lowder (now traveling with the World All-Stars as an "opponent" for the Harlem Globetrotters) when he made 10 of 11 and scored 36 versus Roanoke.

Memorable game for sure, but the most memorable 3 pointer has to be the Jordan Snipes length of the floor shot at R-MC after the missed free throw with 0.6 on the clock.  I was listening to that and couldn't believe it. That has to top the chart of buzzer beaters. The only thing that would have made it better if it had been in some really important championship game instead of a regular season conference game.

Now, you didn't have to bring that up!  What are you doing, being Hasanova's straight man?  Okay, go ahead, 'Nova.
That $20 I promised you is in the mail.  For Quaker fans, it doesn't get much better than that.  :)  Snipes, however, did hit another three at the buzzer to force one of the three OTs vs Lincoln in the NCAA playoffs, a game won by GC 129-128 when Strong scored 59.

Great memories of that win over Lincoln!  The fantasy contest we did that year was anyone could select any 6(?) players they chose (no draft, so duplicates were fine).  The four of us who had Strong finished 1-4 in the contest, as his fantasy total for that one game was well over 100 points!

I called that game at Virginia Wesleyan... Lincoln forgot they should try and slow Snipes down as he came up the court. Banked the 40-footer in so hard it only had one angle and that was through the basket... and the backboard was shaking about a minute into the overtime. Also, I heard a great story that 2 of Strong's 59 points should have been rewarded to Sanborn... but, I haven't seen the proof as of yet :)

Never heard the Sanborn story before, but Tyler went on to have his share of success also,  :)

Quakers back in action this afternoon at 3 pm against visiting E&H.  Hope we're over the pounding we took on Tuesday against Pat's CUA Cardinals!  If the game ends in a reasonable amount of time, I'm going to rush home and watch the Panthers and Cardinals.  Good sports day for me!

Even though they're not conference games, I think the games of the day for ODAC teams are VWC (#8) at #7 Emory and Lynchburg at #4 Richard Stockton (10-0), with one of those ten wins against #12 Albertus Magnus.

y_jack_lok

Were it not for a huge second half from Khory Moore VWC could have been embarrassed by Emory. Lynchburg was down three to Richard Stockton with 4 seconds left and the ball. They get off a 3 pointer that misses but the shooter was fouled. Time had expired. Three made free throws will send the game to OT. Shooter makes the first and misses the second. Game over . LC loses by 2.

Quakers over E&H, 67-48 ... not a well-played game by either team, but it's good to start the new year with an ODAC win.  Guilford improves to 8-3 and the Wasps fall to 1-10.

A whole lineup of conference games on Wednesday!

Randolph @ Hampden-Sydney - likely close, but I'll bet on HSC
Emory and Henry @ Washington and Lee - W&L should win at home
Eastern Mennonite @ Shenandoah - EMU, probably
Bridgewater @ Randolph-Macon - should be interesting, but I'll take RMC at home
Virginia Wesleyan @ Lynchburg - too close to call, with an excellent team Hornet team at home
Guilford @ Roanoke - another game that could easily go either way

What do the rest of you think?

Wouldn't surprise me if they are all within single digits. One interesting note about the HSC vs. Randolph rivalry is that the road team has won just once despite the fact that there have been several really close games.

dp3hoops top teams announced today - VWC at 9-2  were 8th before Christmas and remain as 8th     RMC 9-2 also were 22nd and moved up to 16th  -  H-SC also at 9-2 was not ranked and is now 33rd. Lynchburg is now 38th.  Next couple of weeks should really set tone for ODAC locally and for ODAC's national standings.

^ as usual, the ODAC is well represented in D-III Hoops polls.  Congrats to all above.
