Former HSC point guard Ryan Odom will be taking the reins at UNC-Charlotte on an interim basis while HC Alan Major takes an indefinite leave of absence to deal with ongoing health issues. Prior to his 4+ years at Charlotte Ryan has had stints as an assistant at Va. Tech, American, UNC-Asheville and Furman. Best of luck to Ryan as he leads the 49ers, and best wishes to coach Major for a full and speedy recovery.

H-SC  survived 59-57 against Randolph - down 7 with 6 minutes to go - shots just would not drop . Lewis and Murray came through at the end to come back and win.  Randolph had ball with 4 seconds to go down 2 but could not get a shot off - now 10-2 and 3-0 in ODAC so on the Bridgewater

I didn't see the game, but I think Guilford's Matt McCarthy hit a jumper with 3 seconds to go to beat the Maroons 66-64 in Roanoke.  Jonny Rice had 27 points on 10 of 18 shooting.

I'm sure Ryan will do a good job.  I saw his father, Dave Odom, at Guilford's game versus E&H last Saturday.  Dave played football and basketball for the Quakers.

Crazy end to the W&L-E&H game. Tied at 75 with about 15 or so seconds left. After a timeout E&H inbounds the ball and a W&L player fouls an E&H player. I don't think it was intentional. E&H in double bonus, shooter misses the first, makes the second, E&H up 76-75. W&L player drives the ball into the middle of the lane with three defenders directly in front of him. One of them gets whistled for a foul. W&L player makes both to take a 77-76 lead. E&H has maybe 4 seconds, gets the ball down and misses the shot at the buzzer. Not many people in the stands at W&L on the side the camera was showing.

Looks like several other close games in the conference with possibly similar exciting endings. I think the only one that wasn't close was R-MC over Bridgewater by 18.

Patrick Corrigan, who was also a PG at H-SC, is also on staff there at UNC Charlotte as a "program assistant." Not quite sure what that job entails, I know he's on the bench during games though. He was a graduate manager last year and got promoted this year.

Unless my memory is more impaired than I think it is, Ryan Odom was not the point guard for the Tiger team that went to the Sweet Sixteen in 93-94 and lost to the National Champion in the Elite Eight in 94-95.  He was a great shooting guard and still owns the record for most 3-pointers in a single season.  Tee Jennings was the point guard for those fabulous Tiger teams, with Odom, Schawb, Leonard, Kerr, and Coach Vick starting at the other positions.

While it's possible that Odom was the point guard in his senior year (95-96), after Tee Jennings' graduation, I believe that Elson Devan took the reins as point guard in both that year and the next.  I'd be happy to hear about this from others who watched those teams.

Stats seem to bear this out although it looks like he might have played the point some his senior year (three-point shots way down, percentage increased, most assists on the team but only 3.5 per game.

Thanks for bringing the stats to the question, Pat.  It does look Ryan might have played some point in his senior year.  I don't remember Elson playing anything other than point, and Alex Robbins probably played some point that year too.

Thanks for the clarification guys. In all honesty, until I read the article in the Charlotte Observer I didn't even know Ryan went to HSC. I just figured the regulars on here would be interested to get the update on him.

Another great lineup of conference games today!

W&L @ Virginia Wesleyan, 2pm - should be a blowout, unless VWC takes it for granted
Guilford @ RMC, 2pm - RMC should beat the Quakers at home
Shenandoah @ E&H, 4pm- E&H should pick up their first conference win at home
HSC @ Bridgewater, 4:30pm - I'll be there, and I think HSC is good enough to win a close one in the Valley
Roanoke @ Randolph, 4:30pm - Randolph should win this one and most every game they play in that crazy gym of theirs
Lynchburg @ EMU, 7pm - I'm impressed enough with Lynchburg that I think they'll get the win at EMU

What do the rest of you think?

^ we agree w/you except must go w/EMU at home tonight.

We take nothing for granted when the Quakers come to town.  Hope the Jackets are ready for them today.

GO JACKETS!!!!

Hope the Quakers travel ready to play today ... some of their recent trips to Ashland have been U-G-L-Y!  Hope every ODAC team gives it their all today.
