rmc1982 ... You'll be safer, watching it on your tablet, because you won't have to drive home after the game on icy roads with sad tears in your eyes ... ;)

GO TIGERS!!
ahhh..... you were saying Algernon???? .....ASS WHOOPING  in YOUR HOUSE!!I EXPECT MORE from you guys.... especially in your own gym!!....Im glad I'm not with my HSC friends now for the 2 hr ride home....one of 'em is a Circuit Court Judge.... it would have been a quiet ride!!  I hope you get it together.... the ODAC is a lot better off with y'all stronger! !Not rubbing it in.... just an observation.... Dee Vick needs to step it up a notch or two!!

OUCH!!!!  In addition to staying safe off the road, you can drink bourbon during the game with the tablet.  Yes, a great game by our Jackets, and Boo-YA for Engel and Silverthorn on 8-14 on 3s.  Several weeks ago, I called this duo and their 3s, glad they both showed up against the girls in the woods.  Hand me another bourbon!
YES CMR.... A couple of Makers Marks were raised in our Jacket's honor tonight,as any RMC Gentleman should!! I really hope the Tigers get it together..... our conference is MUCH BETTER when they do!! I feel for my HSC buddies.... they deserve better!!

OUCH!!  Not a surprising result tonight, but it was still hard to watch.  I don't think many Tiger fans expected to win this one, with our young Tiger team up against a very experienced Yellow Jacket team that has already beaten the Marlins, Hornets, Quakers, and Eagles.  Having seen them play tonight, I think the Yellow Jackets are even better than we expected.  I hate to see what will happen when they play the bottom of the ODAC.

D-BAT

This was a great game tonight ... SU had a 5 minute drought in 2nd half that hurt their chance of pulling off the upset.

QuoteWINCHESTER, Va. – No. 8 Virginia Wesleyan used a strong defensive effort to earn a 76-68 ODAC men's basketball victory over Shenandoah Wednesday evening.

The Marlins (12-2, 4-1 ODAC) scored 20 second chance points and 17 points off of turnovers to outlast Shenandoah (1-13, 0-5).

The game featured seven lead changes and five ties with the Hornets cutting a 15-point VWC lead to just six with 1:11 to play.

Coach Rob Pryor's club then forced a missed Marlins shot on the ensuing possession, but Virginia Wesleyan was able to corral the offensive rebound and then hit two free throws with 33 seconds left to seal the victory.

In the first, feeding off the energy of a capacity crowd, SU jumped out to a 9-4 lead and led until VWC took its first lead at 16-14 thanks to a 12-5 run from the 15:10 to 10:12 marks.

The Marlins eventually extended their advantage out to seven points at 30-23 with 5:19 remaining before SU scored eight straight points in a span of 2:11 to retake the lead at 30-29.

VWC scored four of the final six points of the half to lead 34-33 at the break.

The second half brought two lead changes and three ties with the Marlins taking the lead for good on a Nick Doyle 3-pointer with 12:57 to play.

This bucket, which came off of a fastbreak, started a 20-3 spurt in the next 6:36 that threatened to turn the game into a rout.

The Hornets refused to fold its collective tent, however, storming back on the strength of a 17-6 run in the next 4:52.

Junior Malcolm Clark, who led all players with 26 points, had 10 of the 17 points during the span on three field goals (one 3-pointer) and a 3 of 3 performance from the line.

Clark added 10 rebounds to post his first-ever double-double.

Antwan Pittman backed up Clark with 10 points.

Khory Moore and Cameron Owens each had 15 points for the Marlins.

Shenandoah shot 48 percent for the game and saw VWC grab 40 of the game's 76 rebounds.

SU takes to the road Saturday for a 3 p.m. ODAC game at Guilford.

Fairly tight game at Guilford tonight ... Quakers led until the mid-40s, then LC took two short-lived leads with the last being 47-44.  Guilford retook the lead and held on 61-56.  Lynchburg has some quickness and good shooters ... not an easy win for the Quakers.  GC improves to 10-4, 3-2 and LC falls to 9-5, 2-3.

I found the following column by Brian Doyle on the Collegeinsider.com website and thought some of you would find it interesting ...

QuoteTHE JOURNEY OF A COLLEGE BASKETBALL COACH

September 28, 2009

Roy Williams, Bill Self, Mike Krzyzewski, Tom Izzo, and many others are certainly household names in the sporting world. Leaders of high powered NCAA Division I men's basketball programs, these coaches earn multi-million dollar salaries, numerous endorsement deals and travel the country and the world recruiting the best athletes for their institutions. For every Mike Krzyzewski, however, there are countless head and assistant coaches at all levels trying to make their mark and find success and happiness in the world of college basketball. A glance at the highly successful Division III Old Dominion Athletic Conference provides an interesting snapshot of the different paths taken in the journey of a college basketball coach.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

He still lives in the same house he lived in as the ten-year Head Coach at Division III Randolph-Macon College (RMC) in Ashland, Virginia, but when the prime recruiting month of July rolled around this year, Mike Rhoades, first year assistant at VCU, travelled in a slightly different style than he had in years past.

In Rhoades' words, "At Macon, I drove everywhere and slept on a lot of couches. At VCU, I fly everywhere and stay in Marriotts."

At the same time that Rhoades was spending his first July travelling the recruiting circuit as a Division I assistant coach, New RMC Head Coach Nathan Davis was hitting the road for the first time as a D-III Head Coach. Randolph-Macon moved quickly to replace Rhoades, welcoming Davis back ......

^^ great article about Coach Rhoades.  His team plays at ODU tonight at 6:00 pm... would like to go but won't make the drive.  Hope local Jackets fans can get there even though the odds don't look good for the Owls.

There was a whole lot of bourbon drinking going on around Ashland last night while following Marty & Andrew's audio stream.  The freshman, Silverthorn, really lit it up & Engel also had a good night in his debut at H-SC but a junior, Moore, also had a record night.  Seemed like the Jackets defense put enough pressure on the Tigers' scorers to contain them & Tigers not able to cover all the Jackets shooters.

Still plenty of time left in this season!  Congrats to all the winners around the ODAC last night.

GO JACKETS!!!

Hey, Pat, it really 'stings' to have RMC called the Tigers in the cover story!

Sorry about that, Pat.  I've cut most of it out and pasted the link.

We're still in 1st place in the conference!  Cool.  How many games do we have to lose before we get knocked out of the top spot?

Algernon - The Tigers are tied for 3rd place with Guilford and the Royals of EMU who are coming to Farmville this Saturday.  RMC is in first by themselves and VWC holds 2nd all by themselves as well.

Mike, you may have missed the joke.  The lead article had this today:

No. 16 Randolph-Macon went on the road and handled archrival Hampden-Sydney, 77-55. Mike Silverthorn scored 17 points in his first collegiate start, including five three-pointers. The Tigers (12-2, 5-0 ODAC) remain alone in first in the conference, one game in front of No. 8 Virginia Wesleyan, which beat Shenandoah, 76-68. Eastern Mennonite had a late 10-0 run to take a 68-58 lead and went on to defeat local rival Bridgewater 77-67

EMU finally shots FT and beats BC by 10 at home.  http://www.emuroyals.com/sports/mbkb/2014-15/releases/20150114577mfu For what it is worth, the photos coming from the EMU Web page are really strong.  Usually gym shots have bad lighting, these are strong.  I really liked this shot.  As someone who spent years working games in the old gym, this makes me smile.  http://www.emuroyals.com/sports/mbkb/2014-15/photos/0008/index

It's more like:  How many more games do you need to lose to keep the top spot!

Ah, yes.  I didn't read the D3Hoops article.  After the shellacking the Tigers took last night, I was staying away from any articles that might have been written.
