Congratulations to both VWC and RMC for great runs!  How many times do you play the same team four times in one season?  Go Marlins ... represent the ODAC well.

Even more rare - how often does one team win the first three, then lose the fourth?  (Though it happened just last year in even more dramatic fashion: Amherst had three double-digit wins over Williams before Williams absolutely ran them out of Salem, winning by 29!)

RMC faced a tough situation. Beating a good team three times in one season is almost impossible, the 4th time is even more so. Should not be forced into that situation until the final four, my opinion.

Good luck to the Marlins this coming weekend. I'll try my best to get there.

Hasa, short drive from Greensboro !!!!

Unfortunately, the Division III committee doesn't see it that way. They will try to separate teams as much as possible, but the restrictions with regards to travel and funding within Division III tournaments make it impossible to separate all conference pairs by that much.

Specifically in terms of Virginia Wesleyan, they are so far out to the south and east that it's difficult to move them around. They are not within 500 miles of the quality Ohio teams and can't easily get to New England, either.

The Division I committee will talk about separating conference teams that way, and the Division III committee will definitely separate them as much as feasible, but for Randolph-Macon and Virginia Wesleyan to potentially face each other in the Elite 8 is more than fair.

But yes, when you have two quality teams that are so evenly matched, it is very difficult for one of them to beat the other four out of four times. That's one of the reasons why I picked Virginia Wesleyan in my Final Four in my tournament preview.

We agree, and I remember your final four picks included VWC. I'm not a RMC fan by any measure, however, I think they beat most other teams in the round of 8. Facing the challenge of beating VWC for the 4th time is difficult at best, if not impossible.
Glad an odac team qualified. I really think VWC will bring home the trophy. Great athletes, great coach and they have been there before.

As an IWU fan, I well remember that you have been there before (I demand a rematch from 2006!! ;D).

With all due respect to VaWes and Babson (this is one of the best FFs in memory, at least on paper), I predict a UWSP vs Augie final, and have NO idea what will happen then.  IMO their defenses are just TOO good for anyone else to get thru.

Of course, I HAVE been wrong before, and will be wrong in the future! :D

Not looking good for the Marlins, down 63-55 with 1:18 to go. UWSP came out hot in the 2nd half

Congratulations to the Marlins on almost going all the way to the championship game.  Starting out the year with only 2 starters and some players with limited time from the previous season I believe Coach Macedo and the Marlins deserve to be be given high praise.   Stevens Point players have had 4 years together to perfect their game.  And they have.  They are remarkably talented .  The Marlins had a short let-down in the second half and it caused them to lose the game, but for a Marlins team to play so well after only 6 months of playing regularly together they were spectacular.  They were also the ONLY team to have to win 4 games on the road to reach the final four.  So here's to the Marlins!  You played your hearts out and you should be very proud of what you have accomplished this year.  Coach Macedo , your program is the best and you are the best coach in the country  in my book.   Congratulations on another fine season.

Shocking, a WIAC team won another National Championship. VWC made a good run at them. Congrats on yet, another great year. Hopefully the odac can win another championship next year and VWC is just the team to get it done.

Congratulations to the Marlins on a fine season.  I believe the ODAC will win another championship soon.  With several conference teams at this level, the competition helps us all get better!

badcall!

Burgess out at BC.  Search for new coach to begin.

VWC loses 2 starters and one of their main backups, but will return Khory Moore who should be an All-American candidate next year, as well as a host of other players who now have final four experience. Macedo always brings in a quality freshman class, so the expectations for VWC will be lofty next year, but knowing Coach Macedo, he will have the Marlins up to the task!

tigerfanalso

As long as VWC can keep Coach Macedo the Marlins will always be in the hunt. Might be the best in D3 and I'm surprised he has not been hired by a mid-major. I see that coming in the near future if he has the interest. For your sake and for the sake of the odac I hope he stays at VWC for a long, long time.
