badcall!

Burgess isn't leaving on his own-he was told he was not being retained.  Essentially fired but given the chance to resign.  Another terrible decision by the administration of BC.  Clueless.

Nathan Davis to Bucknell
http://www.rmcathletics.com/sports/mbkb/2014-15/releases/Davis_Bucknell

I'm both surprised and not surprised. Not surprised because of his success at R-MC and that he had been at Bucknell previously (although opportunities at other D1 schools were certainly possible). Surprised because I had this sense that he was committed to his alma mater and might be around for a lot longer. But, best of luck.

Now a question. The article says  "There are five former Randolph-Macon coaches who have been Division I head coaches and three are current: Davis at Bucknell, Mike Rhoades at Rice and Gregg Marshall at Wichita State. Former R-MC assistant Shawn Finney was previously the head coach at Tulane and former Yellow Jacket assistant Jeff Reynolds was the head coach at Air Force." Didn't Old Dominion become a D1 program at some point while Paul Webb was coaching there?

So the coach is leaving along with 8 seniors. Next couple of years may not be too friendly for RMC b'ball. Coach Davis did a great job and I'm sure will do well at Bucknell as well. ODAC is getting good at placing coaches at the D1 level. As well, I'm certain RMC will bring in another outstanding coach, like they guy now at Randolph (maybe). I think he does more with his talent than most odac coaches do, has no facilities, school has no history to use to it's recruiting benefit, but seem to be competitive each year. He'd be in my top 3 if I were the AD.

Here is the question: Does RMC stay in the Nunnally/Rhoades/Davis family?  Big decisions for Jeff Burns and RMC. Jamal Brunt could have been an excellent candidate but he has left UofR for Miami. But there are others that may have interest or RMC has interest in.

Am I the only one who remembers that Paul Webb coached the Jackets before Nunnally? And wasn't Nunnally an assistant to Webb or in some way involved with the program when Webb was coach? The lineage goes back one more generation and in my mind should be the Webb/Nunnally/Rhoades/Davis family. Paul Webb's name is painted on the court for a reason.

The college's own press release omitted Paul Webb from the list of former coaches who had gone on to coach in Division  1.

At first I immediately thought of Jamal Brunt but then remembered the Richmond paper story about him leaving for Miami and Jim Larranaga's staff last week..... He's not gonna bag a Top asst. job at a D1 ACC school for this I don'T think...... Gonna be an interesting next few days.....

You are absolutely correct.  Nunnally was an assistant under Webb and also coached the Freshman team to an undefeated season in 1974-75.  As a freshman, I watched Coach Webb lead the 4 Pauls (Feeley, Jez, Zuidima, and Webb (the son)) and Fletcher Johnson to beat Georgetown and Coach John Thompson in Crenshaw.

^^^ Thanks. I did not know about the Georgetown game. Must have been rough for the Hoyas to play in such a small gym.  :)  Home court advantage?

One of the more interesting aspects of that game was that Thompson was ejected and continued to coach through a crack in the locker room door.  Priceless!

I just checked the press release again and see that it has been updated to include Paul Webb among the former Jacket coaches to coach in in Division 1: http://rmcathletics.com/sports/mbkb/2014-15/releases/Davis_Bucknell

Thank you!

RMC has always had the pleasure of having great coaches. I'm certain that trend will continue. By the way, three of RMC's recruits enrolled at HSC today !!!!!

I have no doubt that RMC recruits students smarter than that!   ;D

Never knew these boards existed until my Macon neighbor told me about them he also said that Macon is crushing my tigers in recruiting also even without a coach. Says that the have 3 kids coming in that could play D1 ball. Is there any truth to this and where I can I find out what H-SC has coming in next year?
