R-MC roster is now posted: http://rmcathletics.com/sports/mbkb/2016-17/roster. Eleven returning players and four freshmen. Several players that could have been back but aren't on the roster, most notably Mike Silverthorn.
Technically, 10 returnees, 4 freshmen, and 1 transfer from Canisius.

So Jermaine Johnson is the transfer. His name didn't seem familiar, but I wasn't sure. He is on the Canisius 2012-13 roster as a freshman but not on any of their subsequent rosters. I guess basketball junkies in Virginia might know him from his high school time at St. Christopher's in Richmond. Seems like a solid addition to the roster.

Mike Silverthorn still lists himself as a Macon student on Twitter and Facebook so, if true, it appears he just isn't playing ball for this semester or year at least.

Heard that Logan Seacrist has transferred from Bridgewater to Lynchburg, pulling the reverse Ashby Tarkington for any of your old heads on the board.

Believe Trever Mayo is no longer at Guilford as well.

I think this was already posted a while back, but Josh Freund went with Clay Nunley to Roanoke.

Aaron Patterson is not on Shenandoah's roster, neither is Kelsey Thomas (co-captain last year). But they do gain Kwa McDonald who obviously must have transferred from EMU unless there is another Kwa McDonald out there.

H-SC lost Andrew Evans to D2 UNC-Pembroke (financial). Gray Cheers also left and is now on D1 Campbell's roster (closer to home, wanted to major in pharmacy).

Those are the only notable non-senior losses or transfers that I have heard about or see on the posted rosters.

Why is RMC's Mike Silverthorn not on the roster this year? He is a very good BB player and will be sorely missed.

I read in Multi-Regional Topics/Top 25 Talk that H-SC took Longwood to OT and that Guimaraaes was 14-15 from the floor with 30 points.

Wesleyan played ODU tough for a half in an exhibition.  Moore was fantastic in the first half.  In the 2nd half, ODU used their size and athleticism to outscore the Marlins by about 30.

Quick question for you guys. As primarily a MIAC guy I like to dabble in other conferences and I just remembered that RC has a new coach this year. Do you think that he plans to run the same up-tempo offense they ran the previous couple of years? Thanks!

No Smitty... I highly suspect Clay Nunley will run what he wants. You may see some signs of the former system due to the talent he has on the team, but Nunley is a sound coach who has gotten a lot of his teams (especially at Randolph). Doing other people's systems doesn't seem to be his bread and butter. He has his own and I bet Roanoke will fit in nicely. He also had one of his key players at Randolph transfer to Roanoke with him.

Thanks Dave! Makes a lot of sense. Might see some growing pains right away from them, but based on what I have heard of Coach Nunley and RC being ranked 2nd in the preseason polls, I suspect those growing pains wont last too long.

I talked to Coach Nunley last week for my opening week Around the Nation column.  Very confident.  Excited for what the team can do.  I don't think he said it outright, but I got the vibe he thinks they can improve on last year.  It won't make the story, so I can drop it here: Nunley said Josh Freund, who transferred over from Randolph, dropped 25 pounds over the summer and is expected to be more nimble and active this season.  He was 19th in scoring and 8th in rebounds last year.  A very good addition for the Maroons.

R-MC at CNU tomorrow night...any news/comments regarding the Jackets?  CNU is capable of having another great season, but only time will tell....

CNU is ranked pre-season #2 by d3hoops. The Jackets will miss Lamont Moore (graduation), Mike Silverthorn (not playing) and one or two non-starters from last year not on the roster this season. Otherwise, the core of last year's team is back so hopefully that bodes well for a good season.

VWC opens up tonight vs Methodist. Interested to see how the Marlins come out this year after not making the NCAA tourney last year for the first time since 2004. Watching both preseason games this year they look a lot deeper than last year. They have a few freshmen that should play minutes for them and make them a lot bigger and more athletic than they were last year. In both exhibitions (vs a D2 school and Vs ODU) Khory Moore looked like the best player on the floor on either team. If he can continue this type of play to go along with Tim jones playing how he has this Marlin team can be very dangerous. We will see how it looks tonight but my early thought is that VWC is back to normal.

Final Guilford 62, Greensboro 59 at the Greensboro Coliseum.

Poor shooting by both teams in their opener, but GCQ did set a school record with 67 rebounds.  The Quakers face Texas-Dallas on Friday at home in a tournament.  Emory and William Peace meet in the other matchup.  Championship and 3rd place games are Saturday at Guilford.

VWC 99 Methodist 61... Great start to the year by the Marlins. 5 Players were in double figures led by Khory Moore with 17. Tim Jones was spectacular last night almost notching a triple double. The depth of the Marlins showed last night. They outscored methodist bench 57-19.  Look forward to seeing them in action Friday night in the Marlin tip off tourney vs Frostburg state.
