Last night's R-MC/CNU box score seems to tell it all. CNU out-performed the Jackets in every stat except blocks. I know CNU is pre-season #2 by d3hoops, but I thought the Jackets would do a little better. Definitely a bad night for the offense. Was it CNU defense or just tough luck getting the ball to fall? I'm pretty sure the Jackets are a better team than this game might suggest.

Both teams looked very rusty (as one would expect) in the first half.  I think it's impossible to tell much about teams on opening night.  Both squads will have good opponents this weekend and I think that'll tell more.  CNU has a deeper bench and more experience - that showed, but neither team looked like they will in a few weeks.

VWC improved to 3-0 this weekend beating Frostburg State on Friday and Concordia(TX) yesterday in the Marlins annual Tip off tourney. What can I say about the performance by Khory Moore... Khory had 48 points (a new VWC single game record) in 29 minutes going 14-22 from the floor and 14-14 from the line. This kid is on a mission this year. He was named tournament MVP and was joined on the all-tournament team by Senior Tim Jones and Sophomore Keijon Honore. This team is exciting to watch. They remind me of the old VWC teams with the defensive pressure they apply. Look forward to following my Marlins throughout the year.

After starting with a loss to Mary Washington, EMU won both games as part of their Tip Off Invitational this past weekend.  Here is a link to stats and video.  http://emuroyals.com/sports/mbkb/2016-17/schedule They are now off till Guilford on the 30th

R-MC gets its first win 61-47 at Ferrum. Daniel Noe's 13 points in the first 8 minutes of the 2nd half (8 of those in less than a minute and a half early) were huge. Without that who knows how the game might have turned out

Final GC 94, EMU 88 in OT at Guilford

Guilford's Carson Long scored 32 on 15 of 20 shooting and Dominque Henderson scored 21 on 8 of 10 shooting as the Quakers withstood a school-record 18 three-pointers on a school-record 45 attempts by the Royals.  GC had a 43-37 halftime lead and a 10-point lead in the second half, but 10-18 shooting beyond the arc in the second half kept the Royals in the game.  Their 17th three with 5 seconds to go sent the game to OT knotted at 81.   GC is 4-1 (1-0) and EMU is 2-2 (0-1).  Guilford visits Hampden-Sydney Saturday afternoon.

congrats on the victory. that damn 3 point shot is one reason I no longer enjoy college b'ball.
good luck to your Quakers. Don't think you have much to worry about this coming Saturday. I here the Tigers are not very good this year, picked 7th in odac preseason and from what I've been told, are not playing so good 5 games in. hopefully that all well change when your Quakers come to town !!!!!

Hope this is not a repeat of last year for the Royals.  A lot of "moral victories" but really close losses.

R-MC in a similar situation. It's all about getting better as the season progresses. Hopefully that will happen for the Jackets and they can improve on last year's record. To do that, though, they need to win 12 or 13 of the 20 remaining regular season games.

EMU is athletic and can shoot.  I think they'll win their share this year.  Guilford let 6-10 point leads get away at the end of the game with, you guessed it, made threes by the Royals.  Think about it ... 54 points on threes by the Royals and 40% shooting beyond the arc ... that's equal to 60% on two-pointers.  It's tough to have to score thrice to counter two scores by EMU ... glad we were able to pull it out.

Thanks.  I'm glad we pulled it out.  I'm always wary of a trip to HSC ... try not to get ahead of myself when we play the Tigers.  To your point, the three has definitely changed the game.

Curious to see which E&H team will show up at R-MC tommorrow -- the one that won at VWC or the one that lost to Ferrum at home, especially given that R-MC beat Ferrum at Ferrum.

Excellent win for the Jackets over E&H. The Wasps have size. Both teams have impressive freshman guards, each wearing #1. Enjoyed listening to Coach Merkel after the game.

The Jackets definitely stole one today, EHC was the better team on the floor,
