Totally agree, and glad the Jackets pulled it out.  But, if I were picking one of these teams going forward, unfortunately it would not be the Jackets.  Ironically, the play of EHC reminded me more of RMC that I'm familiar with than the current RMC team does.  Just hoping that Merkel can recruit some size going forward as well.

An important road win for the Quakers at HSC, 69-53.  I watched Guilford's fine women's team top BC 84-66, so I didn't get to watch online.  Looks as though Guilford led the Tigers by double figures for much of the game.

Including Wednesday's 94-88 OT win over EMU, I think Guilford Sophomore Carson Long should get some consideration for ODAC Player of the Week.  He had 49 points (32 vs EMU and 17 vs HSC) on 21 of 29 shooting.  Lest you think all his points were inside, this includes 5 of 11 threes.  Two great all around boxscores with rebounds, steals and low foul totals.  There's a long way to go, but he's definitely one of the early ODAC leaders.

Surprise! Hoopsville is already On the Road this season, but in rather familiar territory: the Roanoke Valley.

Dave was already in Salem, Virginia for the Division III soccer championships, so why to check out the newest gymnasium in D3?!

Hoopsville will air shortly after the Virginia Wesleyan-Roanoke men's game. At halftime of the game, the court will be dedicated to former Roanoke coach Charlie Moir, the father of former Roanoke Coach Page Moir.

Today's special show will feature interviews with Roanoke coach Clay Nunley, Carey Harveycutter, and others.

Dave will also take a look at the first week's Top 25 and ahead to Week 2's poll.

Show hits the air at 2:30 PM ET here: http://www.d3hoops.com/hoopsville/archives/2016-17/dec4.

A little more size would certainly be nice. I do wonder if it is getting tougher for D3 teams to land the guys who are 6'8" and up. Seems like I'm not seeing as many players of that height on the teams I watch out here in the midwest as I did 10 years ago.

Jackets down early to AU, playing extremely poorly.  If they lose to AU, this could be the worst RMC team that I've seen in thirty years.

CMR

Embarrassing, totally embarrassing, losing to a 1-5 Averett team.  RMC hits a new low, not seen in this program in many years.  Responsibility starts at the top.

^^^ Averett definitely the better team today. Jackets couldn't defend Averett's #2. Averett appeared to be a good defensive team, quick to react to anything the Jackets did on offense. I'm no expert, but it seems like the Jackets need to move better without the ball and need to make quicker passing decisions. Plus, shooting seemed really off and the box score confirms that.

This seems a bit extreme. RMC is a good team, but they are going to go through some growing pains this season. That was to be expected even by those of us outside of the program and conference. Averett may look "subpar" at 1-5, but they are a good team. RMC is still trying to find himself. Give them some time to figure it out. Heck, they beat E&H last weekend, remember?

Probably is too extreme, but I was expecting last year to be that down year, with this year being more of a breakout year.  But, doesn't seem to be going that way (yet).

I don't think you're too extreme; Nathan Davis took a high bar and raised it even higher.  Though the season is young, we are only a couple of years removed from ODAC titles and NCAA tournament appearances.  R-MC has always had a strong basketball tradition, going back to its DII days.  I am also somewhat mystified how the quality could have fallen off so quickly.  I know Mike Rhoads had some tough years after taking over from Hal Nunnally, so I'm going to wait it out.  But I have no problems with having a higher standard attached to Randolph-Macon basketball.

RMC FAN90

Im new to this board so please be kind. I've read the different post but never felt the urge to write anything until now. I am a very big R-MC fan and Alumni. I try to catch all the games in town and watch most of the away games that are streamed. Here are my observations from watching 6 of the 8 games this year. Way to many subs, he needs to cut back to an 8 or 9 man rotation and let these guys play for 6 minutes together if possible. Change up the defense at times. All they play is man, maybe switching to zone  or matchup zone  at times may confuse the other team for a possession or two, which in basketball is game changing. Offense needs more movement, don't know if thats be design or what. Why is your senior leader coming off the bench? Michael Taylor needs to start every game, wrong message being sent and this could be causing some intersquad drama?Btw, the win versus E&H was fools gold, if Myles Turner plays and is not injured we lose by double digits. Last but not least, where are the gold (lemon yellow) uniforms? It would be nice to see them get a big win over Mary Washington on sunday before the holiday break.

Granted, I only saw RMC for the two games at the Hoopsville Classic before Thanksgiving, so this may not apply any longer, but to me there was a real chemistry issue.  They need Michael Taylor to score - he could and probably should be averaging 20ppg - but at least in the games I saw, he wasn't running the offense very well and trying to do too much on his own.  I suspect, if his minutes are suffering, it's probably because that continues.  The team played better when he wasn't on the floor - they were scoring less, but everyone was involved and they were running the offense they were supposed to run.

Those were just my outside observations, but seniors can have a real impact on the team - if players aren't on the same page, it's going to be a long season.

Worst team RMC has had on the floor in the 17 years I have been following them.

Seems like Don and I are on the same page, except I've been watching RMC for 42 years.
