Anyone have any idea what's going on at Bridgewater with regards to their top 2 returning scorers from last year-Saylor and Boggs?  Neither has played a minute this season yet they are both on the roster still.  I saw the JMU exhibition early in the year and they were both shirt and tie on the bench.  Injuries, suspension, discipline issues?  The loss of these 2 players has really been glaring so far for BC.

19 guys in 2 season have transferred to a different school or quit basketball altogether. What is the common denominator here? Shawn Postiglione. The verbal abuse and unfair treatment of players has led to poor team chemistry and mistrust between players and coaches. None of the above mentioned players deserved what they've gotten. He's forced out multiple all-ODAC quality players and has lost two more this year in Boggs and Saylor. Neither player's actions deserve the treatment they were handed and no other coach would have put them in the position he did.

Don't let their current record fool you, the state of Bridgewater basketball has ventured down a dark path.

This post is very misleading. When Coach Postiglione took over, the men's basketball program was in dire need of a rebuild. Many of the individuals you listed were walk-ons and fill-ins during their first season, as well as players left over from the previous regime, and there are definitely no All-ODAC players on this list.

Coming from a donor, the alumni base is very pleased with Coach Postiglione's progress on the recruiting trail. Having watched this years team play on several occasions, it is obvious that serious strides have been made with the overall ability of the players and in terms of building a winning culture. This team is leaps and bounds further along than the past two years teams were. Large turnover is very common at the Division III level, especially when there is a coaching change at a program. With seven freshmen and six sophomores, as well as an impact transfer in Horde, a roster made entirely of Coach Postiglione's first two recruiting classes, the future is very bright in Nininger Hall.

Additionally, this sounds to me like a post written by a jilted parent or player, and doesn't make a whole lot of sense when you look at the level of play exhibited by the team so far this year.

Great post, coach..

Each of Postiglione's first two years has been the same story..."this BC team is being led by great freshmen and sophomores and the future is very bright..." only to have all of those promising freshmen and sophomores transfer out and this year is no different. Half of the team will be gone again in the off-season and you can take that to the bank. So far, who has BC beaten in ODAC play? Last place Randolph and EMU, each by single digits. Horde, I'll give you has been a stellar pick up for them, but don't be misled by great play against struggling teams.

This post is neither a jilted player nor parent, just someone who knows what's going on and has seen it going on for long enough. But hey, if the alumni base is "as supportive as you say..." then I guess they will enjoy 1-2 years of great young talent before it being ran off to another school.

Jackets win 84-75 in Crenshaw! Haven't seen them much all year and didn't catch but the last 8  minutes of this one- the Jackets were fortunate to win against a scrappy Gennies team that just couldn't get over the hump late. I was impressed by freshman point guard Buzz Anthony ... Kid played a pretty good game and stuck his free throws late! Jackets weren't aggressive enough defensively and allowed too many driving buckets.... Against a team like VWC that will kill them! All in all a decent win against a good  team but certainly not a decisive win... Still a ways to go for the Jackets...HSC in Crenshaw this coming week and that's never easy either!

Roanoke beats VWC 83-77 at home. The game went back and forth the entire time, luckily RC was able to get the last run in.

Didn't get to watch the game but from the box score it looks like the key things for the Jackets were keeping W&L's Clayton Murtha from getting a field goal, only turning the ball over 8 times, and an edge on the offensive glass. So a good win by the Jackets to give the Generals their first conference loss and remain unbeaten in conference along with E&H.

Randolph and EMU get their first conference wins, VWU gets its second loss, and BC wins at GC to bring them even with each other at 3-3.

Sorry- haven't been on much and I'm a little rusty!.....maybe...just maybe....Murtha's cloaking was partly the reason that it looked so easy for The Gennies to drive to the hole... because the help was staying put on him so the drivers couldn't dish it off to him...but part of it was the defense looked a step slow in cutting the drivers off. They will never get to the next level and be a serious threat in post season ( if they even make it that far) without the defense our program has always been known for... They didn't play BAD... that's not my point.... it's not not the level of "havoc" ( with apologies to Mike Rhoades for lack of a better word) that we're accustomed to seeing from our program! If they can step that aspect up - ESPECIALLY IN CRENSHAW- then I think we have the propensity to go higher...

Been a D3Hoops reader for years, looking at multiple Region Chats and some stories I wanted to comment on, I figured now was as good a time as ever to join. Thanks for the warm welcome (waiting for applause  ;D)

This seems to be a pretty solid topic on the ODAC board right now as it certainly reads as if someone has a pretty HUGE bone to pick with Coach Postiglione. I would tend to side with BWaterEaglesAlum86 on this one as in D3 especially- transferring out and deciding not to play after a year or two on a team at a school...is fairly common. I was lucky enough to coach D3 basketball, and rarely are any coaches judged on transfers the way that a D1 coach is. Too many factors are in play when a student-athlete is paying their own way...and, may have picked the school for basketball, only to realize they aren't that passionate about playing anymore.

Coach Postiglione, from an outsiders perspective, took over a program that had issues and has put together some solid recruiting classes...with more steam and talent in the current group of freshman than he has had before. It takes a while for a new coach at the D3 level to get things moving when a program has struggled as much as the Eagles had prior to his arrival. While "19 transfers" sounds like a large number, its not if you look at the number of players brought in on a yearly basis...remember, a lot of D3 schools hold try-outs and players do get cut.

Although I don't begin to know the situation in the locker room, unfair treatment of players has no place in college athletics...and if there was this type of treatment, I don't think Coach Postiglione or his staff would be in place. Coaching by nature is about adjusting the habits of players, some of who don't necessarily want to be adjusted...the players who left might not have enjoyed the coaching they were getting. Just curious, of the 19 players who have left, how many are on rosters at other schools?

Hope you enjoyed my first post on the boards...will look forward to making more.

Looks like weather in the Commonwealth is messing with the schedule a bit. Two games originally scheduled for tonight have been moved to tomorrow -- GC (3-3) @ Roanoke (2-4) and HSC (1-5) @ RMC (6-0). If the other games get played tonight they are EMU (1-5) @ SU (2-4), Randolph (1-5) @ W&L (5-1), LC (2-4) @ E&H (6-0), and VWU (4-2) @ BC (3-3).

With the way these conference records are so far we can probably legitimately consider wins by HSC over RMC, Randolph over W&L, or LC over E&H to be upsets if one or more of those happens -- especially given that the teams with the better records are the home teams. If RMC and E&H both win today/tomorrow that means the winner of the game between them at E&H on Saturday will leave one of them alone in first.

What were the players actions? I assume these actions are why they were suspended or sitting out of the games? Thanks in advance!

James R. Wilkins, Jr. Athletics & Events Center Opening Announced

Shenandoah University announced Thursday that the James. R. Wilkins, Jr. Athletics & Events Center will host its first games on Wednesday, January 31. Shenandoah University announced Thursday that the James. R. Wilkins, Jr. Athletics & Events Center will host its first games on Wednesday, January 31.

Jan 18, 2018

WINCHESTER, Va. - Shenandoah University Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Bridget Lyons, Ph.D., announced Thursday that the university will host its inaugural basketball games in the James R. Wilkins, Jr. Athletics & Events Center at the end of the month.

Construction video ... http://www.suhornets.com/general/2017-18/videos/AEC_November_Update_v2?list=/video/index

Starting with the men's/women's doubleheader on Wednesday, Jan. 31, the Hornets basketball teams will host a total of seven games in the 77,000-square-foot facility to finish out the regular season.

A second doubleheader, slated for Saturday, Feb. 10, is senior day for both the men and women. In between the 2 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. contests, the athletics department will dedicate the playing court the memory of former Shenandoah University Athletics Director/Head Men's Basketball Coach Dave Dutton and his wife, Kathy.

Dutton led the men's basketball team to the NCAA Tournament three times in his coaching tenure from 1988-2000, while Kathy Dutton founded the university's former dance team, the "Sensations."

As AD, Dutton presided over a department that entered the Dixie Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (now the USA South), added six sports (men's and women's cross country, football, men's and women's lacrosse and women's soccer) and oversaw the construction of Shentel Stadium and Aikens Athletic Center.

Both Duttons passed away in 2001, Kathy after a one-year battle with cancer and Dave from a heart attack one month after Kathy's death.

The university invites all former student-athletes who played for Dave Dutton, all former members of the "Sensations" and all Wilkins Athletics & Events Center donors to a ribbon cutting ceremony beginning at 12:30 p.m. on Feb. 10, in the building's lobby, as well as the court dedication ceremony.

Also that day, from 12:45 p.m. until the tip-off of the 2 p.m. men's game, the university will hold a reception for all attendees of both ceremonies. This reception is slated to be held inside the curtains on the north end of the field house.

The facility, located immediately south of Sprint Field at Shentel Stadium, had its occupancy permit issued in early January.

Last week, the women's basketball team, along with the indoor track & field programs, moved into their locker rooms in the facility and began using the field house for practice. The men's basketball team will be moving into the facility full-time following its home game this coming Wednesday versus Bridgewater.

The university plans to make the 200-meter indoor track available for public use on a limited basis in the near future.

"We are so excited to be hosting our first games on January 31," Dr. Lyons said. "This facility is amazing, and we can't wait to show it off to our fans here in the northern Shenandoah Valley."

Admission is free to all of the above events. This includes all regular season men's and women's basketball games through Feb. 14.

Roanoke loses at home to Guilford tonight 77-65. The game was close until around the 6 minute mark in the first half when Guilford went on a big run to end the first half. Roanoke just got dominated at every position tonight, hopefully they can turn it around when they play at Bridgewater  :o on Saturday.
