In non-conference games last njght GC, W&L, EMU and Randolph get wins while VWU and BC lose. In the only conference game R-MC beats Ferrum.

It took about 10 minutes to find their groove, but Guilford handled Averett with ease in Danville last night, 75-56.  Balanced scoring with four Quakers in double figures and a better inside game were keys.  In addition, GC dominated AU on threes 11/25 to 3/22.  If Guilford had learned sooner how to handle the press and cut down on turnovers, they really ought to be 5-0.  A 73-72 loss to Greensboro where they lost a 15-point second half lead and a 79-77 loss at Mary Washington with 23 turnovers really hurt.  I see this team being a player in this year's ODAC race.  Go Quakers!

Impressive 94-74 win for R-MC at #18 Emory. The announcer said it is the first loss for Emory at home to a non-UAA team since November 2012. I was very curious as to how this game would go since I first knew it was scheduled. Emory was really good last season, but graduated a lot of talent, yet had a number of good players returning. So they are a bit younger than the Jackets, who have four very experienced seniors, three of whom start. I think R-MC's experience showed today. They stayed poised in spite of foul trouble for a number of players. Jackets now 7-0. This win gives those who vote on the top 25 a lot to think about.

Just checked other scores from today. Ferrum beat Averett by 2. The other five games were all in conference contests --Lynchburg over EMU by 15, Randolph over  Bridgewater by 1, E&H over Shennandoah by 28, VW over GC by 3, and Roanoke over H-SC by 45 (not a typo).

I watched that Roanoke game.  HSC played hard but couldn't score.  The score got ran up with 8 minutes left in the contest.  E & H and RMC are looking like the top 2 teams in the ODAC so far this year.

In the pre-season top 25 a total of 55 teams received votes but R-MC wasn't among them. In the Week 1 poll (the first one since games have been played) the Jackets are #17. E&H, which got a few votes (3 points) in the pre-season poll received 28 points in the ORV group this week. I must say I expected to see R-MC get significant recognition, but am surprised at how much. Also surprised at the separation between the Jackets and E&H, though I must admit to not know much about relative strength of schedule. R-MC's 20 point win at Emory yesterday must have carried a lot of weight.

Roanoke also received 3 points in the voting.

R-MC and CNU look to be on a collision course...the Captains do have to get by Lynchburg first, though, which will likely be a tough game.

If you guys are coming to the R-MC/CNU game on 12/8 in Newport News, let me know...I know Coach Hellyer from his days at Tidewater Academy...would be good to see him.

how in the hell does RC beat HSC by that margin ?
How did HSC fall from where it once was to the bottom of the odac in a relatively short period of time? Embarrassing to put it mildly. No way you can put a good spin on that result. Here is to hoping Tigers get better.

Roanoke squeaked by Southern Virginia University 79-76 yesterday.  Roanoke was up the whole game but could never pull away.  At this point Roanoke is playing very inconsistent (W and L beat SVU by 20). Southern Virginia was a little better than Hampden Sydney and there's no way we should've only won this by 3.  I still think RMC and E and H are the top dogs in the conference.  Washington and Lee is also looking good as well as they beat a good Mary Washington team by almost 30 at home on Monday.

Yep, tonight will be a tough test for the Jackets as they host W&L.

Tough test and W&L basketball are words I could get used to seeing. It's been a rare thing for most of my 20+ year association with W&L...
