Roanoke blows out Frostburg St (Who last lost to Longwood University by 2 in OT) 90-68.  This was the best overall game that Roanoke has played this year and they were up by 22 at half.  Roanoke plays against Mary Washington University tomorrow.

Doubleheader today at Guilford College's Ragan-Brown Fieldhouse:

Lynchburg (10-1) earned a hard-fought 75-66 win over a scrappy Muskingum (5-6) team in the opener.  The Muskies scored the last ten points of the first half to trail 30-29 and actually led 63-62 with a few minutes to go.  The Hornets pulled away in the waning moments for the 9-point win.  I attribute much of the difference to slightly better three-point shooting, a 47-36 rebounding edge and more free throw attempts.

In the nightcap, Guilford (7-4) put a pretty thorough 82-58 beatdown on Greensboro (1-9) to avenge a 1-point loss to the Pride in the home opener.  Four Quakers in double figures and a 50-29 rebounding edge were the keys to the victory.  Fourth straight win for the Quakers.

The two ODAC squads switch opponents on Sunday with UL/GCP tipping off at 2 and GCQ/MU around 4.

R-MC downs Drew 80-54. Great defense, rebounding and shooting percentage by the Jackets made it tough for Drew to be in the game. After an 8-8 tie the Jackets went on a 13-0 run and never looked back. The 49-22 rebounding edge is the most impressive stat. Drew had hit 21 three pointers yesterday against Stockton, but made only 5 of 17 today. Except for 17 turnovers and 6 of 12 free throws, a solid all around game for the Jackets.

Conference play the rest of the way is going to be tough, starting with road games at VWU Thursday and GC Saturday.

Roanoke beat a pretty good Mary Washington team today 83-67. The game was close until the 5 minute mark in the second half when Roanoke went on a run to open it up.  Roanoke has played very well the last two games, but what concerns me is this was at home.  Roanoke hasn't played that many games away yet and I'm curious how they're going to handle their next game at Washington and Lee.

Another doubleheader today at Guilford College's Ragan-Brown Fieldhouse:

Lynchburg (11-1) fought off a Greensboro (1-10) comeback to win 82-74.  The Hornets looked as though they were going to sting the Pride early and led 57-34 at the half.  GCP cut a 25-point second-half deficit to 69-64, but just didn't have enough depth and shooting luck to pull it off.  Four players in double figures for UL and five for GCP.

In the nightcap, Guilford (8-4) hung on for an 82-78 overtime win over Muskingum (5-7).  The Quakers jumped out to a 17-0 lead and led 33-21 at the half, but the Muskies won the second half and led late.  An apparent late block called a foul on a three-point attempt gave MU three shots to tie at 68 in regulation.  A close, back and forth finish with GCQ corralling rebounds and hitting FTs down the stretch,  Four players in double figures for both teams and a close 40-38 rebounding edge for the Quakers.  Fifth straight win for Guilford heading into full-time ODAC play.

They did a good job keeping Cronin contained, relatively speaking.

Good win for Roanoke

Just noticed that on Sunday H-SC lost 78-72 to MacMurray, a very small school in Jacksonville, IL that plays in the SLIAC (Saint Louis IAC). I saw MacMurray play on Dec. 8th. They lost 79-63 to Webster, but I liked the way they played and thought they could compete with H-SC, given the season the Tigers are having. Then I completely forgot about the game. When an ODAC team loses to a SLIAC team it's says something about the state of the ODAC team's program.

Roanoke loses to Washington and Lee 67-71.  Roanoke was down 7 by half and came out horrible in the second half.  RC got down by as many as 17 before making a late rally and getting the lead down to 3 points with under a minute left.  W and L hit free throws from there on out to win the game.  Washington and Lee is a good team who hit some tough shots, but I will say RC came out not ready to play in the second half.

Good point. How about the 36 point beat down HSC took from Hood College yesterday. Sounds like HSC is clearly at or near the bottom of ODAC basketball.
Baring some sort of a miracle, there seems to be no hope for HSC basketball this year.

Continued good luck to your Jackets and the rest of the ODAC. I'll be watching the ODAC race from the sidelines again this year. Hopefully the Tigers program will return to the point of being competitive. Fingers crossed.

RMC Jackets are outmuscled in the first half by a hot shooting VWC MARLINS team but come back BIG in the 2nd half to pull it out 72-67 in the Fish Tank!! GO JACKETS!

I was only able to watch the final six minutes. VWU was up 65-61 at that point, so the Jackets held the Marlins to two points the rest of the game and scored 10 points in the final 3:45 after trailing 67-62. At 67-67 a crucial VWU turnover may have been the thing that did them in as Corey Bays hit a three seconds later to give the Jackets the lead.

We got out-rebounded and looked a little tentative in the first half( actually we were out-rebounded for the game by one or two) but we only had 4 turnovers for the entire game and points off turnovers were HEAVY in our favor. They were more physical than us the first half and the refs were letting them play( but it was a fairly called game both ways I thought) which we adjusted to- plus i thought the officiating was a little tighter both ways in the 2nd half. As hot as the Marlins were the first half and we were cold it reversed in the 2nd half and we were fortunate to pull this one out. I didn't go but watched the feed on my pc but it looked like a much sparser crowd than the usual VWC rowdy crowd- don't know why but it looked  empty....
