Too cold for townie's cars to start, and too cold for on-campus students to walk.  It's BS, but it's my story and I'm, sticking to it.
Same at a lot of DIII schools now ... too many electronic devices and ESPN offerings to walk 500 yards to watch live sports.

so why did NCAA pick UWO to host if they do not draw a crowd ? 600 people in a 5600 arena is like playing in front of an empty house.
Low attendance should improve on GC chances. Give 'em hell Quakers.

Number 4 ranking and travel distances, I guess.  Theologically, Quakers are not known for giving anyone hell, but, athletically, we can be hoop demons.  Thanks.

This is true and I also think it's a stigma that D3 sports get sometimes (in the past 5-10 years it has seemed to have gotten worse).  I've had kids I've known that could've been a really good D3 player that don't get any other looks.  They settle on ending their career in high school because in their words "D3 sucks".

Because filling a gym isn't really NCAA criteria. Selling tickets doesn't cover extra travel expenses.

Not actually true. Attendance and ticket sales are absolutely part of the criteria ... along with other things. And the committee is always hopeful fans will turn out ... as it could help offset the costs of what was one of the more national tournament in recent memory. If those costs aren't offset, we may not get to see as much travel moving forward.

But attendance and tickets isn't the only driving force. The committee will want to give institutions the opportunity to host if they have it. They can just go somewhere else if they feel attendance wise it might be a better decision.

FWIW I think you are both right. They are listed on the criteria, but not really used.

History hasn't really suggested that in the past. UWO was fourth in the WIAC in home attendance this year, averaging 526 fans. So, we'll see but I am not holding my breath.
Thanks.  I see your point.  I guess I assumed more people would turn out for a Sweet 16 game at a relatively large DIII school playing on its own campus.

Not completely impossible but a ten-fold increase seems unlikely.

Well... I didn't even know it was part of the criteria, so I concede the point in favor of learning something new!
