I hear deposits are low at this point compared to recent years .... and they should be based on cost to attend

They dick around too much with accepting some of the students who aren't amazing applicants but are good enough to hack it at H-SC if they aren't screwups, and then the financial aid they are offered is almost always worse than just about any other ODAC institution. Combine that with all-male, location, and cost (among other things), and it doesn't surprise me.

They, as well as most other small private schools, are really going to be hurting the next time a big recession comes around, that would leave the Millennial generation reeling when they are still recovering from the last big recession and then leaving the Gen Z generation reeling from it. Those are the two generations that before long are going to be producing all the college graduates for the next few decades.

I believe college applications are down country wide

HSC will make an announcement as early as today regarding new b'ball coach. I do not know who the lucky person is but he better hit the ground running.
It's not going to be Aaron Toomey. He was offered the job but turned it down after Amherst doubled his salary and named him head coach in waiting.

I know with 99% certainty who it's going to be. I won't say it though because I don't know if background checks and all the red tape that can hold up a hire have gone through yet.

scott - normally I wouldn't think anything you wrote wasn't accurate, but I know for a fact this post is completely inaccurate. Well nearly inaccurate.

First off, this post resulted in me getting some individuals reaching out to me to correct the information. I am sorry it took me this long. I have been busy with other things including my health.

Here is what I know:
- Aaron did NOT get a raise other than a usual small "bump" anyone would get on a yearly basis.
- Aaron did apparently have a serious conversation with HSU about the job, but was NEVER given a former offer ... thus he didn't really turn anything down. That said, I am told it "didn't fit everything he wanted and/or what they wanted or needed."

Now to the "coach in waiting" stuff per Amherst - it is categorically false. If and when Dave Hixon retires, there will be a national search. NO ONE is a "coaching in waiting" including Aaron Toomey. Furthermore, anyone who believes that would be true I don't think does some basic thinking on the topic. Think about the number of assistant coaches who served under Hixon and now are head coaches, some at some very good schools and doing very well. Does anyone really think Toomey would be the "coach in waiting" over others who might be interested in the job? Let's name a handful of former assistants who are head coaches who might be interested: Luke Flockerzi, Kevin Hopkins, Matt Goldsmith, Adam Hutchinson. That is just off the top of my head and I know I am missing coaches.

There is no way Amherst is handing the program to Toomey right now. IMO, Toomey is going to need to find a head coaching job and be successful with it if he wants to be a contender for that job. I just can't see Toomey getting the job over any former assistant who has been a successful head coach - unless every single one of them is not interested in the job. This is similar to the rumors last year of Dane Fischer being the front runner at WashU. It didn't make sense anytime it kept being posted by other entities.

He was just hired at W&M....

WHO was just hired at W&M?  You're speaking of Toomey?  To work under Fischer?:   https://pilotonline.com/sports/college/elsewhere/basketball/article_16b02462-556d-11e9-bf5e-e362e769cf4a.html

I was referring to Fischer...since Dave mentioned his name, I figured I'd comment.

Yep ... nice to see the facts of his next job were finally ... factual. :)

Per scotth, I appreciate his comments. As he mentioned, we talked privately. I have seen the evidence of the story and my feeling is ... it was spun to maybe make the situation look better(?). Not really sure why since in this day in age things are so easily disproven (if one cares enough to research things). It is just too bad the story went in that direction. It sours Kimbrough's decision (if he decides to take the HSC job).

Anyone have a bit more info on Kimborough?  Interested in hiring a guy with a losing record, but it appears his 24-27 record the previous 2 seasons is more wins than Huntingdon had in the previous 4 combined.....plus 13 wins this year being the most they have had in a decade......but just trying to understand what we might see from Tiger Basketball in the immediate future.

until he has time to recruit talent I don't think Tigers will improve much record wise but I think you will see a well prepared team, playing very hard on every single set, better bench decisions, better, much better player coach relationships.

Don't let the record at Huntingdon sway you.  He was hired as an assistant at Huntingdon in 2016 with the understanding that he would be the HC in a year when the then HC retired.  However, he inherited an 0-10 team when his predecessor abruptly left in mid-year.  He finished that season 2-13, but his records the next two years at Huntingdon were great by their historical standards.  He was a winner in HS at Chapel Hill, at Guilford and paid his dues for a year with the Washington Generals, a year as an assistant at W&L, six years as an assistant to Tom Palombo at Guilford and the last three seasons at Huntingdon.  He made the NCAA tournament his last two seasons at Guilford and was a middle school through college teammate with former National POY Ben Strong.  His career overlapped for two seasons with former National POY and current Ferrum HC Tyler Sanborn.  I think HSC made a fine choice.

Huntingdon improved dramatically under his watch. Looks like their 13 wins this year is the most they have had since the 2005-06 season when they won 20. My understanding is he runs the same type of stuff you see Guilford run, which is pretty understandable given his history.

Kimbrough was the point guard on the Guilford team that made it to the NCAA Elite 8 in 2007.

As a freshman in 2005, he appeared in this video (#13) that has been viewed more than 11 million times ....  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cMV_gvBwL1g

And now over eleven million and one ... and I'm probably 99 of those hits.  It never gets old for Guilford fans.  Thank you, Jordan Snipes!  Another amazing thing about this:  he recreated it for a local TV crew back in Greensboro ... on the first try!
