Eastern Mennonite lost to Averett in Overtime.

Macon

RMC up 33 (51-18) over St. Mary's at the half.  Jackets looking strong in this early season.

Macon

Jackets win by 44, playing mainly subs in the second half.  Five players in double figures, balanced scoring.

Tough (for both teams!) Top 25 opener tomorrow with #6 Emory at #19 Guilford.  The Quakers sometimes start slow, but I hope tomorrow's game will be topnotch.  Go Quakers!
A 22 point loss at home seems excessive, even against a #6.  Hasa, any insight?

That was a pretty easy win, as was the win yesterday over Washington College. Neither of those teams has had good records in recent years. Today for the Jackets -- Corey Bays with a double double -- 18 points (6-11 from three) and 11 rebounds.

Other ODAC games today -- W&L beats William Peace and Roanoke loses to Methodist.

Roanoke was in control of the game in the first quarter up by 8 and then in the last 2 minutes Methodist went on a huge run to go up 2 at half.  After that it went back and forth and Methodist kept a lead with 5 minutes left. RC is what I expected, hopefully we can get better, but I think we'll end up middle of the pack this year at best.

Washington College finished 4th in the Centennial last year.  They're in line for similar results this season.  Winning wasn't a surprise for RMC, but winning in that fashion was very impressive.

^^^ Yes, I was a bit surprised at how easily R-MC won both those games. I give Coach Merkle a lot of credit for the way he has used his players the past few seasons so that, even with the losses to graduation after last season, the guys really seem to know each other and play well together and the two freshmen (Talbert and Mallory) who are seeing the most action appear to fit in very well. St. Mary's was playing zone, something that seemed to trouble the Jackets last season, but was no problem today. Now, they are likely to face some tougher zones as the season goes on, so today's experience will be beneficial.

#18910
ODAC goes 2 for 3 last night with wins by Randolph over SVU and VWU over William Peace. SU, BC and EMU all lose by a bunch.

The BC game was against Radford and was an exhibition for the Eagles but a regular season game for Radford.

Shenandoah 17, James Madison 12 with just over 10 minutes left until half.

Guilford 87, Greensboro 75.  I caught part of the 2nd half from about the 13 minute mark to the 4 minute mark. Kind of hard to tell much because of the camera placement. When I tuned in Guilford was up by six. They pushed it to about 18 then apparently gave a little back at the end. Hopefully hasanova was there and can give us a good report. The box score shows non-starter Tyler Dearman with 24 points and impressive shooting percentages plus 8 rebounds in 22 minutes of action.

Well, it was a bigger deficit than I hoped, but Guilford usually starts slow and is not particularly adept at defending a great 3-point shooting team, which Emory clearly was.  I think both teams belong in the Top 25, but Emory certainly earned their #6 preseason ranking.  GC was working two new starters into the lineup and several first year players ... I think we will be ok.
