R-MC 81, Randolph 48. The point differential makes it seem like this was an easier win than it felt like to me. Seems that Randolph's main problem is shooting. They run a good offense and get open looks but miss too many jump shots. Not taking anything away from the Jackets, who kept doing what they do until the game was out of reach for Randolph and they seemed to get discouraged and stopped executing well.

In other ODAC games: W&L over H-SC, Lynchburg over Bridgewater, VWU over Ferum.

In non-conference games: SU downs Gallaudet while Roanoke loses to Averett.

In reference to the Roanoke game...man was it frustrating to watch as a RC fan.  Roanoke would be up 8-10 points and then Averett would charge right back and tie it up.  You had the feeling the entire time that Averett would make a run to win the game and it happened. Roanoke right now doesn't really have anyone to go to when they need a score and they kind of freak out and make dumb mistakes when the game is close.  Hopefully we can figure this out before conference play opens up for them.

Which is Wednesday night vs Guilford.

Some interesting non-conference games tonight: SU at home vs Marymount, VWU at Mary Washington, H-SC at St. Mary's.

Conference games: Guilford at Roanoke, Lynchburg at Ferrum, Randolph at W&L, and R-MC plays its first game of the season in Crenshaw vs Bridgewater.

Did not realize RMC had been on the road until now.  Conversely, Guilford's game on Saturday at EMU was their first true road game ... the game vs Greensboro was technically the Pride's home game, but games at the Greensboro Coliseum are essentially a home game for the Quakers.

^^^ Was the Greensboro Coliseum a neutral court for both teams or is that where Greensboro College plays its home games? If neutral, is it just as much of a home game for Greensboro, or does Guilford draw a better crowd?

Surprise score of the night has to be Randolph 89 - W&L 68. That game was at W&L.

Guilford over Roanoke, Ferrum over Lynchburg, R- MC over Bridhewater. No surprises there.

In the non-conference games ODAC teams take 2 of 3 --  VWU over Mary Washington and H-SC over St. Mary's. SU loses to Marymount

Guilford and Roanoke was close until about 9 minutes left in the game. Guilford was just way more physical and absolutely killed us on the offensive glass.  Points in the paint had GC with 48 and RC with 20. So far the ODAC has been what I've expected, RMC and Guilford are at top with VWU a pretty close 3rd. After the top 3 it seems like everyone is beating everyone with no consistency so far.

A game located in ones own city is not supposed to be considered a neutral site game.

According to Guilford's site, it was an away game.  Greensboro was the home team at the Coliseum, but Guilford usually has more fans.  The Pride plays almost all their games at their on-campus Hanes Gym, but every fourth year the Guilford/Greensboro game is at the Greensboro Coliseum as a GCP home game.  Of the four year cycle, two are at Guilford, one in the Pride's gym and one at the coliseum.

The team stat that stood out to me was GC 48 to 24 over RC in rebounds.  Guilford Senior Forward Kyler Gregory had a double double with 28 points and 12 boards (12/19 FGs and 4/4 FTs) ... he will probably be 1st Team ODAC.  GCQ also hit 11/11 FTs ... a rare feat for a team that sometimes struggles at the line.  RC's start of 5/6 threes had me worried, but they finished 8/22.

I just took a close look at the box score and play-by-play of last night's R-MC-Bridgewater game as I wanted to check one specific thing. BC scored 25 points in the first half, then scored 25 points in the first 11:15 of the second half, but only five points in the final 8:45. Those first 11+ minutes of the 2nd half show what they are capable of, they just have to do it for an entire game.

On another note, Jacket freshman Josh Talbert did not miss a shot last night, going 9-9 from the field (mostly driving layups, but also one 3 pointer) and 3-3 from the line for 22 points. That would seem to be a pretty rare feat. I know of one time a player out here in Saint Louis scored 20 points without missing a field goal (including a couple of 3 pointers) or free throw.

Personally, I think Ferrum over Lynchburg is a bit of a surprise.

Yes, I wasn't sure about that one. I checked their records and didn't see anything that suggested a huge upset. But "bit of a surprise" is certainly possible.
