Just because I found it interesting, seatfiller... when you said "in other ODAC news" and then lede with SVU, who isn't in the ODAC, losing to VWU, who is in the ODAC, and not that VWU beat SVU... it jumped out at me.

Just a humorous observation.

Haha didn't even realize I did it. Just heard that Roanoke's next 2 games have been cancelled (Randolph and RMC). Not going to lie after the big win at Guilford I was excited to see where we stack up compared to RMC.  I'm not understanding the COVID protocols since Roanoke plays literally the next day against Southern Virginia, when we were supposed to play at RMC the day before.

On Feb 5th R-MC announced that athletics were "on pause" due to COVID-19 protocols. Originally that was to last through 2/13 but I'm guessing it could have been extended. If so, that would explain why Roanoke isn't traveling to R-MC on Sunday.

Thanks for the clarification.  Big announcement today from the odac regarding the odac basketball championship https://www.odaconline.com/general/2020-21/releases/20210219g6q393

To sum it up all active teams at the end of the season will be allowed to play in the odac tourney. I like this a lot better than the 4 team odac tourney that had been planned.

Yep. You might as well let them all play. Very few will get anywhere near a normal number of games. Plus, with such a small sample size and a whole lot of missing player variables, letting everyone play at least allows us to try and figure out who the best team is at the end of the season. Such a mess. I'm glad the players got something, but this is far from optimal.

Yeah they decided on expanding not long after the NCAA nixed the national tournament. Would have stayed at 4 to fit it in before the selections if it hadn't been cancelled. Was only the right thing to do given the imbalance in schedules. Now here's to hoping none of the teams have to miss an ODAC Tournament game because of COVID.

Would have to think with all the cancellations that some of these teams have come pretty close to the whole team having it at this point, like H-SC has already had three COVID suspensions if you count preseason.

Just checked at this point Guilford has the rest of their games for this season cancelled. I'm wondering if they're going to play in the tourney.

Before they expanded the tournament, the requirement was four games. Don't know if that requirement exists anymore. If it does, then Guilford would be eligible. Would be a shame if so, Liam Ward, though in a small sample size, was having an ODAC player of the Year caliber season.

thescottharris

Well H-SC's season is over, all regular season games canceled and not participating in the ODAC Tournament. Can't say I'm surprised. Something clearly isn't working over there given they have had at least three COVID pauses since returning from winter break.

thescottharris

Guilford is done and will not play in the ODAC Tournament.

Wow that's a big disappointment. They looked to be pretty good. At this point we might only have 4 teams in the odac tourney.  In yesterday news:

VA Wesleyan won at Ferrum on a buzzard beater 3, 84-83

EMU got a win at Emory and Henry in a close one 75-73

Lynchburg beat Randolph 82-77

And Lynchburg is back on a COVID pause effective today. First ODAC Tournament game is March 4, so going to be cutting it tight if they are in the first round...

Macon

RMC wins by 31 over BC.  Seems that Buzz Anthony will be back next year for a fifth year.  As well as David Funderburg.  RMC will lose one senior in Woods (as he was the only one to be recognized on Senior Night).

Hooray the best player in the conference who's not on my team is coming back for another year. In other odac news from yesterday:

Shenandoah lost at EMU 67-79

Randolph got blown out at W and L 65-86

So anyone please correct me if I'm wrong but right now these are the teams that will participate in the odac tourney as of today:

Bridgewater
Emory and Henry
EMU
Ferrum
Randolph
Randolph Macon
Roanoke
Shenandoah
VA Wesleyan

Seedings are going to be strange to say the least. Right now you'd have Roanoke in 1st only because they played more games than #2 Randolph Macon.

Macon

Yes, Buzz at RMC for another year is good news to RMC fans.  Also, I like Funderburg's positive attitude and energy on and off the court, so glad to see him for another year as well.  Congrats to senior Lorenzo Woods for four great years at RMC.  He's headed to graduate school in Accounting.

There is so much depth and balance on this RMC squad, I'm not sure how coaches defend them.  It's got to be a huge challenge.  Because of that, Buzz doesn't have to carry the team.  Additionally, a number of freshmen are contributing a lot of minutes as well.   RMC has numerous options at guard and wings, another inside big body (supplementing Mallory and Fundie) is the only luxury that RMC is missing.

I was wondering why Woods was the only senior recognized. That should make R-MC REALLY good next season. Overall not the cleanest game for the Jackets last night. That quick start and large early lead obviously made it possible for a number of freshmen to get in early in the game for a decent number of minutes. Not many teams have two players like Mallory and Funderburg, so if the Jackets can get a third such player it would be a real luxury.

W&L (at least it hasn't been announced on their website) and Lynchburg haven't pulled out of the tournament yet, only Guilford and Hampden-Sydney. I would think I would have been informed by now if Lynchburg had since I have been working all their home games.
