I was told by the Lynchburg SID as of last night they still intend to play in the tournament

Saturday's R-MC game at W&L has been canceled. (Don't know what that means re W&L playing in the tournament.) In place of that game the Jackets go to VWU tonight then play the Marlins again on Sunday in Ashland.

thescottharris

And W&L is out.

So that means if the ODAC sticks with their minimum games rule for top four seeds then either E&H or Shenandoah will be the 4 and both are winless.

And for the record the rule is 50% of the games of the team worth the most games played. Ferrum will have 9 played, so 4.5, which rounds up to five. The only four teams who will meet that threshold are Roanoke, Ferrum, Bridgewater, Shenandoah, and Emory & Henry.

Bridgewater will have to win at Roanoke tomorrow to avoid having the #3 seed also having a losing record.

I don't know if they can change the rule at this point but it's just a bad look to have your #4 seed having a winless record and the #3 likely with a losing record.

thescottharris

At this point they might as well just seed 1-9 based on win percentage then have an 8/9 playin game.

Just checked and saw that there's a big game tonight between what I would say is the #1 and #2 in the conference

Randolph Macon travels to VA Wesleyan today for a 6pm show down

Also they play twice to finish out the season. Neither is a conference game despite them having not played each other yet.

A tough, physical win at VWU.  Simply watching the game, it felt like a much closer game than the score indicates.  Will be interesting to see the rematch tomorrow in Ashland.

thescottharris

So the rule for minimum games rounds down, so a team needs 4, not 5, games to qualify for the top 4.

And I noticed that last night's RMC/VWU game has been marked a conference game after the fact. The rule has been all season that conference games postponed because of COVID can't be made up. Unless that rule has been changed during the middle of the season...

Pat Coleman

That marking was changed by one of the participating schools, rather than the conference office, so it might not be correct.

Thanks.

Today Roanoke had a impressive win today against Bridgewater 84-41. Roanoke held Bridgewater to 6 points almost 10 minutes into the game. The conference tourney rankings come out tomorrow. Does anyone know how they're picking the rankings?

Seeds 1-4: must have played at least four conference games, seeded by win %
Seeds 5-9: random draw is what I was told. So who knows. Things are going to be crazy. Not sure there is really a fair way to do it given the lack of balance in the schedules

So...
#1 - Roanoke
#2 - Ferrum
#3 - Lynchburg
#4 - Bridgewater
#5-9 - pick a random order of R-MC, VWU, EMU, E&H, and SU

Macon and VWU won't have four conference games as their game yesterday wasn't a conference game, so that needs to be corrected on the ODAC standings. They'll each only have three ODAC games so won't qualify for the top for.

W&L would have had enough games and a good enough win % to be the #2 but they are done for the year.

E&H and SU have 7 games apiece to be eligible for top four but have the worst win % in the league.

Not sure what the format is going to be. It's a fluid situation. My best educated guess would be an 8/9 play-in game then having four quarterfinal games.

Thank you for checking. I didn't want to hound JJ with questions this week!
