Both VWU and Randolph lose on final seconds three pointers. The Marlins missed a free throw that would have given them a one point lead, Pfeiffer got the rebound, went the length of the floor and hit a true buzzer beater from the top of the 3 point arc to win 67-64. Randolph was up one over Mary Washington. After a time out the Eagles inbounded with 18 seconds left and nailed a three from  the corner with about 4 seconds left. Randolph missed a last second shot. Final was 78-76. Two tough losses for the ODAC.

Lynchburg downed CNU this afternoon 83-66. I watched most of the 2nd half. CNU just seemed sluggish. Their coach got two technicals so had to leave the floor. U of L has a junior transfer guard from D2 Barton, Cameron Savage, who had a great game with 20 points an 4 assists.

I wasn't able to watch most of R-MC at Marietta yesterday but was able to keep my eye on the score. Jackets started out well and had an 18-8 lead after 7 1/2 minutes, then only managed to score five points the rest of the half and trailed 24-23 at halftime. The second half was a different story for both teams, with R-MC outscoring Marietta 59-50 for a final of 82-74.
The Lynchburg defense was pretty smothering in the first half, Captains only scored two field goals in the first eight minutes and Lynchburg led by as much as 17, 25-8, with just a little under 11 minutes played.

Curiously, Dow Dunton, who was a starter and a high quality rebounder last year, played only two minutes in the game and got yanked after committing two fouls. He's only played a total of 17 minutes in three games. Lynchburg had some difficulty defensive rebounding in the CNU game so was especially a bit of an eyebrow raiser to see him be essentially eliminated from the rotation at the moment.

Noticed in the Royals game, Aviwe Mahlong went off for 22 points including 6-9 three pointers.  He was a star on Eastern Mennonite High Schools team that made deep runs in the state playoffs in the two years the South African was in Harrisonburg.  Was on a full ride to DII Millersville last season, but no record of him having played.  Not sure what brings him back to the Valley, but seems like he will be a part of EMUs efforts for sure

Big win for Roanoke against Bridgewater yesterday 83-58.  Roanoke has their biggest test on the young season as they play Randolph Macon on Saturday.

Roanoke did not pass their test last Saturday losing at home to RMC 62-50.  The score was not as close as that may seem.  Roanoke still has a long way to go before being on RMC's level.

Macon

An interesting note about the RMC loss to CNU.  Josh Talbert did not play, not sure why.  He's the #3 scorer on the team, averaging 10 pts per game.  Buzz and Miles did all they could in that game, having Josh may have changed the outcome.  Glad to see he's returned to all games since, actually he was the lead RMC scorer in the Roanoke game.

^^^Definitely important for the Jackets to get offensive production from more than just Mallory and Anthony.

Macon

^^^Still early, but there seems to be four teams that are clearly much better than the rest.  RMC is the most battle tested, having already beaten 4 ranked teams.  HSC's game with CNU next week will give some indication if HSC is for real or not.  UL may be a team to watch.

Interesting statistical coincidence. On Sunday Lynchburg lost to Christopher Newport 79-74. On Tuesday H-SC lost to CNU by the identical score. To the extent that it could be a factor, the Lynchburg game was at CNU, while the H-SC game was at H-SC.

H-SC with a nice win today that gives a bit more of a gauge for where they could stand in the ODAC. Beat Mary Washington 84-71, their biggest margin of defeat this season. Led by double digits or near double digits for most of the second half.

UMW's other ODAC results, which IMO shows that Mary Washington would likely be an ODAC Championship contender.
vs. EMU W, 80-57 (H-SC won at home 79-52)
at VA Wesleyan W, 71-58
at Randolph W, 78-76
vs. Lynchburg W, 68-65
vs. Bridgewater W, 80-65
at Randolph-Macon L, 57-53

H-SC loses by 1, 85-84, to #23 Maryville in a game in which the Tigers shot 21-36 on the foul line.

R-MC over Gettysburg 77-57. A double-double (11 pts, 10 rebs) for David Funderburg and a career high 26 points for Josh Talbert, going 12 of 17 from the floor. Jackets definitely looked "off" after 25 days without a game, especially playing without Buzz Anthony and Ian Robertson. Leading 45-43 with about 11:30 remaining, R-MC put together a couple of runs to secure the win.
