The-person-known-on-these-boards as KnightSlappy and I launched a D3 basketball youtube show last month (link in the sig) and one of the topics we discussed for this time leading up to the new season is a D3 basketball bucket list. We have been trying to solicit feedback for that via the YT channel and twitter but wanted to put out the call here as well as we know not everyone is connected on those platforms.

We got started with a few items of our own and some feedback from others already but are looking for as much input to consider as possible. If you have a game, venue, event, etc. you think is essential bucket list material for any D3 basketball fan please send me a private message this week and we will be sure to add it to the list. Thanks!

R-MC roster: https://www.rmcathletics.com/sports/mbkb/2022-23/roster

Eight freshmen to go with nine returners. Hard to get meaningful info on most of the freshmen, but two guards (#3 Keishawn Pulley Jr and #30 Amr Areikat) look to be solid players.

I think there will be several solid contributors in this RMC freshmen class including the two you mentioned.  One noticeable omission is overall height in this class and across the whole roster.  I remember a day (many years ago) where RMC would have 3 or 4 players 6-7 and taller.  But, then again, a national championship was won with a front line of 6-3, 6-4, and 6-5.  It's going to be interesting to see how this team performs.  There's a very large target on their back, every team wants to beat the defending champs.

^^^ Well, last season Funderberg started 26 games and averaged 15.8 mpg (7th on the roster) and Robertson averaged 17.1 mpg (5th/6th on the roster -- identical to Coble) though started only three games. Both those guys were listed as 6' 7". But you are right that the bulk of the minutes went to guys 6' 5" or under. Height this season could be an issue with the tallest player (a freshman) listed as 6'6".

You are correct about Funderberg and Robertson, they added height when needed.  Also, Norton and Keasey aren't on the roster.

Also Ben Cerrato, who was off the roster midway through last season, is not back.

Remember the name Kyle Keener!! Gonna be a solid performer at the point for our Jackets!! I also saw Keyshawn Pulley at a number of our games last year..... he should contribute early, also!!

ODAC teams went 2-5 on opening night tonight. Winners were Shenandoah and Guilford. Losers were Ferrum, Lynchburg, H-SC, Randolph, and Bridgewater.

Not a good start for my squads.

Lynchburg got humiliated at home in one of the worst shooting performances they've ever had. They only gave non-garbage time minutes to one freshman on a team that lost 5 of its top 7 players, in terms of minutes played, from last year's team. Going to be a rough year for them.

Meanwhile Hampden-Sydney gave up 54 second-half points to Greensboro and H-SC seems to be fairly lacking in three point shooting with three guys starting who aren't shooters.

Likewise, I was surprised by some of these games, especially HSC.  They've got a large squad, about 21 players, so maybe they'll find some solutions in those numbers.  Looking forward to RMC playing.

Just got my tickets thru YJ Club for the HSC game
Next weekend! Should be a good Saturday in the COTU if we win tomorrow in football because we should host a DIII playoff game and then the HSC basketball game!

I had no clue that the season has started.  RC plays today at 5 against a very good Maryville team. It will be interesting to see how it goes.

^^^ Yesterday was a better day for ODAC teams, going 5-2. I watched some of the Roanoke/Maryville game. RC just couldn't quite keep up.

R-MC looked good in the first half vs Mary Baldwin, scoring 46 points. Had a tougher 2nd half, only putting up 25. It did appear that Mary Baldwin toughened up its defense after halftime. Still a good win, holding MB to only 45 points.
