RMC JACKETS go into a crucial part of their schedule starting tonite at HSC, then home Saturday vs #24Guilford, then next Wednesday vs #7 CNU also in Crenshaw Gym! These three can make or break them- they need AT LEAST two out of three to remain in the top 10! Let's see what the next week brings!! GO JACKETS!!

Jackets need to play at a high level to beat the Tigers in their house!! Don't know if the students are back yet but if they are it's gonna be one helluva loud place!! It's been a while since this rivalry has been close and I saw the first meeting so I can tell you with relative confidence that they have a darn good chance of upsetting us! If our play at the point position continues to improve I think we have a pretty good shot but if they get ahead of us and the crowd gets rowdy WATCH OUT!! Should be a good game regardless!! Go JACKETS!!!

Last season at H-SC it took a career best performance from DaQuan Morris, hitting 7 of 9 three pointers, to win that game -- even though it turned out to be a 20 point win. Tonight will be even tougher.

Y_jack_lok- I saw the first meeting after the home football playoff game and HSC is FOR REAL! We couldn't shake them , even with the Crenshaw Crazies all over them , and you know how loud that can get!! They're well coached and now they have players that have been in his system for a few years!! Gonna be a fight!! The one good thing is that they have a hard time( like everyone else does lol) with Miles  Mallory inside.... They can't keep him off the boards! If we have a shooter or two.... Like maybe  Will Coble or Jabril Robinson -  that can hit a few 3's and make them come out of their defense so Miles  can take over - then we'll be sitting pretty.... If we can't hit outside and they pack it in we're in trouble!

That's a tough stretch.  I'm just hoping my Maroons can pull out a win today against EMU (who we lost to last year).

The Quakers top the Generals 78-58 after a fast start by W&L.  The Generals led 30-18 after 11 minutes, but Guilford clamped down on Defense and were up 39-34 at the half.   The Generals are very good and this game got a little chippy late. W&L is very competitive, and I think they just got frustrated with one player ejected for coming off the bench.  The Generals will be a tough opponent this year.  The Quakers certainly didn't falter with their new #24 ranking.

^^^ I watched a bit of the W&L-Mary Washington game. W&L indeed looked good. Congrats to the Quakers on their win last night.

R-MC at H-SC was as advertised -- a very competitive game. H-SC has some quick and talented players with very deceptive moves. R-MC has three freshman guards (one starts) who are all doing a nice job when they are on the floor. Bench minutes and scoring last night were pretty limited for the Jackets. Hopefully that will change in future games.

After a fast start by HSC at home, the Jackets took over defensively and held on for a 79-67 win. Mikes Mallory with yet another Double Double and 4 players in double figures for the Jackets. Huge game at home Saturday vs Hasa's Quakers!! Gotta keep driving! I have to say I liked the old HSC announcers better than the current ones- all they seem to wanna do is gripe about the officiating! I realize the fouls looked one sided but it wasn't as bad as they made out....

Just wondering about the announcers, were they students or around college kid ages?  Most of the streams I watch with student announcers complain about officaiting a lot. But most of them don't understand the game or the rules.

In Maroons news, RC wins at home against EMU 74-61.  The game was a lot closer than the final score indicates.

No they seemed like older guys rather than students....I have listened to the old radio crew( I cant remember one guys name but the other one was Webb Watson) for YEARS- in Football as well as basketball- My old R-MC Roomate Rob Stanley, who lives in Farmville and used to do color commentary for football for the Tigers told me there was a shakeup of some sort with the radio stations and they switched announcers, and not for the better either! My absolute FAVORITE announcers, ( besides our guys Marty Wilson and Andrew Price) are the Guilford guys, who are HILARIOUS! They've got a nickname for every single player on the Guilford team and are a HOOT to listen to! They kind of remind me of the old ACC Pilot Life announcers Jim Thacker and Billy Packer from back in the day....lol They won't be doing Saturday's game because its in Ashland but you should listen if your team is playing at Guilford!

I turned the sound off and just watched. I tried listening to the R-MC radio broadcast, but it was significantly ahead of the video feed which made it tough to pay attention.

H-SC was whistled for 13 fouls (5 on Blakey). R-MC was whistled for 10.

Solid game by the Jackets.  I think the improving play by Robinson is the current key to the Jackets success.  For example, he had 6 assists and no turnovers last night.  The Tigers are a solid team and much improved over the last several years.  Would not look forward to seeing them in the ODAC tournament.

As to the HSC announcers, I'd agree with most comments said here.  One guy wasn't too bad, but the other one wasn't adding much to the game.  He repeatedly said he'd been a coach, so he was probably trying to add credence to his comments by saying so.  But, the constant complaining got very old by the end of the game, and often he was just dead wrong anyway.  But, when you've got Marty and Andrew, everyone else is a distant second.

But, again to the Tigers, I like their team.  Big, quick, strong.  They'll do well going forward.  If the Jackets can win at least one of the next two, they'll be fine as well.

Agreed that it did not sound like Cannon Watson.

I watched basically the entire second half and I didn't hear them re-introduce themselves at any point in that span.

CANNON WATSON!! That's the guy!! Thanks Pat! Yeah they certainly didn't add much..... actually they took away from the game! Like  others  I tried to listen to our radio feed and it was too far ahead.... I should also have just turned the sound off but the guy was so annoying griping about the officiating that I wanted to keep listening.... All my HSC friends say the same thing.... The broadcasting took a big hit when Cannon was let go...

The Tigers have not beaten the Jackets since February 1, 2017, so this game probably adds to a growing number of HSC senior players to never beat the Jackets.  Needless to say,  the number is even bigger on the football side, where the Tigers last won in 2013.  I think the Tigers will break the basketball streak first, if for no reason that you've got two opportunities per season.  But more importantly,  the basketball programs are more closely competitive than the football programs.

Nervously waiting for this one tomorrow ... should be a stern test for both teams!
