Come on D Mac ...

???
Excuse me Pat I was at work typing!! Lol..... I get you guys mixed up, especially when I'm busy at work! I didn't say I didn't like the PLACE.....just didn't like that venue! You wanna see ELECTRIC.....come to THE COTU AND CRENSHAW GYM this weekend! I guess I'm so used to  having  to SCREAM at the person next to me to make them hear me I take the noise for granted. At any rate, I've made my point and now I'll get off my soapbox!  It was just an observation we made last year, that's all....

I've been to Crenshaw a few times.

Pat, thanks for the photo.  Those were the days when overflow crowds were typical for Crenshaw.  At some point, the Fire Marshall started requiring RMC to limit attendance to seated capacity.  In my days as a RMC student, you would shoehorn yourself into Crenshaw.  As a DII team in those days, we played the likes of Georgetown and ODU.  We actually beat Georgetown in Crenshaw.  In one game against ODU, the gym filled three hours before game time.  The RMC JV team was playing UVA before the ODU varsity game.  The UVA JV team came out to a packed and rocking Crenshaw to their surprise, probably playing before the largest crowd that they'd seen for their JV team.  RMC JVs won, but the varsity lost to ODU in either double or triple overtime.  The players on that RMC JV team went on to the DII Championship game in 1977.

I remember lots of discussion on fire marshal restrictions on this board's predecessor. :)

Believe it or not No..... I own a jewelry store and every year around this time we have a show that I have to attend... this year it's in Orlando- not too shabby of a place to go but I fly out tomorrow am and it means I'll miss this weekends games. Gave a frat brother my ticket privileges. Last year I missed the weekend they played WPI for the same reason! I was in San Antonio the Tuesday before the Final Four and one of my friends called and said they had an open seat in the van they were renting and asked if I wanted to go... My wife just looked at me and said "GO- you'll regret it if you don't!" So I flew home Wednesday and Thursday we took off for Indiana and had a BLAST!! I'll watch it at the hotel both nights if we win and I'll be back in the COTU for the next weekend as long as we keep going! We will also go back up to Indiana if they go ! Yes being in the same frat as all the basketball players meant we pretty much went to every game and those KAPPA SIG boys that played football always had some shenanigans at the games from "SECTION 33" as they called it! Back then the drinking age was 18 and Hal Nunnally used to buy those Kappa Sig boys a keg before every big game and we'd go over to the Kappa Sig house and help them drink it before the game and those guys would dress up and do all kinds of crazy things! It's A LOT more regulated attendance wise now but it's still the loudest and craziest venue in DIII! If there's a place any crazier I'd like to know where it is!!

^^^To add to the Kappa Sig folklore, at the aforementioned ODU game, ODU brought their Cheer leading squad.  They were not too shabby either (can I say that?).  These ladies were a well orchestrated cheer squad and were very good.  We obviously, at that time, had no such squad.  Not to be outdone, during one of the timeouts, some of the Kappa Sig brethren took to the floor and did their own impromptu cheer routine.  It was hilarious in it's own awkwardness, totally brought down the house, and very Animal House like.  Only if smart phones existed in the day!

Some of those same Kappa Sig guys are who I rode up to Indiana with last year! They still have a little crazy in em too!! But I'll say this - they are some of our basketball programs STRONGEST SUPPORTERS besides the SAE guys, which is the house I was in! Back then their house sat right outside the back door of Crenshaw, so they'd just prop the back door of Crenshaw open and come
And go as they pleased. Their house was torn down and the brotherhood moved to make room for the Brock Center when Macon Brock gave all that $$$ to build the center, then he gave the $$ for Brock Commons, the campus Center. He was a fine man- he founded Dollar Tree and that HQ is not far from me- it's in Chesapeake. Those were fun days!!

Not a surprise to me, as Crenshaw often sells out and always for playoff games.  Who's your team?  And, what's the Belt?

Scranton; The Belt is a mythical award currently being held by RMC after winning it from the previous holder Roanoke on 2/25/23. It has its own message board: men's basketball -> multi regional topics -> D3 Championship Belt for its history.

Okay, I get 'The Belt' thing now.  I like it.  Good luck tomorrow.  Is your ticket only good for one game or both?

Haven't seen anything that said it wasn't good for both Friday games.

I assume you'll stay for the second game.  If so, I'd look forward to your critique.   Have fun in the COTU.
