^^^  '82, have fun, can't wait to hear your game analysis.  Just saw that the game is sold out (no surprise there).  Go Jackets!
Macon- it's gonna be a lot of fun regardless!! A bunch of " Section 33" friends will all meet at the Sports Page Grill On England St across from the Old Andy's ...then we'll go over to Crenshaw....my son is coming with us... as a HSC grad he LOVES the "Crenshaw Crazies" and we love sitting in The middle of all that  madness, even into our sixties!!  Whatever happens it's always a BLAST to get the old gang together!! It's my birthday Saturday...63... and I can't think of a better way to celebrate than a trip to Fort Wayne, if we're fortunate enough to win again! Plans will be made, and a pack of us old Jackets will make the trip if we win! Our wives are all supportive and we make memories hopefully!! This weekend in the COTU with "THE FAT PACK"( as we call ourselves)should be fun!! GO JACKETS!!!

^^^  '82, I see that the tickets for the RMC student section sold out in five minutes!  Sounds like the Crazies are primed and ready.  I'm sure if you or any other Fat Packer falls down, that a Crazy or two will help you up.

Macon

BTW, for my HSC brethren, I saw somewhere on the Interweb that a 6-9 player is headed to HSC.

To all the Guilford fans, there is a great article on NCAA.COM Div. 3 basketball home that celebrates their Quakers NAIA championship fifty years ago.

^^^ What a neat article. Thanks for mentioning it. The team Guilford beat in the first roundnof that tournament was Keene State, now also a D3 school and playing Swarthmore tonight. It also mentions that they beat the Augustana Vikings a couple of rounds later in the semi-finals. There are several Augustanas, but if it's the one in Rock Island, IL, it, too is now a D3 school.

Here's a link to the article: https://www.ncaa.com/news/basketball-men/article/2023-03-07/50-years-later-1973-guilford-mens-basketball-team-reminisces-their-naia-national

Here's the bracket for that tournament: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/1973_NAIA_basketball_tournament. It was the now D3 Augustana from Illinois. Quite a few other participating schools are also now D3. The NAIA was more prominent back then.

A great season for a great team.  The three didn't fall tonight.

MACON- You asked for my "turn" on tonites game and here it is. We got BEAT.... By a better team tonite! We picked the wrong time to have an off game! They did to us what we usually do to other teams, plain and simple. We made stupid mistakes.... Threw the ball away and gave them easy baskets.... At LEAST 6..... and they flat out shot the lights out- they shot 55% and we shot 38% and we only went to the line 4 times.... They went 17-21..... I've got to hand it to them.... They took every run we had at them and came right back and stuck it to us. The officiating wasn't very good but that's not what beat us..... WE BEAT US! They took it to the hole consistently and dished off when we cut them off and made us pay! Will Coble was 1-10 from 3 pt range I think and nobody else was much better. The crowd had very few opportunities to even get in it they beat us so bad.... In all aspects of the game .... All in all, a bad time to have a bad game! Great season and great run for our guys but I can't help but wonder what happened.... And WHY??? But good teams force you to look bad too! If they play this way the rest of the tournament they will WIN IT ALL! .... But I can't see anyone shooting like that consistently the rest of the way! Congrats to Oswego St.... They took it to us in our house and beat us at our own game.... There's just no other way to say it.... Congrats to them!

^^^ I was unable to watch the game live, but am watching it now before the video gets taken down. From what I am seeing you have described it perfectly. Yes, some bad turnovers, but overall the Jackets seem to be playing well, just not hitting shots. If the shots had been falling it would at least have been a close game throughout and who knows how it would have ended. Oswego is really good.

It was indeed the Augustana in Rock Island.  I was interviewed and quoted for my memories of that season and championship night.  BTW, I still have the car.

For sure. A much better season than I anticipated. There was a strong returning nucleus, but lots of talent to replace. A 29-2 season is just amazing.

From the article: "The parking lot next to Binford Hall on Guilford's campus was loaded with cars; it was a place off the highway where students got the station signal to tune into the national championship. Chilton and his girlfriend Linda Barnes had driven an hour from Surry County to listen in, leaning forward in the black leather seats of his Chevy II Nova to take in every moment of the game."
