They don't think about it that way.  If the team is the best on the board, it goes in.

Macon,
You beat me to it.  I think VWU is high enough up in the Regional Rankings they very likely get in.  Currently they are ahead of Christopher Newport in the Regional Rankings and a win over Guilford can only help them.  Then consider that there four losses against Regionally Ranked teams are as follows - HSC 2x, RMC and GC each once.  They also have a win over RMC and two wins over GC as well as a win over CNU.  I think they at least remain at #4 in the regional rankings if they don't win the ODAC and get to the table quickly.  We'll find out soon.

It certainly hasn't stopped the NESCAC or UAA from getting four teams in.

Think about this scenario.  If WLU wins out (highly unlikely) in the ODAC tournament, I'd contend that the ODAC gets five teams in.  Maybe a question for Ryan or Pat, but has a single conference ever gotten five teams in the Dance?

I hope youre all right! I just remember in the past when the discussion came for us to have four teams in the consensus was that we wouldnt get 4 bids. I certainly think VWU is deserving- and like Macon I would also wonder if W&L ran the table and won it all if there was ever a conference with 5??? Thats certainly a DIII HOOPS Trivia question!!

Also- What conference is CNU in now?? I cant keep up they have switched so many times. Im sure its certainly not on purpose and I have the utmost respect for ALL their athletic programs- heck I'm closer to CNU geographically than I am to The COTU- but I just cant remember what conference they are currently in??

Was not able to watch the game today, but a huge congratulations to the Generals.  I'll be pulling for them tomorrow.  I'd love to see five ODAC bids.  Go Generals!

Macon

First ODAC tournament loss by the Jackets since 2/23/2018.  Six years, quite a run by RMC.  On to the Dance!

Yep, great win for W&L. They made key shots and the Jackets didn't. RMC got shot opportunities they like, primarily three pointers, the shots just didn't go in. Jackets had eight more made two-pointers than the Generals. The difference was W&L's three point shooting (10 to 8) and free throws (20 to 7).

like you, I missed it.... The wife wanted to go to see the Bob Marley movie so we went today instead of tomorrow cause I thought we'd be in the finals! lol Now after church I guess I have "Honey Do's" and I also have to listen to all the HSC guys at my Methodist church poke me...lol.... I really hope W&L wins so we may get 5 teams in!! I'm sympathetic however, to my Tiger buddies!! They've waited a long time for this!! When they hired Caleb Kimbrough I told them all they had a WINNER!! They'll host no matter what, as should we.... GO GENNIES!!

What I know about basketball fits in a teacup, but it sure is turning out to be an exceptional year for W&L's mens and women's teams.

Be nice for the men to make the tourney... It's been 44 years. But the ODAC is so ridiculously strong in basketball I'm just glad they are typically a threat on any given night to topple ranked opponents. Much different from the dark ages when I was there.

As for the women... They should be in regardless but I hope they pick up another well deserved ODAC title. Spending the better part of the season in the top 15 has been very impressive.

I can answer this question, and the answer is Yes!   It happened last year in the 2023 Men's DIII Basketball Tournament-- the UAA got Case Western Reserve in as the AQ, and also got 4 Pool C bids-- NYU, Emory, Wash U, and Rochester.  However, none of them made it to the Sweet 16--the UAA went 2-5 in the first and second rounds.   Last year was the first time since the NESCAC presidents allowed their sports teams to compete for national championships that neither a UAA nor a NESCAC team made it to the Round of 16 in the NCAA DIII Men's Basketball Championship.

BTW, the UAA will not get 5 men's basketball teams in this year-- but as long as at least one makes it to the Sweet 16, I will be satisfied.

The NESCAC has had five before as well.  Heck, they had three in the Final Four one year, I think.
