Quote from: Seatfiller on February 15, 2025, 05:41:12 PMRoanoke with a huge win against HSC 81-72. Unfortunately I didn't get to see it but sounded like it went back and forth. Roanoke now sits at #2 in the conference and has Ferrum on Wednesday at home.

RC can't afford a let down the last 2-3 games to have a shot at a at large bid if we don't win the odac.

The game vs Ferrum is Roanoke's final conference contest. Win or lose, the Maroons will host a first round tournament game.

Randolph got a 2OT win at Averett today and has to play at Ferrum tomorrow. I'm curious how that scheduling happened. Some change due to weather? Ferrum hasn't played since last Saturday 2/8.

Lynchburg started out hot and RMC started cold, but the Jackets got things going and won 70-53. They pulled off 16 steals and had 14 offensive rebounds.

Seat filler,
Roanoke is tied at 2 with HSC.  They split the regular season, so that doesn't break the tie.  So I believe it goes to a point system based on seeding.  I believe HSC would beat Roanoke out on that based on their win over Macon and Roanoke's loss.  Someone more knowledgeable can correct me if I am wrong.

It would become very interesting if Macon were to lose one of their remaining 2 ODAC games because that would put HSC, RC, and RMC in a three-way tie.

I will say this, if Macon wins out, they are #1 again and HSC and RC would meet at the Civic Center on March 1 for the rubber match if they both win their final ODAC game and win their 1st round game at home.

It looks like Tigerfan wanted to comment on the Hampden-Sydney at Roanoke game.   I will read any thoughts that you may have about that game yesterday on this board.

Thank you for correcting me. I knew that RMC loss would hurt us in a lot of different ways and I was correct. I really doubt RMC will lose in the final 2 games so they'll have the 1 seed, which means HSC will be 2 and if RC can win Wednesday we will finish at 3.  I'm still confident if RC can win the next couple of games until they eventually play either VWC, HSC, Guilford, or RMC they could have a decent chance of sneaking into the tourney.

Roanoke moved up to 27th in NPI, so they should be in good shape.  Macon moved back in front of HSC.  (Note: This is all based off of the D3datacast NPI.)  It's nice to have D3hoops, d3datacast, hoopsville, etc. to provide resources so we know what is going on in Division 3.

I'm not counting the Quakers out yet, but I've watching the selection process long enough to know what Guilford has to do.  I believe Guilford's only chance is to win the ODAC tournament.

In my opinion, the Top 5 are all capable of winning the tournament, but I know the other three (or four) top seeds all have a chance to be selected even if they lose.

Well, with the NPI ranking system in place to determine the 21 at-large bids this season, there is no selection "process". After the 43 Pool A teams have been determined -- through conference tournaments except in the UAA -- the next 21 teams with the highest NPI get the Pool C bids.

The RMC- VWU GAME Scheduled for Wednesday evening has been moved to tomorrow evening at 730 because of the impending Snowstorm. Should be a heck of a ballgame! Our women's team, who has already sewn up the #1 seed in the tournament, plays before the men's game! Should be a great crowd in Crenshaw!!

I think you're right, Brian.  And, if RMC loses another game (perhaps to VWC tonight) and there is a 3-way tie for the regular season champsionship (with all teams having 14-2 conference records), I believe that the seeding for the tournament would be:
#1 HSC (2-1 against RMC and Roanoke),
#2 RMC (1-1 against HSC and Roanoke),
#3 Roanoke (1-2 against HSC and RMC).

For that reason, I'm rooting for the Marlins tonight.  ;)

Deiscanton, I thought I had hit "post."  I love a victory lap, but I feel obligated to take my lumps when we lose.  Roanoke was certainly the better team on Saturday.  The Tigers looked low energy (they must stop going down by large margins in the first 5-6 minutes) and got thumped on the boards. Noke was hungrier.  Adam Brazil was a volume scorer for H-SC.  You can't sugarcoat his 3 point shooting numbers: 3-26 over the last 5 games.  Perhaps a s***p? (don't want to say it - like a s***k in golf)  He's still incredibly dangerous on offense and a splendid defender, but I'm hoping that his long range shooting form returns.
The bright spot for the Tigers was freshman Peter Moye.  He is a very adept scorer and will be a big contributor in his career.

RMC with a pretty convincing win over VWU tonight. Roanoke survives Ferrum in OT. W&L and Shenandoah could end up in a tie for the final conference tourney spot if the Generals lose to Ferrum and SU downs Bridgewater on Saturday. In that case SU wins the tie breaker having defeated the Generals twice this season.

Guilford and VWU are tied for the 4th first round hosting spot. If that holds after Saturday's games, VWU wins the tiebreaker with a win over the Quakers on January 15th.

You did hit "post", but you accidentally sent the previous HSC/Roanoke post to the Coast to Coast MBB page.  That's okay, sometimes we get sidetracked.  I am just glad that we finally got some comments on the game in this page.

Both our Men's and Women's teams are hitting on all cylinders now!! Men only committed 3 turnovers THE ENTIRE GAME last night vs VWU!! Josh has those young kids confident going into the tournament! Have one last game Saturday at Randolph-hope they don't have a letdown! Lets get that #1 seed and get Crenshaw ROCKIN in the first round!

After watching HOOPSVILLE last night it looks like even if we are top 8 and win the ODAC Tournament we may not host the first weekend of NCAA play because our women will get the nod to host- as long as the wheels don't fall off of the bus for them either. Its only fair and our women's team has had a great season so far- I guess thats just the price you pay for having great programs!CNU may be in a similar position, and maybe another program or two. No need to worry about it- good teams play well on the road, too! GO JACKETS!!

Roanoke got lucky that game from what I was told.  We were up 9 at half and from what I heard the wheels starting falling off. This win doesn't give too much confidence right now before we have to play in the ODAC tourney. Before the ODAC tourney Roanoke hosts Apprentice School (14-5) tomorrow.

Looking at the other ODAC games for tomorrow the notable games I have are:

Virginia Wesleyan at Lynchburg

Ferrum at Washington and Lee

Averett at Guilford

Randolph Macon at Randolph

Shenandoah at Bridgewater

So if the top 8 teams are in then Randolph, Averett, Bridgewater and EMU are all eliminated. The remaining spot would be between Washington and Lee and Shenandoah with W and L having a one game lead over them in the ODAC. SU beat Washington and Lee in the regular season so I'm guessing if W and L loses and SU wins then SU would get that last spot. Please someone correct me if I'm wrong.
