I agree that Macedo made a tough choice, but def. a good choice by benching Balenga.  You have to send a message and I bet you no one else misses study hall or classes, at least for the next few years.

On another note, as a VWC fan it certainly hurt not having Ton Ton on the floor, but that didn't cost VWC the game.  As hard as it is to admit HSC outplayed the Marlins physically and emotionally.  Scoring for the Tigers came easy and not so much for the Marlins.  Adair's 21 points should be doubled for as hard as he worked.  He was double and triple teamed all night and still managed to get 21 points, but no help elsewhere.  I was also very impressed w/ Prehmus last night, he made the game look easy and was tough inside and out.  Special is a word that could describe him for the next few years.

Good news for the Marlins is that they usually start off hot and cool off in mid January.  Maybe this year is the reverse.  I hope b/c the ODAC isn't going to get any easier.  Macedo and Co. will get them back on track this weekend.  They are just flat emotionally.

I'm looking over the GC/E&H boxcore in the Greensboro News & Record:

E&H was 30 of 97 from three-point range and 44 of 129 overall.
GC missed both of their three-point attempts, but was 53 of 80 overall.
E&H had 45 fouls and GC had 23.
GC made 41 of 58 FT's and E&H made 18 of 28.
Guilford won by eleven on the road, 147-136.

Listening to the game on the net, it seemed as though Guilford was convinced that hitting two point lay-ups and dunks while drawing fouls inside would beat E&H's rapid-fire three-point shooting - and it did.  Granted, E&H only shot 31% on three pointers, but 97 attempts to only two!  In a way, you can say that 31% on three-point attempts equals 46.5% on two-point attempts, but Guilford still clearly won that battle by making 66% of their shots.  Before the game, I never would have believed Guilford would score 147 and win with only two three-point attempts, but it happened!  Kudos to GC for having a game plan and executing it.  Is this the strategy that will consistently beat "the System?"

I also agree with Macedo's decision to send a message to his players about their academic responsibility.  He showed me something my making that move, especially when it was an ODAC game against a tough opponent.  More coaches should follow his example and they deserve the support of the fans and parents for doing so!

Looks like VWC is really missing Pete Warren.

Steelyglen, how did I end up in the pick 'em contest? I don't remember making a prediction--that might challenge my objectivity as a broadcaster. Or something like that.

Boy, did the Wolfpack look awful last night, although Iowa didn't look any better. I hear they're re-airing the game on Comedy Central this weekend...

Yeah, they did.  My youngest brother is an NC State alumnus and it'll take him a few days to shake this one off.  I'm sure he'll have a few choice words for me if I tell him your comment about Comedy Central.  lol  In fact, I think I'll call him up right now ....  :)

^That's why    ;)

You posted a few days ago that W&L would beat Bridgewater last night. I took that as a pick'em. You are hereby officially exhiled...as per your request. ;D

As this is not packpride.com I won't go into much detail but suffice it to say we should not let winnable road games against Top 15 competition get away...as we did last night!

LC 82 RM-C 77    LC WINS FIRST GAME OF SEASON WITH BIG UPSET OVER TOP 25 TEAM!!!!!!

What? Why did you post that at 2:15 yesterday afternoon?

Enjoyed the R-MC/LC game last night, but had a question.  There was a guy from LC, # 54, who was defending Wansley in front of the R-M bench and he just started barking (just like a dog) at Wansley.  One of the stranger things I've seen at a ball game.  What's up with THAT?

Albright had a good game from LC, and he's got a hard job this year bringing along the Hornet freshmen.

All players are taught to yell "ball ball ball" when defending the player with the ball and "dead dead dead" when they pick up their dribble and "shot" when a shot goes up. All coaches (college coaches at least) teach ther players to yell at least "ball" when on defense, although a lot of players don't do it in games but some do. It helps with on the floor communication, which is always a vital aprt of the game. I've seen players yell "ball" and "dead" and "shot" plenty of times before. I don't know what kind of basketball you watch but its a common occurence, and I dont know what kind of dogs you pay attention to, but i've never heard a dog yell ball before.

Not to be a bother, but I never posted a prediction about last night's game. I think that must have been one of the other Generals fans on the board...

Here's my take on the 05/06 Marlins, albeit from afar this year....leadership - it's evolving - Fitch, Adair and Sumpter are certainly capable of being on/off court leaders....perimeter shooting - ouch - take Balenga out of the mix and it goes away....coaching - as usual, Coach Macedo has control. Don't count out the Marlins. Slow start for sure but an All American in the making and once TonTon gets his academic act together, the long-range shooting comes in to play. You also have some guys on the bench who can play. I think they will get it together this weekend. GO FISH!

After reading Scottie's explanation, I remembered a video clip from a HS tournament game a few years ago.  Not sure where the game was played, but they aired the video on CNN and ESPN for a couple of days.  There was a crucial game-ending inbounds play and I think the inbounding team was down a point.  One of the offensive players went to the far corner and started barking like a dog at the top of his lungs.  When all the defenders turned their heads to look, the offensive team inbounded the ball and made the winning basket.  Does anyone else remember this?  lol
