He's an NAIA era player, but Jerry Crocker, Guilford '72, was a sixth round draft pick by the NBA's Cincinnati Royals.  David Smith, also a Guilford player then (and I think the best, but not just because he was my Dad's first cousin lol), was drafted by the Carolina Cougars.  I saw Crocker, Smith, Free, Carr, Jackson and others play in old Alumni Gymnasium.  In its day, it was a smaller version of the Cameron Indoor Stadium atmosphere.  If you came there to play the Quakers the 60's and 70's, you almost always left with a loss!  I know they were 32-5 in 1970 and 29-5 in 1973, just to name a few years.

HSC 26   VWC 34      Halftime

Sounds like it is a very defensive game

Larry Sheets from EMC/EMU also played professional baseball for the Orioles for a few years.

Erik Kratz from EMU is currently playing catcher for the Double A  Blue Jays farm team.  He has moved up one level each year and has the fastest time of anyone in the organization for getting the ball from glove to glove(Home to second base).

EMU is beating Southern VA at the half by five points.  You can listen to the game or follow by watching the stats from the EMU website.

Sorry about the absence of a Live Scoreboard tonight.  I'm here in Nininger Hall (Bridgewater) cheering on our ladies.

They announced that the Bridgewater men were up by 11 points versus W&L at the half in Lexington.

HSC 53   VWC  68  Final

Tiger fans may help me understand this a little bit.  One announcer says "VWC may not be the most disciplined team in the league, they are certainly the quickest and with Brandon Adair are very impressive."  Now the other guy says prior to the above comment "Regardless of the final score, VWC does not impress me..."  Why such different reactions after a 15 point game?  Maybe those who were there could answer it because I heard the game but being there is something else.

This is 'kid' posting from someone else's computer...

I got word the Bridgewater men defeated W&L 70-47 tonight.

Back to the Duke-State game!  GO WOLFPACK!

EMU defeated So. VA. 86-74...they controlled the whole game. Sager had 25/6 Whiting 2/40, Parkes 16/7, Arrington a near DD with 9pts 7rebs...Good win and momentum builder for the Royal as they head to BC this weekend, where it looks like BC is playing better ball than EMU...Good luck Royals....

misprint....whiting had 20pts. 4 rebs

It seems as if Leatherman has the Eagles playing some good ball recently. I know that W&L is a weaker team in the ODAC but I saw them play last week against EMU and W&L is a team that is getting better.  I hope EMU is ready to play this weekend against the Eagles.

Nice win tonight EMU!

Final:  GC over E&H 109-106, so considerably fewer total points (215) than last time.  Kimbrough hit two FT's with 9 seconds to go and E&H missed a 3.  Ben Strong had 30 and Jordan Snipes 22 by my count for Guilford and Gary Kerns led E&H with 26.   E&H took their normal number of threes (54) and Guilford took none, but all my stats are unofficial.

Quakers have now won four in a row (all ODAC) and improve to 8-8, 6-3 ODAC.  Wasps fall to 6-9, 2-6 ODAC.

I'm not a Tiger fan but living in the area I can tell you that the local radio station is so pro-HSC it is sad. I don't know that I have ever heard them being critical of HSC. It is always the ref's fault or some other reason why HSC lost a game.

EMU with a solid nonconference win tonight to get back on track heading into a huge game this weekend for multiple reasons. The first being it's BC-EMU and one of the best, if not the best rivalry in the ODAC. Secondly, both teams need this win and confidence builder as they try to make a push back into the upper tier of the conference. Alright back to tongihts game against Southern Virginia who can flat out shoot the ball if you give them space. The Royals did a great job in the first half and the first 7 or 8 minutes of the second putting pressure all over the court. EMU forced 19 first half TO's. A little more than halfway through the second, SVU took fire and were raining three's They ended up shooting 8-11 behind the arch and a good number of them were real deep. EMU did a nice job of responding to the strong run of SVU and didn't get rattled when the game was eventually tied. It was a great nonconference win for the Royals as they begin to prepare for BC. The Eagles are playing some quality ball right now and it's going to take a great performance for EMU to come out with a "W" at there place. It's going to be a packed house and hostile. I'm looking forward to it and you can listen to it all on Royals Audio on the EMU Athletics webpage. Good luck EMU and let's pick up a sweep against Bridgewater!
