If the "system" requires a team to go 15 deep, that is just another reason why the "system" probably will not produce consistent winners. There has never been a team in the ODAC able to go 15 deep without considereable drop off in talent. If E&H plans to split equal playing time between 15 guys, their chances of winning are considerable reduced. Even the best teams to play in the ODAC never went deeper than 10 guys. Good luck finding a team 15 deep. If you find it I would suggest the E&H will dominate the ODAC.

Albright is averaging 2.45 steals/game this season - second-most a contest in the ODAC.

Hell, if HSC continues to have 23 turnovers a game he is liable to get his ten steals in that game alone, which will probably be his last game. Good to him, setting that type of record would be a great accomplishment for the young man!!

Beats me! I don't coordinate alumni stuff. I think we just ask people to volunteer for it.

Who are the players in the league that really have a feel for getting steals besides Albright?

Dont know if I would say Korey Whiting has a feel for it, but he has 59 steals on the year.

The Roanoke Times carried a very nice article about Jared Butler today.  A terrific young man, part of an outstanding family.

VWC's  Thomas Sumpter is a great thief as is Ton Ton Balenga I think both are in the top 15 in steals per game.

I'll give you Sumpter ranks 5th in the ODAC in conference games, but not Balenga. He only averages 1.25 a game.

Can anyone give me some insight on how tough it is to win at EMU and Bridgewater.  Emory and Henry will be up their this weekend.  I have never been to either of the schools so don't know what kind of homecourt advantages there are.  What are there records at home?

justafan02

Scottie,

Balenga is in the top 15 including non-conference games and VWC doesn't play a bad schedule outside the conference.

Good morning everyone!
Posting at 3:54 AM?  Did you leave any worms for us wanabee early risers?

ODACfan1,
EMU has only lost one conference game at home--and that to Virginia Wesleyan in OT.  Bridgewater will have Steelyglen in attendance this weekend to cheer on the Eagles, so they should be very tough.  I understand both of these gyms will turn off the heat and open the doors to cool off the heat-acclimated Wasps.   :)

ODACfan1...

BC's Nininger Hall is a tough place to play.  It has an "old-school" look to it and can get incredibly loud.  I have seen a lot of good teams go home with losses after playing there, too.

As for the talk about who has a "feel" for getting steals, I think clarification is needed.  Steals can occur by "picking someone's pocket" and by anticipating the pass.  Plus, I think the stat is very overrated.  For example, was the pass telegraphed?  Was the offensive player in a double team that forced him to make a bad pass?  In those examples, the player credited with a steal didn't have to do a whole lot to get it.  Obviously, if you take it from someone, you've made a good play.  I've never thought a good defensive player should be rated by the number of steals he gets.  If, in 10 possessions, I get a 2 steals, but dribble penetration by the guy I'm guarding leads to baskets twice, I haven't played good defense.  But, averaging two steals a game is looked at as the mark of someone who plays great defense.  I'm not saying anything about Albright, Balenga, or Sumpter in this regard.  I'm just saying that it's an overrated stat, and if you want to analyze how good of a defender someone is, look to see how the guy he is guarding performs.
