Tigers win, 96-57, shooting 63% from the field, with 6 for 10 from behind the arc, while Guilford shoots 31%, with 1 for 13 from behind the arc.  The Tigers were hot while Guilford was cold.

Prehmus was blazing ... 7 for 9, with 4 for 4 from behind the arc, for 19 points, to go along with 4 steals.  Edwards had 12 and Kaase scored 10, while Strong had 16 and Taylor got 13 for the Quakers.  No Tiger played more than 25 minutes this evening, with all of the 14 members of the team scoring.  Best play of the evening might have been when freshman Nelson Gregory (Marcus' little brother) scored his first college field goal on a beautiful assist from senior captain Matt Guill.

Emory and Henry cruised tonight in Emory, VA.  Final score was 122-94 i believe.  Good to see everyone get into the game tonight and contribute.  WASPS never were really challenged in the game, but W&L plays a lot harder than I had expected.  Next up is Lynchburg in Emory.  Hopefully Emory will close out the season with 2 more wins and move into the tournament with some momentum.  Coach Johnson for COACH OF THE YEAR.

Looking at the updated ODAC standings after tonight's games, I guess W&L and LC have been officially eliminated from making the ODAC tournament.  Even if the Generals and the Hornets both win their last two games they'll only have five ODAC victories and EMU & BC (tied for 7th) now have six.

I agree with EagleSlam on the likely order of #5 - #8, especially given the results of tonight's games.  This is what I expect to see in the quarterfinals:

1pm - Virginia Wesleyan v. Bridgewater
3pm - Guilford v. Emory & Henry

6pm - Randolph-Macon v. EMU
8pm - Hampden-Sydney v. Roanoke

I just spat beer on the floor.  The Gennies scored 97??

The ODAC just isn't as much fun when the Gennies aren't doing what they need to do.  Maybe I'm OLD SCHOOL, but that's my story and I'm stickin' to it. 8)

I don't like to place bets.   ;D  And Mainers eat whoopie pies.  not moon pies.

As I was telling Jim at the game, this is the first game of the season I can honestly say Bridgewater played worse in the second half then they did in the first, and their first half wasn't very good at all.  They can't shoot 11-29 and expect to win games.  Usually the Eagles are pretty good at picking up their intensity in the second half, but it just got worse instead.  I think a lot of the new/freshman players still walk onto the court like they can just put up a few average baskets and win the game.  The reason the average Eagles of last year came out ahead of what they were expected to do is because they wanted it more.  They pumped themselves up for games and came out with enough enthusiasm, desire and intensity to win basketball games.  Average play doesn't win games.

So EMU has the tiebreaker over BC if it comes to that?

The Roanoke Times stopwatch showed more "good" time than mine, but the story about last night's game does give nice ink to A.J. Dowell.

It's a good thing you didn't read the board last December when W&L scored 98 in a victory over the Quakers.   :)

Lots of discussion about the strength of the ODAC, especially compared to 2003.  I don't think it's close; the ODAC is tougher this year.  In 2002-03, H-SC and R-MC were THAT much better than everyone else.  They brought in guys off the bench that not only would have started for any other team in the league, but would have been huge contributors if not the go-to guy.  I can honestly say I didn't think they would lose a game unless they played each other.  They probably had some close games, but I do not recall many.  The ODAC Tournament was almost a formality; the championship game was set in everyone's mind.  If either of those teams didn't get there, it would have been a HUGE upset for someone.  I would wager that in those "what-if" games, they would beat any team in the ODAC this year.

This year, top to bottom, the league is tougher.  Programs like GC and even EMU have improved.  BC has a better team this year than in 2003 in my opinion.  Heading into last night's games, the 8th place Eagles actually had outscored its opponents in league play.  Not by much, and I'm sure with the game last night and the remaining two against Macon and Wesleyan that will change, but how often does it occur?  I would guess not often.  Even LC has lost by less than 10 a game, and W&L by less than 11.  This year's ODAC Tournament is much less than a "given".  No offense to VWC, but if they lose in the 1st round to BC, it would be less of a shock to me than R-MC losing to LC two years ago in the first round.  I would also wager that if the mid to lower teams played each other in a "what-if" game, the teams from this year would prevail.

Saw Ben Strong play last night, and I must say I did not come away all that impressed.  He is a good shooter with nice form and can hit that 15 foot baseline jumper consistantly and at times asserted himself in the post.  He passes very well out of double-teams, too.  But, he got pushed around while on defense and always seemed winded.  He never seemed to be physical.  In the first half, the Quakers, I thought, acutally played better when he was not in the game.  I know the Tigers were really forcing an up-tempo game, and that is not his strength right now, but to be a 1st Team player, to me, you have to be able to play well regardless of tempo.
