Good luck to the Marlins this weekend!

For you old-schoolers...there was a pretty good basketball team in 1974 who also played their regionals on their home floor(Raleigh /Reynolds Coliseum), won that and then travelled across North Carolina to play the Final Four in Greensboro and of course won it all there.

It would be sweet to see VWC follow suit and never leave the friendly confines of the Commonwealth en-route to National Championship!

As a famous man once said... "Don't give up...don't ever give up!"

A slightly lesser famous guy also once said..."Git 'er dun"... ;D

GO Fish!
Hey steely, I went to an FCA banquet at Grandover in Greensboro last night and talked with Tommy Burleson and Phil Spence.  When I shook hands with Tommy (7'4"), I don't think I have ever felt as small in my life and I'm 6'1"/195.  I remember Tommy's 38 points against a great Maryland team in the ACC championship game like it was yesterday.  I was a senior at Guilford in 1974 when the Pack won the NCAA championship at the Greensboro Coliseum.   I still say David Thompson was the greatest college player I ever saw - I will never forget when he went to the basket in the Raleigh regional and "tripped" over the shoulder of a 6'4" Pittsburgh Panther!  Unbelievable!

Marlin Fans:

If you concentrate soley on stopping Myrick, you may expose yourself to other Lincoln players potentially having a career game.  True Kyle is the "heart & soul" of this team, but the supporting cast is not to shabby either.  Guard Sami Wylie is in the top ten in 3 pointers and Darryl white is in the top ten in blocked shots.  Temple transfer Tyreek Byard, along with Bryant Leach and Thomas Hickson are excellent players in their own right.  This year's edition of Lincoln is more of a team than last years (that just missed the NCAA's) where Jarrett Kearse and Kyle Myrick were the team.

I'm looking for a well played well officiated game this weekend between Lincoln and VA. Wesleyan.

                  Roar on Lions!

njlincolnlion - the same can be said about the Marlins. This is going to be a great game! If the Lions spend too much time defending Adair inside, Thomas Sumpter, Marques Fitch, Ton Ton Balenga and Tyler Fantin will kill you from the outside. Right behind these guys are Rodney Young, Terrell Dixon, DJ Tucker, and Ari Paschal. Are you coming over for the game?

hasanova...
Was there (and in Greensboro as well) and saw it up close and personal...how David was not more seriously injured is still beyond me to this day. All any of us could ever figure is there was a "dead" spot in the lane at that end on the old Reynolds portable floor. We figured David had to have hit that spot!!! ;) He had been fouled on the other end the play earlier and was coming down to reject a shot at the time he hit the floor. he was HOT!!! As mad as I have ever seen him. But Reynolds was never louder than when he showed back up on the floor in the second half...head bandaged and all! David is without question the greatest college player to EVER play in the ACC and will rank in the top 10 all-time among college players. As great a player as he was, he is even a better person. Same can be said for TB...a fiery individual who loves his Wolfpack like few others. Very outspoken and usually right. His stature is quite the sight to this day. Try standing around him AND CHuck Nevitt (7'-5") sometime...my 6-4 frame pales in comparison...

WHat if there had been a 3-point lien and players could have dunked back then? Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm!

steely - I wholeheartedly agree with your opinion of Tommy B. and David T. as both players and people.  Tommy owns a Christmas tree farm in Avery County (NC) and sells a lot of his trees in Raleigh where, of course, he is still a "big" star.  I  know David has done much good work with community youth groups on behalf of the old Charlotte Hornets NBA team and others.  My Mother is a very keen Pack fan and I think the only time I ever saw anyone jump higher than David Thompson was when she was jumping and screaming when the Pack came back to beat UCLA and Bill Walton in OT in the semifinals in Greensboro.  lol  It's too bad they had to play in the semis in '74 because I think everyone knew they were the two best teams even though the Bruins had given NCSU their only loss in the old St. Louis Checkerdome earlier in the season.   David Thompson with a three-point line AND able to dunk - wow, talk about a human highlight film!

Unfortunately  :'( , I can't make trip down to Virginia Beach, due to a prior commitment in NYC that was made three months ago.  I dare not try to get out of the commitment, or else my wife (who also happens to be a Lincoln Alum) will kill me.  I'm taking my laptop to hide and sneak off occasionally to listen to the game, either through the webcast, or updates.

I think the Lions and the Marlins match up very well, and the winner of this game will make it to the final four.

What does comparing CNU have to do w/ the VWC/Lincoln game?  VWC waxed the Captains this year, infact they held CNU scoreless for  the first 7 minutes of the game at CNU.

Well, then VWC should have no problem "waxing" Lincoln on their home floor, since they barely beat CNU, right?  That CNU team VWC beat up on earlier in the year was a much different squad towards the end of the season.  I think the Marlins will be fine against Lincoln if they play to their potential.  In all honesty, if VWC doesn't make it to the Final Four, given their opponents, it would be a real failure in my mind.

GO CAPS!

njlincolnlion - I just don't know where your priorities are! ;D

FISHTANKFAN

Coach Macedo will have the Marlins ready for Lincoln and it will be a battle but I believe the Marlins will pull it out and win.  They won't go down without a fight.  Can anyone answer me a question though?..Why not a word about the Marlins on d3 hoops releases?..Not a word about the Farmingdale game or their upcoming game against  Lincoln.  There is a nice article on Lincoln but not a word about the Marlins.  Actually I believe almost if not every other team is mentioned except them.  I realize their are many teams in the tourney but not a single word?...Well i guess it doesn't really matter..if and when the Marlins win tomorrow night, they will be forced to at least  give the score...Just seems strange is all.

Excellent!  I always seem to do real well in the early rounds (picking the upsets, etc.) then I only get like three of the elite eight and one of the final four picks right.  I just might have to change up my strategy this year.

We are indeed both honored and humbled to have Pat Coleman at the Batten Center for this weekend's games. I hope you have the opportunity to visit Hot Tuna Grill, Bubba's, or the Docksider while you ate at VWC.

correction - the word is "are" not "ate." It seems that every time I start thinking about going to VWC I think about seafood!
