Wow....unbelievable win by VWC!  My hat goes off to the Marlins....congratulations!

GO CAPS!

I said earlier that sometimes intangibles win games and tonight the Marlins proved me right.  Congratulations to the Marlins for playing their hearts out, for never giving up and for believing in themselves.  27 in a row and one more to go.  Coach Madeco, thanks for preparing your team so well and to all the Marlins for a great ball game.  Congrats also to Illinois Weselyan for a great season.  You have a great team.  What I want to know now is who is Pat Cummings picking to win the National Championship game?..lol..  I know who I am picking...GO MARLINS!!!!!

And by the way, maybe NOW VWC /ODAC will get a little more respect. They may not be a "power conference" but they proved that they can play any team in D3 and hold their own.    Another battle, another test of wills, of heart, and talent in a little over 24 hours.  Stay tuned.

How could the Marlins win? They believed they could. The believed in each other, they believed in their coach. Nobody told them they were supposed to lose.   Go Fish!

Fishtankfan, I have archived Pat Coleman's January compilation of the conference records since the Pools started in 2000 on the "Historical Data" board on the Multi-Region board.

The ODAC was 12-11 in the tourney before this year.  I have arbitrarily broken strong conferences as those with a tourney winning percentage of .600.  I think that the ODAC is pushing power status.

The Power conferences have sent teams to the Final Four on a perennial basis.  I think that the ODAC is one of the strongest D3 mid-majors, especially at their top.  If they win tomorrow, they will boost the ODAC percentage to 17-11, .607.

Hoosier Titan

Congratulations to the Marlins.  Your team stuck closely to its game plan and you deserved the victory tonight.  Best of luck tomorrow.
You'll never walk alone.

Good question...I don't know who I'm picking yet, and we've been talking about the games non-stop since they ended.  But really, I am not the only one who picked IWU...so let's not act like it.

IWU didn't shoot 75% in the second half like they did against Puget Sound, which is the whole reason they are in Salem to begin with.

Why did Virginia Wesleyan win the basketball game?  Two reasons in my analysis:

1.  Five turnovers...FIVE turnovers.  VaWes turned the ball over a whopping five times all game.  IWU just 9 times...but...WOW.

2.  All-American Adam Dauksas choked...plain and simple.  3 points, 4 turnovers, 39 minutes.  Was it ESPN, over-confidence, something else?  Worse game of his career came at a really bad time.

Frankly, the Salem Civic Center was shocked at the VaWes win.  They've done what alot of people thought they couldn't...

- provide IWU their first non-conference loss of the year
- win 27 in a row after a 2-3 November

Nothing anyone could say would make me think VaWes was better than IWU before today.  The Marlins didn't care and they proved it where it matters.

Interesting flashback to the postgame interview with Scott Trost after IWU's win over Puget Sound...

Me: "Coach, your semifinals opponent will be Virginia Wesleyan, any thoughts about them?"

Trost: "I don't know anything about them, and I don't really care."

Oh...he cares now.

Pat Coleman

I tried to convince you guys last night on the show that it wasn't impossible.

BTW, sorry that the Virginia Wesleyan capsule was so much shorter than the rest. They were all written by different people and some had more time than others. The Virginia Wesleyan writer? Pat Coleman.

Sue me. This isn't the only thing I have going on this week.

I think we have a very good final four this year and I think there might be a surprise or two come the end of the second game on friday.  I think we are going to have an Amherst VWU final.

I am picking the Marlins to win it all.  I thought you could beat IWU.  I don't think IWU was over rated at all but I do think maybe they were over hyped.  I also think that VWC and some of the other Eastern teams were a little overlooked this year.  I haven't read it yet but I am waiting for the "They had the easy road to the final four" posts that are sure to come.

I have to root for the team that took out NJCU last year and took out the NJAC rep WPU this year and I used to be stationed in Norfolk so Go Marlins!

Then we're the Missouri Valley Conference of D3!

As a Titan fan, I would like to congratualte the Marlins on a great win last night and on keeping their impressive win steak alive. It was a super D3 basketball game between two excellent teams and VWC made the plays down the stretch to to earn the victory.  I also would like to wish the Marlins good luck tonight, and I hope they are holding the trophy when it's over. Go Titans, let's finish this great season with a win and 3rd place.

Wow!  VWC - Virginia Wesleyan Can!  Quakers and other ODAC fans are pulling for you.  It's in the cards - Go Fish!

Best line of the night..When told that the Marlins had just completed the biggest upset of the tourney and what did he think about that Macedo replied..."not to us it wasn't" . Macedo and company did their homework and it gave them the edge.  They haven't been favored the whole tourney, they have had to grind out every win and find a way to beat some of the best teams in d3.  No easy task.  Kudo's to each and every player and coach from VWC..

I would think they were at least favored in their first game.
