True, Gregory, but even those restrictions don't explain Myrick on the third team. He wasn't the third-best player in the region, nor was he the second-best guard behind McGarvey (I saw all three play). Although the setup flaw is partly to blame for the result, the voting itself comes into play.

I certainly accept that point, Pat, especially since Myrick was the D3hoops.com Player of the Year. But the setup answers the questions ncbballfan and Scottie raised about the absence of Amelianovich and any other Illinois Wesleyan players from the NABC teams.

Meant to mention this point earlier: The archives from this week's Hoopsville are posted, along with the individual interviews. Here's Dave Macedo: http://www.d3hoops.com/audio/06/macedo032106.mp3

Two great articles linked to the front page on the "More from Nationals" or whatever it is called.  There is an article on VWC as a whole (really Macedo's program) and one on Mr. March...aka...Ton Ton Balenga.  Very well written!

Thanks. I wish I could have gotten mine done sooner but I have been sick as a dog since getting back from Salem.

Then again, the extra time prompted me to go back to my trip to VWC in 2002 and pull out that quote that rang so true this week, so perhaps it's better this way.

VWC had it celebration last night (as all the kids were back from spring break).  The mayor from Norfolk and Va Beach were on hand to declare the 27th "VWC Day" etc.  President Greer showed Mr. March doing his thing over and over on big screens, there was food, t-shirts, and over 800 people on hand.  Haven't seen anything like it since I have been a part of the college.  The only sad thing is it is over.

Two great quotes/stories from last night:

Marques Fitch as he took the microphone and spoke to the crowd:  "I have an announcement to make.  I will fore go my career at Virginia Wesleyan and enter the NBA draft."  This got the crowd rolling.

President Greer talking about Macedo's timeout discussion after Balenga hit the three.  "He was in the huddle telling everyone to calm down, calm down.  Well, I dont' know what he thought had happened but I wasn't calming down a bit."

and the best one....

Macedo after talking about how hard the team worked and how much they desearve this.  "We are gonna start getting after it again here in about a week."
The players and fans were laughing at that.

Great year....now on to next.

Justafan02 - Carol and I ran into Ari Paschal this morning on our way out of VA Beach after attending the championship celebration last night and he told us he was on his way to the weight room! It was 5:00 a.m.!! President Greer also described the winning 3 point sequence as "the sweetest 29 seconds this side of heaven." They expect to be guests of Gov. Kaine in Richmond soon along with VA Union, ODU and GMU. They have their eye on the White House too. Letterman or Leno haven't called yet! I gotta tell you...they are loving the attention and they deserve all they can get.  :D

Mr. Warren,

You even got a shot out from Coach Macedo last night!

jdubyadubya

I know. I told him it was totally unnecessary.

Here's a post-game picture I took.  I'm wondering who is standing next to Coach Macedo ...

Algernon,

The guy with Macedo is James Mcleod...former VWC player (mid/late '90s) and a very good friend of Coach Macedo as well as a great supporter of the program.  I believe he lives in the Mass area and made the trip down for the games.  Good guy and loyal supporter of the Marlins

I believe he prefers the phrase "Marlin GREAT, James MacLeod"

Lynchburg College's Andy Albright (Hudson, OH/Hudson) and Caroline Wesley (Baltimore, MD/Notre Dame) each earned honorable mention college division all-state basketball honors Friday - as voted on by the Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID).

definitely be jealous of Coach Leatherman, Coach Weller, and Administrative Assistant Derek Foltz of BC tonight.  They are all enjoying themselves in Indianapolis watching the final four.  Better be having the time of your life out there D.
