yep, always helps to have a coach that the players want to play for

I haven't heard anything definitive about the HSC recruiting class.  A talented freshman post player would make a big difference for the Tigers.  They'll contend, regardless of who they add to the program, but they're really looking for a big man who can make a real contribution before the season is over.  I'm sure that a lot of high school students will be making their decisions within the next 4 weeks.

Coming back:  Troy Kaase, Drew Prehmus, Mike Edwards, Matt Green, Tyler Murray, Jyri Laakso, Jeremy Szuch, Kevin Forrester, Byron Lawton, Fitz Robertson, Cale Phillips.

Hey algernon,

Is Nelson Gregory not coming back?  I see he is not on your list.

who is that? i dont see that name on their roster

Scottie,

Because Mladen left the team, a spot opened up and Nelson was placed on the team but the roster was never updated on the webpage.  Check the season stats and you will see his name.  He is the younger brother of Marcus Gregory, a player I think you may remember.

Don't remember a marcus gregory either. Must have been on the team two years ago (my freshman year) or earlier when I didnt really get into odac hoops until mid january two years ago or something like that, so I don't remember many names from that year other than the best of the best.

It absolutely could not have happened to a better coach or more deserving individual. As good of a coach as Bill Leatherman is...he is that much of a better human being. Bridgewater COllege is damned lucky to have this gentleman on their payroll and the ODAC and D3 basketball could not have a better representative!

Leatherman receives NABC Advocacy Award
Indianapolis, Indiana

Bridgewater College head basketball coach Bill Leatherman has been selected as the 2006 recipient of the Guardians Award for Advocacy by the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC).

The Guardians Award is the highest recognition that can be presented to an NABC member. The Guardians Award recognizes the four coaching pillars: Advocacy, Education, Service and Leadership.

Leatherman was selected from a group of his coaching peers after being nominated by a fellow NABC member.

Guardians of the Game is a national awareness and education program led by the NABC. The goal of the program is to focus attention on the positive aspects of basketball and the role coaches play in the lives of student-athletes, in addition to the contributions coaches make to their communities.

NABC coaches are advocates for the game of basketball, student-athletes, and coaches, providing leadership and guidance on issues affecting the basketball community.

The Advocacy award winner should exemplify the NABC's commitment to taking a stand on issues critical to the integrity of the game. In addition, the winner should actively provide support and counsel for the best interests of the game, the individual, and society.

Leatherman just completed his 21st season as the head coach of the Eagles. He has a career record of 312 wins and 232 losses during his tenure.

Leatherman received his award Sunday night at the NABC Guardians of the Game Awards Show during Final Four weekend activities in Indianapolis.

NICE JOB BILL!

Scottie, the thought that you have only been on this site for two years absolutely boggles my mind.

Steely - great to read about Coach Leatherman's well-deserved honor. The ODAC is blessed with great coaches.

Brian .... Actually, because he isn't on the web page roster, I forgot about Nelson.  As with the others, I have no reason to think that he isn't coming back.

While surfing the internet yesterday, it was interesting to note how much coverage Guilford's Ben Strong gets in tribal newspapers and internet news services in North Dakota and Minnesota.  Ben's father, Ed, is Chippewa and active in tribal politics in Red Lake, MN.  The tribal news outlets all carry his game stories and articles about awards such as All-ODAC and All-Region selections.

Hasanova .... I'd like to see one of those stories about Ben, if you can post a link sometime.

algernon, most of it looks like it's picked up off wire reports or maybe even sent by Guilford's SID, but the first is North Dakota Nation Sports and the second is Red Lake (MN) Net News:

I've already told the editor of rlnn that Guilford is in North Carolina and not South Carolina.  lol  He was very genuine in his response and said they would "get it right."

found something pretty interesting when searching on the internet yesterday.  back before the 1950's, seven of the current ODAC teams played Duke in basketball! go here http://dukeupdate.com/Records/Opponents/duke_opponents_conf.htm and scroll to the bottom to find non-D1 opponents. W&L can probably lay claim to giving Duke its most lopsided loss EVER, beating them 90-15 back in 1913. 90 points in 1913 is unbelievable!
