"Used in conversation/debate to concede a point as true". To have a concession the NJLion would have had to make his own point to then concede to your point. Now a  comment of "touche" would be appropriate from you. Ain't semantics a wonderful thing?

Since when do you have to make your own point in order to concede another's? ???   A concession is a concession...

For AT LEAST a generation (probably longer), touche has also evolved into a synonym for 'Bravo!' or 'well said!'  Let's leave the hopeless task to the French Academy of trying to maintain a 'pure' (static) language - English always has been and always will be a work in progress.

Not to say that SOME word fights aren't worth waging - the one that drives me up a wall is people using disinterested in place of uninterested.  That distinction is critical - a good judge is disinterested, he/she is certainly not uninterested!  (Actually, of course, a 'good' judge is one biased in your favor! ;))

Mr. Ypsi, I don't want to leave anything to the French.  They don't even have an army :D to defend themselves.

Otherwise, your points are well taken.

Was it General George Patton who said "I'd rather have a thousand Russian soldiers in front of me than a thousand French soldiers behind me!"?  C'est la vie!

I stand corrected my friends.  The French do have an "army" but it is apparently only used for peace keeping missions.  HA HA HA  :D :D :D

Check out the BBC article on the French army:

Word on the street is that French weapons make great war-time souvenirs ...

They are in mint condition ... they've never been fired in combat, and have only been dropped once!   :)

Did anyone see the photo going around the internet a few years ago showing a French Army knife (think Swiss Army knife with all its gizmos)?  It had a corkscrew and a little white surrender flag.  lol

wilburt

I don't know about any knives but I have heard about a new game.

So now it is clear why the US wanted so badly to have the French agree to lead the peacekeeping force in Lebanon.  Just how I would want to do it if I wanted not to.

You'd be amazed how easy it was to find a picture of a French Army knife on the internet.  Here it is, replete with eight corkscrews, a white flag and featuring the obligatory fleur-de-lis emblem!  lol

Prime Minister Chirac has officially raised the French terror alert from "Run" to "Hide". There are only two higher alert levels in France, which are "Surrender" and "Collaborate". The rise was precipitated by a recent fire which destroyed France's white flag factory - effectively crippling their military. :o

They've created a  new governmental agency to deal with this sort of thing.

France punks out again with the peacekeeping force in Lebanon...

Are you not surprised after raising the terror alert from "Run" to "Hide"?

The Tigers' schedule has been posted:  http://www2.hsc.edu/athletics/basketball/2006_07/schedule.html

The Tigers' schedule includes:  (1) a long road-trip to start the season, going north of Pittsburgh to play in a tournament at Westminster College that includes the Lynchburg Hornets and a team that is yet to be announced, (2) no Monday games, (3) 4 weekends when the Tigers play a pair of teams on Saturday/Sunday, with one game at home and the other on the road -- including 2 weekends against the Bridgewater / EMU pair and 2 weekends against the Roanoke / W&L pair, (4) a December 9 game against the DIII National Champions at HSC (!)  (5) Wednesday games against Lynchburg and Guilford, (6) and Saturday games against EHC and RMC, including (7) the last game of the regular season on a Saturday at home against the Yellow Jackets -- February 17.

The Holiday Hoops tournament looks like a good, competitive affair, with Hampden-Sydney (18-8) hosting Shenandoah (9-16) on Friday afternoon, followed by a game on Saturday against either Albright (19-9, finished 2nd to Widener in the MAC Commonwealth Conference last year), or New Jersey City (20-9, finished 2nd in the NJAC to William Paterson and won nine of its last 10 games).
