On the clock? You performed well under pressure  ;) The Peaceful Folks size may be a significant probelm for the ODAC this year.

Less than 2 weeks to practice ;D!
Thanks - just like all the college papers I wrote with no time to spare!  lol  I saw Coach Palombo at the football game last Saturday, but didn't get much information.  I know all of last season's regulars are back plus newcomers such as Justin Strickland (2400 or so points at East Davidson, NC HS).  I asked him about Brandon Johnson (Bassett, VA HS) since I didn't see him on the football roster this fall.  Tom said Brandon hurt his leg in preseason football practice and hopes to be healthy by basketball season.

Can any posters update me on the H-SC b'ball team. Any new kids on the team that can help? Any size ? What are the prospects in general for the coming year w/i the ODAC. Obviously VWC will be the odds on favorite to win the conference, but what teams are expected to challenge, if any ?

tigerfanalso .... At the risk of being accused of "unmitigated boosterism" or something of the sort ...  ;) ... I will tell you that the Tigers have all the cards in place for an excellent year.  They bring back their top 6 scoring players from last year in Kaase, Prehmus, Edwards, Green, Murray, and Forrester.  I assume that Kaase (17.4ppg), Prehmus (12.0ppg), Edwards (10.7ppg), and Green (7.7ppg) will start.  Aaron Lewek's position will be filled by Jyri Laakso or one of the freshman big men who have joined the team.  The Tigers have a great recruiting class, they've been hard at work since their return to campus, and the attitude and spirit of the team are great.  There are some true leaders on the team, including the 2006-2007 Hampden-Sydney student body president.  They will definitely challenge the Marlins.

Algernon: Thanks for your update. I spoke with a friend last nite and he indicated the Tigers have a 6'9'' D1 transfer, a 6'8'' freshman and a 6'7'' freshman... all of them evidently can play. Maybe they can give VWC a run and finally BEAT MACON. Time will tell.

Algernon,
You are teetering on the brink of mindless boosterism sliding into repetitive mindless boosterism.   :D

So, does everyone agree that it's going to be a dogfight right through the ODAC tournament  ;Dinto the NCAA's for the Tigers of Hampden-Sydney College and the Marlins of Virginia Wesleyan College? ;D

Not completely.  The Quakers certainly won't be favored to win the ODAC this season, but I bet they'll help decide who does.  I see a strong team in Greensboro this winter ... :)

You mean Greensboro College ;).  I am looking forward to the Guilford-Greensboro Game.  I have seen them all play pick-up at our student center.  They have some quality players this year.  (Some of the ones on the team last year aren't going to try out, because of that.)  Greensboro has 22 people trying out  :o

Plus Greensboro has some games at the Bridgewater Classic.  I am not familar with Bridgewater or Eastern Mennnite on the Men's side.  How do they fair in the ODAC.

Well, I meant Guilford, but Greensboro had some quality wins last season.  :)  Hopefully, the Quakers can take the Pride at the Coliseum again this year.  I think you'll find that 20-22 players is not unusual for a lot of DIII men's programs.  I see a lot of rosters at 18-20 even after a few get injured in drills, decide they can't take the time commitments or realize how far down the depth chart they're going to be.  I'm not sure who they've recruited for this fall, but Eastern Mennonite and Bridgewater were both down some last season.  I think most folks who know the league well expect them to finish in the bottom five (out of 10) in 2006-07.

ok thanks nova

22 is a lot for Greensboro.  We only had 15 on the roster last season. (The girls only had 11, and they won the conference  ;))

Sometimes you can have too many.  The Guilford women had a 20 win season a few years ago with just eight, but they had to recruit football players and other athletes so they could scrimmage 5 on 5.  You want to have enough to spell winded players and cover for injuries, but if players sit on the bench too much it can be like Steinbeck's title: "The Winter of Our Discontent."  :)  I've seen it happen more than once.

Steely,

Once you hit 'quote' you can then delete anything you don't want in the quotation - just be careful NOT to delete the stuff at the beginning and end that are within brackets).

Even this Carolina fan loves the way NCSU has put a whippin' on FSU. Isn't that 3 in a row? In other ACC action - keep your eye on the Deacs - they've beat Clemson the last 2 times in Winston.
