hey all,, yes i am back.. its time to get back into the mode of ODAC BBALL...this is the best time of year, one which i wouldnt trade for anything!!!!! you know i am going to back emu again. its a must... with that said, they are extremely young again this year... no whiting, no lentz, no gordon, no arrington..... But they do have SAGER and that means a lot. along with him Parkes should do well. I look for LeRoger Parish to step up and play well this year, along with Jared Lyons pg. from St. Johns Prospect Hall....
New faces include
Xavier Chambliss G Fr. 6-0 190 Forsyth, Ga. Mary Pearsons
Yanni El' De Jesus F Fr. 6-4 205 Caguas, Puerto Rico Salem
Montez Hagans G Fr. 5-10 165 Georgetown, Del. Sussex Central
Jesse Maghan G/F Fr. 6-4 200 Stafford, Va. Colonial Forge
John Overstreet G/F Fr. 6-4 190 Forsyth, Ga. Mary Pearsons
Jason Rutschman G Fr. 6-0 155 Troutville, Va. Lord Botetourt
Austin Twine G Fr. 6-0 175 Dublin, Va. Pulaski County [/i] This is a very talented and athletic freshman class, probably EMU's best recruiting class since Dean has been there. they are young but can play...these kids are great kids as well, not only can they play the game, they will buy into coach dean's message and be kids with integrity....Standout freshman thus far seem to be Yanni El' and John Overstreet. Both of those kids could see playing time right off the bat..i guess it will depend to gets the system the quickest with the others.. i am excited and can't wait to toss it up and see what happens...

Stillfamily - I see where Chambliss and Overstreet are from the same school in Forsyth GA. What's the connection? I think everyone is expecting Parkes to have a breakout year, aren't they?

If you make every game a life and death proposition, you're going to have problems. For one thing, you'll be dead a lot. Dean Smith

No Whiting, no Lentz, no Gordon?  Why not?

I abjectly aplogize  ;)

Aploging is good, and abject aploging is even better--I think.  :)

Actually, I think it was abject aplogizing, which is the best.  :)

Guilford's preseason roster has 10 returning lettermen and 16 freshmen.  All the key 2005-06 players with significant minutes are back (Strong, Kimbrough, Snipes, Burge, Neville, Belkoski, Wells, Edmond, Payne, Stanley).  It's interesting to note that Strong is now listed as 6'11"  - I hope that really means he has grown another inch!  :)  In addition to heavily recruited Justin Strickland, watch for 6'10"/255 lb Center Tyler Sanborn.  He was highly touted with some significant point, rebound/block production at Elkin, NC HS, but I'm taking that with a grain of salt for now because Elkin is in the lowest NC HS 1A classification.  I've never seen him play, but my guess would be that he's rarely faced a 1A team with much height - maybe one guy per team at 6'4" to 6'6", if that.

Gentlemen - I fell off the roof, my wrists are encased in plaster and I have been typing with my elbows. Such, are the lengths I go to; to contribute to this fine forum. Yet,  I am the object of derision for my fumbling efforts to appear coherent. Where is the hunmanity of my fellow posters?

OUTSTANDING comeback - +k! ;) ;D

Mr. Ypsi

BTW, both my arms were amputated in a bizarre weed-whacker incident, and I had to type that with my nose - just in case anyone wanted to award sympathy karma!

Oh well, I think I just lost about 5! ;D

After returning from a day of pillaging with my fellow Huns, I find it helps me relax with a little D3hoops banter.  It helps keep me sharp for the give and take that passes for guy talk among us Huns during the raids.   ;D

Here's my take on the Guilford team.

Freshman Tyler Sanborn is a true post big man, and will be likely to add needed depth up front.  Nice rebounding and defense.  He'll need to adjust to the speed of the college game, and to guards that might deliver the ball to him at any time.

Freshman Justin Strickland is a true shooting guard.  He's a threat to score from anywhere.  (Ok, maybe not a Snipes-ian anywhere).  He might need to adjust to adjust to the college speed also, and the defensive load.

I don't know the other Freshmen.  Some of them sound good.  There are a lot of guards!

Thomas Burge, Jordan Snipes, Caleb Kimbrough, and Ben Strong all looked in shape, strong and quick.  These guys are continuing to improve.

I'm pretty sure that Eric Belkoski will bring his huge heart and continue to play at roughly 1.5 times his size.

I'm especially glad that Ray Edmond, Barry Wells, Josh Payne, George Neville and Matt Stanley are returning.  I think this whole crew will blossom this year.  Fine potential in this group.

Jordan Costin didn't return, not sure why.

There's more that could be said on all of the above, but I'll leave it at that.

I think Guilford is a threat to reach #3 or #2 in the ODAC this year.  #1 is a tough nut to crack as you know, but we're sure going to try.   ;D

Thanks for the update BBallFan1.  Always good to have another Guilfordian on board.  Go Quakers!
