Looking forward to listening to the Emory and Henry game tonight against Mount Union up in Wooster.  A lot of people hear the name Mount Union and are immediately frightened.  But fear not my ODAC posters, this Mount Union team is on the hardwood, and they better bring a lot of ammo to keep up with the high flying Wasps tonight.  There has not been this much excitement over basketball season since Justin Call was here...heck I dont think it has ever been this exciting.  I dont like to look ahead but the prospects of a Wooster-Emory game just seems awesome.  The Scots thoroughly dismantled the Wasps early last year, but the Wasps are a much different team this time around.  They return something like 14 letter winners, and all of the scoring from last year.  The Scots seemingly have lost their 4 year starting PG, and I dont know how that effects them against a pressing team, but hopefully we wil find out.

Dont know much about Mount Union, but hopefully we can take it to them and make a statement to the northern region today.  Can't wait.  GO WASPS...

That national consolation game in 2003 between Wooster and Hampden-Sydney on Saturday afternoon was an exciting one.  Andy Jackson had the game of his career and the Tigers almost pulled out the win.  The Scots never let down and won by 4 points.
Yeah, that was a good one.  I thought both teams played extremely hard considering the circumstances.  I can't imagine how hard it would be to have to get ready to play that game, but both teams played as if they were playing for the national championship that afternoon.

Wooster and H-SC also had a pretty good matchup back in the 98-99 season when they met at H-SC in the round of 16 I believe.  Wooster had arguably it's best frontcourt ever that season and I remember thinking what a shame it was that those 2 teams had to meet in the round of 16 instead of in Salem.

ODACfan, you are correct about not really having to fear the mighty Mount on the hardwood.  While the OAC is every bit as good of a basketball conference as they are a football conference, MUC is not the feared opponent on the hardwood as they are on the gridiron.  I believe that MUC is picked 2nd to last in the OAC this year so I'm guessing they aren't too strong.

While E&H may very well have all of their scoring returning from last year's team that dropped a 150-101 decision to the Scots, Wooster returns all of it's scoring except for Kyle Witucky (the 4 year starting PG).  While the loss of Witucky hurts because of his leadership on the floor, he was only 6th on the team in scoring and Wooster returns 8 of their top 9 scorers from last year's squad including their top 5 scorers.  In addition, sophomore Brandon Johnson who was the NCAC Newcomer of the Year last season should transition quite nicely to fill the role of PG.  He was Witucky's backup last year, and while Witucky will definately be missed, I think that we might find that Johnson could become an even better player than Witucky was.  Needless to say, I don't think the loss of Witucky will be felt that much in a potential rematch with Wooter and E&H.  At least not enough to make up for the 49 point beat-down the Scots put on E&H last season.  Especially when you consider that Witucky only contributed 2 whole points in that contest.

Turner King, from Roanoke Catholic, hit all 4 of his first 4 three-pointers for HSC .... early in the game tonight.  A great start to his college career.

Tigers are not doing very well against Roberts Wesleyan and are losing by 8 points with about 10 minutes to go.  King has 19 points.

Tigers remained down by about 10 points with only 3-4 minutes to go, but made a huge comeback to tie the game at 83-83 with 1:23 to go.  They finally win the game, 87-85.  Whew ...... !

Tigers were seriously outrebounded by Roberts Wesleyan and gave up a lot of layups, but had 9 steals in the game.

Turner King was 6 of 7 from behind the arc and ended up with 22 points -- that's the best first-game outing for a Hampden-Sydney freshman since ........ well, I really can't remember a freshman first-game outings as good, not even from Grimes, Fox, or Randall, who all started as freshmen.

Troy Kaase had 19 points and 9 rebounds.  Drew Prehmus had 10+ points, but not sure exactly how many.  Matt Green had 12 points, 4 assists.  Kittrell had 7 points in 14 minutes, and was saddled with foul trouble.

yea emu won against a team that wouldnt win an ODAC game....not bad but great by any means.....i was impressed with the freshman players on the squad....they play hard but don't realize yet that they must do everything hard to give them a chance.. they will be tested against svu tonight... starting pt. guard jared lyons will be back in the lineup for the royals tonight, he didnt play last night....if svu gets hot from outside it will be a tough night....lets go royals lets start off 2-0 by playing tenacious defense !!!!! go royals

Looks like my pick of the Hornets coming through paid off. People slept on the young Hornets, and LC delivered with a nice comeback win over Westminster. Expect big things from the young guard Echols, he can light it up. Also, nice to see Drew Norris shooting the ball well and Kwame Safo dishing for eight assists. I'm curious to see how the HSC plays the Titans today, so I guess we'll see. What happened to EHC, thought people picking against them was unbelievable. :)
