marlins 84- monarchs 49 - adair is a beast, ton ton is the real deal, vwc is incredibly athletic, and they obviously took out a little post-texas aggression on the monarchs...wow

Yeah, wow all right.  Take some consolation, this is the toughest week you'll probably see for a while.

Shucks, I was hoping the Marlins wouldn't find their game for a few weeks yet...

A special  thanks to the SID at Virginia Weslyan.  He does an outstanding job at the VWC website.  He is always accurate and timely and keeps the website up to date.  SID's have a terribly difficult job in Division lll and deserve all the credit in the world for all the they do almost singlehandedly.  My hats go off to all of them, but the SID from VWC gets my vote for making the readers feel like they were actually at the game.  So many people look forward to what they write night after night, handling many sports at once.  Thanks for all you do for VWC. , and to all the SID's in the ODAC.  We forget to give you credit and you are all most deserving.  Great write up of this afternoons game.  Looks like Adair had a great game..shooting 80% for the day  (12-15)  25 points. and many many Marlins  scoring.

Final from Danville:  Guilford 74, Averett 69.  The Quakers move to 9-0 and the 12th ranked Cougars fall to 9-1.  It was a back and forth affair that was an exciting game throughout.

Are the Quakers pushing the Top 25 with this win?  Nice road win for sure against a very good Averett team.  Whew!

Sorry I've been away for a while.  Trying to get rid of a nice case of lung chum, as well as a holiday season that channeled Clark Griswold. ;D

Congrats to the Quakes!!  This one oughta get 'em in the Top 25.

I'm going to be listening to the Guilford/Randolph-Macon game online, as well as the Quakes/Marlins showdown.  FTF is right.  Good year for the ODAC, and DIII basketball.  Should be a wild one.

Hey jacketlawyer.  Good to see you back.  Hope you're starting to feel better.  I've had those Clark W. Griswold vacations myself.  lol  At least I don't have a Cousin Eddie like Randy Quaid's character dropping by.  :)  Thanks for your congratulations on the recent success by the Quakers.  I'll also be listening to both games.  Wish I could be there!  Boy, VWC put a hurting on Methodist today and that's scary when you think how the Monarchs played both Guilford and RMC.  We'll see ....  but I'm definitely looking forward to this season's games.  :)

I told you Adair would be tough tonight.  Also, Stephen Fields!  Anyone noticing how this freshman is consistently helping the Marlins.  20 points here, game winning shot here, 15 points here, 8 there.  Looks like the Marlins have some future at the guard spot.  This kid is very very good!

Yeah, they were definitely clicking on all cylinders today.  It's also good to see ODAC teams get new talent every year to keep the ball rolling.  Today's victory was certainly a statement for the Marlins and, by association, the ODAC.  Congratulations!

Yeah, VWC is tormenting teams like Clark torments Todd and Margo. . . "Hey Griswold, where you gonna put a [score] that big?

I have been trying to forget the Methodist/Randolph-Macon score. ;D  It was last year, right?  RIGHT?

You're making me laugh just talking about Christmas Vacation - one of my favorite movies.   :)  I used to show it to my boys every holiday and we would laugh 'til it hurt even though we'd seen it 20 times.  lol

Regarding Todd Chester's question to Clark, "Hey Griswold, where you gonna put a tree [score] that big?," he replied, "Bend over and I'll show you!"  Something tells me VWC is poised to do more of the same!  :)

Since it's now 2007, you are officially allowed to forget all losses in 2006!  Feel better now?  :)

I guess you'll forgive me if I root for the Quakers to come through over your Jackets, but other than that I hope RMC has a solid season.  See you on Jan. 27 in Greensboro.  Peace

I guess the Marlins "couldn't be any hooter, er hotter" than they are right now.

I know this joke will be old soon, but felt obligated to drag it out a bit more. ;)

Too many Lions and Tigers and Bears!   Before looking at the attached website, how many schools can you identify (many DIII) with the following nicknames?  Most are unique and used by only that school.

Anteaters, Banana Slugs, Chanticleers, Delta Devils, Ephs, Flying Fleet, Gentlemen, Horned Frogs, Ichabods, Judges, Jumbos, Keelhaulers, Little Giants, Maccabees, Nads (dare we cheer Go Nads! lol), Oaks, Poets, Paladins, Quakers (only mascot with Q, but there are four (site only mentions three) - three in DIII and one of them is in the ODAC), Railsplitters, Raptors, Saxons, Squirrels (also Squirrel Girls), Tartans, Utes, Violets, White Mules, Wonder Boys (one of my favorites), X - none of which I'm aware, so we'll do it in reverse - what are the mascots of Xavier (New Orleans) and Xavier (Cincinnati)?, Yeomen, Zias and Zips.

There are also two schools that use 49ers - one in CA and one in NC (hint Hwy 49 dissects the campus).

There are many schools with no nickname.  Can you name the one in the ODAC?

Enjoy!

Just off the top of my head I can think of 3 D3 Quakers: Earlham, Wilmington, and Guilford.

Hey, David.  I agree with you.  The site only mentioned three, but I make no claims to its accuracy and timeliness.  :)  Also, the DI school is Ivy league member Penn.

Might the University of Pennsylvania be the fourth Quaker? (Of course, many teams, when facing a far-better opponent do "quake" a bit, don't they?)

BTW I think Rutgers (main campus) were once known as the "Chanticleers." And isn't a chanticleer a kind of rooster?

Yes, Ivy League member Penn's nickname is Quakers.  Rutgers is now the Scarlet Knights, so I guess the author of the site didn't delve into historical names.  If he did that, it would take a page just for Auburn.  lol  Yes, Chanticleers is a type of fighting rooster.  Coastal Carolina University is a branch of the University of South Carolina system and the main campus in Columbia (my graduate school alma mater, by the way) is known, of course, as the Gamecocks - another fighting rooster!  USC's mascot is affectionately known, as every true Gamecock fan knows, as Cocky!

Glenn Campbell also spoke/sang the part of the Elvis-style singing rooster Chanticleer in the animated movie Rock-A-Doodle, but that's TMI (too much information).  :)

How about Whittier (Nixon's alma mater), and Swarthmore for additional D3 Quaker schools.
