DoooH!
Hasanova,
Should have read your prior post to see that you were not looking for Quaker schools but crazy nick names.

BTW Pat , (probably old news by now)
I love the new spell checker... only problem is what will we do when we run out of legitimate comebacks?

Just off the top of my head I can think of 3 D3 Quakers: Earlham, Wilmington, and Guilford.

Might the University of Pennsylvania be the fourth Quaker? (Of course, many teams, when facing a far-better opponent do "quake" a bit, don't they?)

How about Whittier (Nixon's alma mater), and Swarthmore for additional D3 Quaker schools.
Actually, Whittier is one of the schools listed in my A to Z list.  They are a Quaker school, but their Poets nickname honors Whittier.  Swarthmore is also a Quaker college, but they're the Garnet.

No problem.  After a while, I stopped including the first post to make things more abbreviated.  Not sure how many Quaker colleges there are (I've looked it up before), but it's probably only fifteen or so.  Other than Earlham, Wilmington, Guilford, Whittier and Swarthmore, I can also think of George Fox and Haverford off the top of my head.  I just did a quick search and found these (some I knew and some I didn't):

Barclay College, Bryn Mawr, Cornell University, Earlham College, Earlham School of Religion, Friends Theological College (Kaimosi, Kenya), Friends University, Friends World Program (formerly Friends World College), George Fox University, Guilford College, Haverford College, Houston Graduate School of Theology, Johns Hopkins University,
Malone College, Swarthmore College, Whittier College, William Penn University and Wilmington College.

Just something interesting:  According to the NCAA website, there were 10 undefeated DIII men's teams as of Dec. 31.  Three (#22 UT-Dallas, # 11 Averett and unranked Rutgers-Newark - 23 poll points) lost this week.  A fourth, Westfield State of Massachusetts, only showed their record as 3-0, but they're actually now 8-2.  So, by my unofficial count through yesterday's scores, that leaves six:

Whitworth 11-0  ranked #6 this week with 469 points
St. Lawrence 9-0 unranked this week and looks like 0 points for Top 25
NYU 10-0 ranked #20 this week with 142 points
Amherst 10-0 ranked #3 this week with 593 points
Guilford 9-0 unranked this week, but 34 points for 28th spot
Bates 8-0 ranked #15 this week with 226 points

Thank you, David.  I didn't mean to be redundant.  I wasn't aware that room existed.  :)

I see the ODAC finishing as follows:
VWC
Guilford                    Thoughts from other posters.
RMC
HSC
Bridgewater
EMC
W&L
E&H
Lynchburg
Roanoke

For me, the final standings are somewhat hard to predict.  Until beaten, I think everyone assumes VWC will repeat.  Guilford is off to a great start and this week will speak volumes about their potential.  After that, I'm not sure.  Some things I'm considering are comparative scores (albeit limited so far), injuries (such as Kaase and King at HSC) and the more maturity gained by players who've now been around a few years (think W&L).  The only one that really definitely felt out of place to me was E&H.  I just have a gut feeling they're going to be a lot better than #8.  Others ....?

BballFan1

Well, I think E&H and W&L are higher.
Also, Guilford should go higher.   :o

Guilford is 1/3 through a tough road stretch this week.  I pick the weekend play like this:
Guilford maybe favored at RMC - Guilford
Guilford total underdogs at VWC - Guilford

I'm picking G every game.  You might say I'm crazy, but its worked great so far!

RMC should swap spots with E&H or W&L. Kaase is an outstanding player. If his season is over I believe HSC will struggle. B'water & EMC may or may not be ahead of Lynchburg; but are probably all in the bottom 4.VW & GC are currently the 2 favorites

if vwc plays like they did against methodist on wednesday, they are the hands down favorite in the odac - they do too many things well...they've got spectacular athletes, great shooters and they can destroy teams with their press - i think guilford is a very good team, but i just don't think they are athletic enough to compete with vwc...they (gcq) struggled with the monarchs athleticism, and vwc made mu look slow and un-athletic - i could honestly see vwc getting on another roll and winning a lot of games - i think the texas trip was a bit of a wake-up call for them, and the monarchs were just the first victim

of course, i could be dead wrong...maybe mu played their absolute best against guilford and their absolute worst against vwc  ???

Good morning, narch.  As you know, I was at the GCQ/MU game in Fayetteville and that's the only time I've seen the Monarchs play.  MU was shooting the lights out, especially in the 2nd half, so I have to wonder if that's sustainable.  At least two Monarchs had four 3-pointers in the 2nd half and Radmonic was about 20 over his average.  Which Guilford team is going to show up - the one that jumped out to a 30-13 lead or the one which gave up 49 points in the 2nd half?  I'll have to tell you, seeing that 84-49 VWC over MU score was a surprise to me.  I guess we'll see where Guilford stands by about 4 pm tomorrow afternoon!  Good luck to your boys as well.  Peace

Nice front page (sports section) article and photo (Strong shooting over (Camp) about both Guilford and Greensboro's good starts to the 2006-07 men's basketball season in today's Greensboro News & Record.  I tried to link it, but they haven't yet updated their website for January 6.  When they do, I will.  There's a lot of buzz on Guilford's campus, so I would expect a nice crowd next Saturday when the Wasps come to town.  Good luck to the Quakers and Pride this weekend!

Guilford leads RMC at the half 35-32.  Strong with 23!
