VWC doing to ODAC b'ball what Bridgewater has done to ODAC f'ball. We'll have to wait for the NCAA tourny to pull for VWC !!!!

With all due respect B'water didn't bring home the bacon this past football season  -The Generals did! ;D

Now we hope the Gennies can keep improving in hoops as well.

BTW - Sludge; if the Gennies are an underdog tomorrow, it isn't by much. Thanks for joining the believers. That's progress right there. Nobody else ever picks the Gennies on the road besides me.

Quakers beat "the System" today, 130-114, in front of a good crowd (879) in Greensboro.  Nice to see so many E&H fans on hand as well.  Weather was a beautiful 68 or so at game time, but the Quakers - and the Wasps - attracted a nice crowd.

Pretty much what you'd expect - racehorse basketball with E&H holding a couple of early 7-point leads.  Guilford broke a 33 all tie at the 8:13 mark and, by my unofficial notes, scored about 12-14 unanswered points and then never trailed.  GC held a 66-47 halftime lead, but E&H went on a couple of 3-pointer binges in the second half and cut it to 6 a couple of times including 109-103 with about 4:50 to go.  Quakers were pretty solid from the FT line (40-49) and E&H started missing some threes down the stretch to create the final 16-point margin.

Strategically, the boxscore says Guilford missed three 3-pointers, but I didn't remember them in the flow of the game - I believe they were just alley oop plays gone awry that had to be recorded as missed 3-point attempts.   I only saw 11 Quakers get minutes.    E&H was 21 of 73 from behind the arc.  As usual, the Wasps substituted in 5-man waves.

Jordan Snipes led Guilford with a career high 41.  Ben Strong (26/19 rebounds), Eric Belkoski (15) and Thomas Burge (14) also scored in double figures.  It was nearly impossible to track everyone's scoring from the stands, but I'm sure Camillo Weinz and Andrew Hart both got at least 20 for E&H.  I also had Lance Reasbeck with five 3-pointers.

Should be very interesting when GC (11-1, 5-1) visits E&H (7-5, 3-3)!  If a couple of ranked teams faltered this week - especially those in the lower third or so - I think the Quakers may crack the Top 25 early next week.   :)  Peace

tigerfanalso .... I'm not sure what you're talking about, that no one's interested in the HSC/RMC game.  Even though HSC is still in the mid-semester break period, there were very few empty seats at the Macon game today.

As usual, RMC controlled access so that it was very hard for Tiger fans to get a seat there.  Very, very few seats allowed to HSC fans.

The report on the game is at http://www2.hsc.edu/athletics/basketball/2006_07/game_releases/rmc1.html

The key line from the article is this:  "With only 12 seconds remaining, Hampden-Sydney had the ball, while only trailing by one point, 60-59.  The Tigers' Mike Edwards drove to the basket and threw up a shot that barely rolled off the side of the rim and allowed Randolph-Macon to escape with the victory, 60-59."

Edwards' shot went up with only 5-6 seconds left on the clock.  By the time it left the rim, there were only 3-4 seconds left.  Everyone in the house was holding their breath.  Had it gone in, the Yellow Jackets would have been down by 1 point, bringing in the ball from the far end of the court with only 3 seconds left.

The Tigers might have won it today, but they were playing on the Yellow Jackets' court and are still in a period of adjusting to the loss of their All-ODAC First-Teamer.  I suspect that the outcome will be different when the 2 teams play at HSC in a few weeks.

Guilford is the only team with a remote chance of staying within 10 points of VWC and thats on a good nite.

Maybe you forget ..... Even though the Tigers didn't give the Marlins much of a game, it was a closer contest than the game between the Quakers and the Marlins.  (The Quakers closed the gap from 39 points to 20 points during the latter part of the second half and it was an extremely lopsided game.)

There is no doubt that the Quakers could win the next one .... and no doubt that another team could beat the Marlins.  Remember Lynchburg's win over Randolph-Macon in the 2004 quarterfinals?

It may be a race for 2nd place in the ODAC this year but it's a good one .... and there are a number of fans out there who can imagine Virginia Wesleyan getting beat again.  Remember the Marlins' loss to Averett and their loss to a team in Texas?  Neither of the teams that beat the Marlins is currently in the Top 25.  So the Marlins may finish with a 16-2, 17-1, or 18-0 ODAC record at the end of the regular season, but that doesn't mean that they'll win the tournament.  The HSC Tigers had an overall record of 26-0 in 2000 when they went up against the Roanoke Maroons in the ODAC Championship game.

Thanks for the great summary, hasanova.  I think Jordan Snipes had 41 for Guilford, which I think is a career high.

I think Eric Belkoski's 19 might also be a career high.

Fine work, Quakers!

You're welcome.  You were right, Snipes had 41 and Burge had 14 instead of 12.  Unfortunately, I incorrectly credited both those baskets to Belkoski, so he only has 15 and not 19.  His 17 versus Methodist is still his career high.  Thanks for the corrections which I reflected by modifying my earlier post.  Good win by the Quakers against a very dangerous team!

You drunk. The Marlins smacked up Hampden-Sydney AT HSC and they blew out Guilford at home. They smacked Lynchburg up. They haven't had a close ODAC game yet this season. HSC and Guilford might play them close the 2nd time around, but with the way that the Marlins are playing, when they get on, when Brandon starts dominating inside, TonTon is hitting from outside, Fantin is on and Fields comes from off the bench and is hitting, no one is beating the Marlins, and every ODAC game this has happened. I don't see the Marlins losing an ODAC game this season.

DeWayneCarter

They're winning the ODAC tournament too. Mark my words.

Looks like another lopsided victory for the Marlins on someone else's homecourt.  Now, I just hope that they don't get the "im better than you" swagger b/c they have whooped (seriously) some ODAC tail.  Because I now as well as anyone else that there is a huge target on their backs not only from last year but from this year and RMC, HSC, Guilford etc. are still pretty good.

If they marlins drop a game, in my opinion, it will only happen on the E&H / Guilford road trip.  Otherwise, might be a loooong season for opponents.

DeWayne,

Don't put up some bulletin board stuff.  You may make some pre-game speeches pretty easy...

Too late.  DeWayne's comments are already duly noted.  :)

I understand the R-MC H-SC game is a sellout! Who says "nobody cares."

I will never stop caring about this game.  Not ever.
