Congratulations to  Guilford for breaking into the top 25 poll.  They enter at #20.  Well done!  The Marlins move up to #5. WTG!!! With over 400 teams in Divisionlll I  think the ODAC is well represented.

Cool, I think its a DIII first-ever for Guilford men, I'm not sure.  (NAIA was another story entirely!)
The guys have worked really hard.  I hope they keep eyes on the ball and don't get distracted (except by schoolwork, maybe).

Very cool!  Thanks for tipping me off - I was hopeful and was going to look tomorrow morning.  Congratulations also to the Marlins for moving back into the Top 5.  From what I've seen, they deserve it!  I do believe this is GC's first time being ranked in DIII.  Lots of times years ago in NAIA basketball and currently all the time in golf, but never in DIII men's hoops.  Way to go, guys!  :)

Kasse is gone for the year. Tore his ACL. Has already had surgery. Saw him across the way this past weekend at the RMC game, sitting in a wheel chair watching the game. Tough for him and for the Tigers. Kasse is the real deal plus was the team leader and quite a young man. He'll be missed for sure.

Unfortunate and saddening.  He's got my best wishes for a speedy recovery.

My thoughts exactly.  Troy Kaase is not only a fine player, but a good leader and role model for the Tigers.  Troy, hope you make a great recovery and are ready for next season!

My Tigers play Lynchburg tomorrow nite at HSC. I haven't had the opportunity to see Lynchburg play although I know they have improved. How should that game play out assuming both teams play their normal game?

Congratulations to the Quakers on their most recent ranking. Well done and certainly earned !! Hopefully the ODAC will have two schools in the NCAA assuming both VWC and Guilford continue their fine play and nothing unusual happens at the ODAC tourney

I saw LC play once and lose against Guilford, 102-80.  The Hornets have some good outside shooters and are great from the FT line, but they did not box out well that game.  The Quakers killed them on the boards and with second chance baskets.  Looks like they're still shooting FT's well (I think they lead the ODAC and were perfect one game this year with over 20 attempts).  Based on some of their recent success, it would seem they're also boxing out better now under the boards.

Thanks for your good words on the Quakers.  They've been a fun team to watch this year.  I hope Guilford can continue to win and live up to a #20 ranking.  It would be nice to see lots of ODAC teams in postseason play, but right now it certainly looks like the Marlins and Quakers have the inside track.  Lots of basketball to be played, however, so the next 5-6 weeks should be very interesting!

There won't be lots of ODAC teams in postseason play.  This is my take:

1) VWC will be playing in the NCAAs, assuming that they win 8 more of their remaining 11 regular season games.  Their record is 12-2.  Even if they go 20-5 during the regular season and lose the ODAC quarterfinals, they will be in the NCAAs.  Maybe not, but I think that their chance of being in the tournament is 95%+

2) Guilford has a good shot at a tournament berth, even if they don't make it to the ODAC championship game.  With a 11-1 record, they probably need to win 8 of their final 12 regular season games and then their ODAC quarterfinal game.

3) The rest of the ODAC teams have a shot at the NCAA tournament, as they each have a shot at winning the ODAC tournament and getting the AQ.

4) Short of winning the ODAC tournament, any of the other ODAC teams need to go on an extended winning streak.  Let's say that HSC, 8-5 overall and 3-3 in the ODAC, wins 11 of their final 12 regular season games, losing only to VWC.  They finish the regular season with a 19-6 overall record, 15-3 in the ODAC, and are seeded 2nd or 3rd in the ODAC tournament.  They win the first two games of the tournament and lose in a fairly close game to VWC in the ODAC championship game.  At that point, they've got a 21-7 record, with 3 of 7 losses to the defending national champion and they've maybe defeated Guilford twice.  In that case, I  think that they've got a shot at a Pool C bid.  The same method of getting into the NCAAs is out there for any of the other ODAC teams that have no more than 5-6 losses at present:  Go on a long winning streak, maybe defeat VWC during the regular season and win them all, and then go as far as the ODAC championship game.  Imagining this sort of thing is a real stretch, but the games haven't yet been played, and it will be interesting to see whether any other team is able to light it up!

algernon - Yeah, I know - just trying to be diplomatic.  As you said, it will be awfully hard for many teams in the ODAC to make the NCAA postseason unless they win the tournament.

Guilford's certainly in a good position right now, but I remember that Hampden-Sydney was 11-0 after their first 11 games last year.  They had a 5-0 ODAC record, with a win over Virginia Wesleyan at the beach.

Unfortunately, they lost 6 of their next 8 games and finished the regular season with a 17-7 record.  After winning their quarterfinal game, they took Randolph-Macon to OT in the semifinal.  If they had won that game, it's conceivable that they might have gained a Pool C bid even if they had lost a close one to Virginia Wesleyan in the ODAC championship game, but a 19-8 record probably wouldn't have been good enough to make it.

Randolph-Macon got into the tournament as a Pool C with a 21-7 record.

Marlins crush EMU tonight 85-56, I think that was the score.  No details as the box isn't up yet.

EMU does live stats for the game.  Check their site, they may still have the end of the game still posted.

Bridgewater lost to R-MC, 64-63.  Trawick had a shot at the buzzer, but it rattled out.
