The Tigers slaughter the Hornets with a balanced attack ... 90-63.  Outrebound the Hornets by 20 rebounds.

And here's a winner that no one picked ..... Roanoke.  The Maroons extend their winning streak, defeating the Quakers, 72-68.  6 in a row for the Maroons ... and they play Lynchburg and HSC this coming weekend.

Another productive night for two of the top Freshman in the league tonight.

Echols (Lynchburg) had 18pts, 1 assist, and 3 TOs against HSC.
Trawick (Bridgewater) had 23pts, 1 assist, 1 TO, and 2 steals against RMC.

Who do you guys think will end up getting FOY in the ODAC this season?

Those guys are pretty good, but so is Stephen Fields from VWC and he is playing a team where he isn't suppose to be a scorer....YET!!!

On another note:  Junior Ton Ton Balenga scores his 1,000 career point vs. EMU becoming the 20th marlin to do so.  Congrats to Ton Ton...there are many more points to come from him.

Adair led the Marlins with 24 points.

Turner King (HSC).  He had 17 points and 6 rebounds against Lynchburg tonight, hitting 3 of 4 from behind the arc.

Consider King's stats for the year .... He's averaging 13.3 points, 3.9 rebounds, 2.4 assists, 1.7 TOs, and 1.0 steals.  He's hit 20 of 38 from behind the arc (52.6%).  Neither of the two freshmen you mention shares the scoring with as many teammates; King has 5 teammates who average in double figures (Prehmus, Green, Edwards, Murray, and Kaase).

There are now 6 teams in the middle of the ODAC with a record ranging from 4-3 to 3-4 ......  I've never seen such a tight race within the middle of the ODAC.

And Guilford's record of 5-2 is only 2 wins better than the 3-4 records of Roanoke, Emory & Henry, and Lynchburg, who are tied for 6th place.

Bridgewater (1-5) is just a few points away from a 5-1 ODAC record.  They've lost 4 games by 7 points (W&L), 6 points (LC), 1 point(RMC), and in overtime (HSC).

Interesting season ... and it could be a very unpredictable tournament in February.

Guilford's loss to Roanoke wasn't pretty.  Guilford shot just about as well as Roanoke (42% vxs. 44%).  Neither team shot particularly well overall.  Guilford outrebounded Roanoke and was better from the line.   Both teams were similar on three point percentages.

But ouch!  Guilford turned the ball over alot, and took fewer shots.  That was enough to make the differenece.  There was an uncharacteristic lack of confidence overall.  The guys can get it back though.  Just stick together and play our game.

Maybe Roanoke's big win will bring Jim Loesel back from his three-week vacation.  Here's hoping... :P :-* :)

I watched part of the Roanoke-Guilford game on the local station WDRL.  From what I saw, Roanoke led almost the entire game and had some very timely shots hit by a number of players.  I think AJ Dowell scored over 20 and appeared to be ready to take the big shot.  I wish he were still wearing the Garnet and Grey because Sydney could really use a player like him.

I wish A.J. were a Tiger also.  However, I don't think he'd be playing as much as he does for Roanoke, where he's getting 21-22 minutes a game, because he'd have to compete for playing time with Prehmus, Edwards, and King at the shooting guard position.  Their current stats as a group are quite impressive:

Prehmus (JR)   13.8 points, 5.7 rebounds, 2.4 assists
Edwards (SR)  12.1 points, 3.1 rebounds, 2.5 assists
King (FR)         13.3 points, 3.9 rebounds, 1.7 assists

Nevertheless, it'd be great for the Tigers to have more depth, as they did in 2003 when they went to the Final Four.

Wow.  Didn't see this one coming!  Was Guilford flat, or were the Maroons channeling yon teams of olden times?

I didn't see the game, but I listened on the internet.  A J Dowell was hot.  He was 11 of 15 from the floor (4 of 6 from 3-point range) and scored 29.  This from a guy who entered the game averaging 8 ppg.  Congratulations to the Maroons.  For whatever reason, RC seems to be a team that's always had Guilford's "number."  The Quakers will bounce back, but this was a disappointing loss.  Is there some unwritten rule that says you have to lose your next game after you break the Top 20?  Seems like it.   lol  Peace

Bridgewater lost to R-MC, 64-63.  Trawick had a shot at the buzzer, but it rattled out.

That shot goes in next year, Kid.  BC has a lot to look forward to with Trawick.

But I'm glad R-M was able to get the win!! ;)
