I attended my second VWC game of the 06/07 season in Harrisonburg last night and was mightily impressed by four freshman: Stephen Fields, Tony Alexander, Tim Weyant, and TJ Williams. Fields is the whole package and Alexander, Weyant and Williams are solid players who certainly don't look like freshman when they are on the floor. Congratulations to TonTon on becoming the 20th Marlin to achieve the 1000 point milestone. And, what can you say about Brandon Adair: 24 points, solid rebounding, put backs, etc. I'm always impressed whren I watch him play.

Guilford better watch out or the ODAC is going to have only one representative in the NCAA tourney. I think Guilford can afford one more loss in the regular season and will need to get to the final game in the ODAC tourney. That will get them a Pool C; or if they beat VWC at home they may be able to get by with two more losses. As it stands now, Guilford is only one game ahead of several teams and if they need to be seeded opposite VWC in the conference tourney to increase their chance at a Pool C bid.

I agree.

Listened to the Emory-Washington and Lee game last night...Emory came back from about 15 to actually go ahead a few times late in the game.  Apparently Halkitus missed a 3 pointer in the closing seconds in which Hank Lutton had the rebound but lost it to a Washington and Lee player and they eventually scored with 2 seconds left.  Seems like it was a bit of a scramble at that point.  The Wasps seemed to have some momentum and if Lutton doesn't lose that rebound I am positive it would have gone to overtime and the Wasps would have won it.  Tough loss and a tough stretch for the Wasps.  Looking forward to seeing them Saturday.

Algernon,

I agree that Dowell would have more trouble getting in games, but I do believe that he would be an asset as you have acknowledged.  I believe, however, that he may get more time than you think.  I could see AJ playing at the 1 or 2 and possibly the 3 with a small team on the floor.  He could relieve Prehmus, Green, or Edwards.  This would give the Tigers a nice 5 man rotation with Lawton serving as the sixth.  I remember AJ hitting some big shots (especially at the free throw line) his freshmen year at HSC.  I don't think he would be a 10+ point guy at HSC, but he would provide an extra scoring threat as he showed against Guilford.

Also, we have probably disagreed on this before, but I think the 1999 team has more depth than the 2003 squad.  But that is an opinion.

Dowell most definitely would be in the HSC rotation has he stayed. No question in my mind he would get as much PT as any other guard rotating at the #1, #2 and #3 positions. With Dowell HSC would be a much better team. Number of turnovers (which has killed them) would be lower and foul shooting (which has killed them) would be a higher percentage. HSC might not admit it but their team would be better, much better with Dowell in the rotation. Too bad for HSC that the kid transfered.

TJ Williams hasn't played in a game yet this season. You must mean Zac Green, who was the other reserve post player who got in besides Travis Klink and Norman Hassell.

In the 8 conference games played by VWC this season they enjoy a 33.88 point margin of victory.

In the 7 non-conference games played that number is only 8.57.

Assuming I did the math correctly, is that number a reflection on the ODAC or not ? I really don't know but would like opinions from other posters.

DeWayneCarter - I see my mistake. The box score attributes 10 points to Williams but it's Fields who had 10. Fantin had 5. What's the matter with Ari? He wasn't with the team in Harrisonburg.

I have no clue.... he's a good player though, hopefully he'll be back for their next game against Randolph-Macon

Guilford only has 2 losses at present.  If they finish 21-6, with 3 lossses to VWC, including an ODAC championship game loss, they will make the NCAAs.

They may not get past the semifinals, though, as there are so many teams that have the ability to win a quarterfinal and semifinal and make it to the championship game.  HSC could do it.  RMC could do it.  Roanoke could.  Maybe even Bridgewater or W&L.  I think if I were Guilford, I'd want to be seeded #2 or #3 instead of #4, to avoid a semifinal matchup with VWC.

For those who care (all two of you :)) ... the Bridgewater-VMI game will be broadcast tonight, and live stats will be provided:

Who knows, maybe BC can pull off an upset against a Division I team?  Or perhaps they'll lose by 50.

E&H stopped the press & went to a zone with 45 seconds to go. It seemed to unsettle the Generals. It was a great coaching move. The trouble was that when Halkitis missd the 3 with 9 to go the Wasps had no clue on how to box out. It was rebounded and put back up 3 times before it went in. The Generals overcame an early 10 pt. deficit and then withstood the late charge by the Wasps ( as well as some very peculiar officials). We held the Wasps 13 under their average and scored about 28 more than our average. It was a nice win for the Gennies.

Prehmus (JR)   13.8 points, 5.7 rebounds, 2.4 assists
Edwards (SR)  12.1 points, 3.1 rebounds, 2.5 assists
King (FR)         13.3 points, 3.9 rebounds, 1.7 assists

Stephen Fields stats are as follows:   10.1 points, 3.9 rebounds, 1.78 (in 14 games he played)  He is also fighting for playing time on a National Championship team with two pre-season All-Americans and still putting up stats equivalent to some of the other top freshmen in the league.
