Well said Justafan02. I saw him in action on Wednesday and he's the real deal!

sludge - I have tickets to NCSU and Duke in Raleigh tomorrow - my first trip to the RBC Center!  I'm sorry I'll miss Guilford and Bridgewater on Saturday, but I hope to see you on Sunday when EMU comes to Ragan-Brown.  Root twice as hard on Saturday to cover for me!  lol

Stephen Fields stats are as follows:   10.1 points, 3.9 rebounds, 1.78 (in 14 games he played)  He is also fighting for playing time on a National Championship team with two pre-season All-Americans and still putting up stats equivalent to some of the other top freshmen in the league.

These guys .... Fields, King, Echols, and Trawick .... they're all good candidates for FOY.

I think POY is between Strong and Adair.

Algernon - Adair needs 224 points to reach 2000. There are 10 regular season games left and a bunch of post season. I think he'll make it.

My father-in-law will be there with you!

My wife and I will be down in Raleigh in a couple weeks for NCSU-UNC.  If you do to that one, look behind the NCSU bench ... I'm sure I'll be wearing something Bridgewater.

Hey, Matt.  I had to do some wheeling and dealing to get these, so I think this is the only time I'll be at the RBC Center this season.  The person who got the tickets for me works for a group that promotes NCSU sports.  She gets two tickets to every game and was willing to let me have hers this weekend.  Since she's an NC State graduate and her fiance's a UNC alumnus, she told me right up front those were off limits!  lol  I can't blame her at all and I appreciated her generosity for State/Duke tickets!  By the way, I'll look for you on TV in a couple of weeks.  I doubt you'll see me tomorrow, however, since the cameras rarely pan Section 319.  :)  I'm just happy for the chance to go!

If he averages 15 points for another 15 games, that will give him 2001 points.

2000 points is a tremendous accomplishment!  Adair has been outstanding.

These are the top Five Scorers in HSC history:
  Russell Turner (1988-92)    2,272
  Bill Hardin (1960-63)           1,965
  Leon Hawker (1957-60)      1,861
  Ralph Baker (1985-89)        1,780
  T.J. Grimes (1996-2000)      1,740

Here are some interesting comparisons re. Adair and Strong: Strong had 248 points in his freshman year vs. 384 for Adair; 509 in his sophomore year vs. 547 for Adair. Adair had 609 in his junior year and Strong has 321(1078 total career) through the last game. Adair has 243(1776 total career) on the year so far and needs 224 to get to 2000. If Strong stays on pace, he could conceivably have 620+ points in his junior year. That means he could conceivably reach 2000 next year as a senior but that might be a stretch.

First, Adair is a great player!  What coach wouldn't want him on their team?  I'd also thought (and posted) earlier about Ben's chances to reach 2000.   Actually, I think he has a very good shot at it.

Strong was Lawhorn's back-up his freshman year, so he didn't get the number of points (248) - or minutes - a starter would get, but last year and this year would seem to predict what he may do the rest of his college career.  Conservatively, if Strong plays 40 more games at Guilford (assuming 11 more regular season games and two in the ODAC tournament this year plus 25 regular season and two ODAC tournament games next year), he will need to average 23.05 ppg to reach the 2000 point plateau.  Of course, a lot of things can happen (injuries, early/late exits in postseason play, etc), but this seems well within the realm of possibility.

If - and I realize this is a big IF - Ben continues at this year's 24.538 ppg pace for 40 more games, he would have around 2060 points for his career.   Obviously, if his average or the number of postseason games goes up, so will his point total.  Conversely, if his average goes down or the Quakers don't play as many postseason games, his career total will go down.  Personally, I very much look forward to seeing what develops for both Adair and Strong!

I am biased towards Adair.  However, I have liked Strong, and who wouldn't, since I saw him play as a freshmen.  I wonder what the POY ballot will be.  It is pretty obvious that Strong will have more points/average per game, unless Adair takes over every game which will be tough when you have scoreres like Balenga around you.

Will they look at head to head match ups over stats or do we think they will look at just stats or ODAC stats or even team record etc.?

What do the guru's have to say about POY if it was voted on TODAY?

Between Adair & Strong: I'd vote for Adair. Strong at 6'11" has a big advantage in D-3. I just believe it is more difficult for Adair to dominate than Strong.
If you make every game a life and death proposition, you're going to have problems. For one thing, you'll be dead a lot. Dean Smith

VWC hangs on to win 65-60 over Randolph Macon.

Big crowd today on hand for this one...... Adair dropped 16, Balenga had 29, Carlson had 11 but scoring was balanced for R-MC, who made it tough inside for the Marlins........ Norman Hassell came off the bench to score 11 points, including 3 three pointers...... Stephen Fields didn't have much..... didn't play in the 1st half...

I think VWC didn't play their best game but R-MC took it to them. I think VWC's next game will also be a barn-burner as they host Hampden-Sydney on Wednesday.

Both are great players, but I think that Adair is the more impressive.  My thinking's not based upon stats .... it's just based upon watching the two of them play.  I saw Adair lead the Marlins to the National Championship as National Player of the Year last year and he hasn't lost a thing since then.

Any score from the EMU vs E & H game?  No score posted yet.
